There is a category for former schools. I would be amazed if there is a functioning one-room schoolhouse.

Re: What catagory do I slam this big square peg into??
Cool I just found another big question mark. What about a catagory for G.A.R. Grand Army of the Republic? I found 8 Soldiers who all had a G.A.R. star on their graves and a nice sized G.A.R. cannon in the middle. Swizzle

G.A.R graves are very common as it was the largest Union veterans organization after the Civil War. However depending on how the G.A.R. canon was placed such as plaques etc it could be considered a Civil War Memorial. If it is only the canon then it would not be but if there are accompanying plaques etc then it could be.

I actually found a functioning one room school, and couldn't put it into former schools.

While we're talking about schools, does Former Schools accept ruins of old schoolhouses? I've come across some very cool ones recently.

Re: What catagory do I slam this big square peg into??
it is still functoning as a school? odd. i have a few that are now used for other educational tasks (offices) and some 'vacant' ones too....
no, ruins are not accepted. there is another category for that (search for keyword 'ruins')
no specific category for GAR yet, though i swear i saw a DAR marker cat at one point. but didnt find it when i had Pics of one to post.
it has been discussed that there are TOO MANY Civil War Vet graves (and far too many of them are unknown, but they dont go into the unknown graves--misnamed, should be 'Jane and John Doe graves') for that to be a category.
otherwise, if there is some sort of memorial amongst the graves that is postable. there are several other CW related categories one could explore, and dont forget about the battlefields, if one was fought there.

Gaagh! I feel stupid. Not because I guessed there are no functioning one-room schools and was wrong, but because I didn't communicate what needed to be said. I should have said that I would be amazed that any particular one-room school was still functioning. What I said is equivalent to "it's unlikely that I will win the lottery, so I don't expect anybody to win the lottery." This is one of the points that I emphasize with my students. There are people in the world who will try to take advantage of poor math skills. Credit card companies are the worst offenders. Lawyers and politicians are also bad (of course not all lawyers and politicians). To fall for this fallacy myself is unforgivable.

The G.A.R. cannon is in the middle of a cemetery. (God only know's how or why you need a cannon to fish for G.A.R. unless they used G.A.R.s for projectiles.) I'll probably just add the G.A.R. cannon to the cannons section and add the pics of the 8 headstones to the listing as well. I don't think it qualifies as a memorial. It has the cannon, one U.S. flag and the 8 graves in a odd circle. The are seperated by a road that goes around on both sides of them. Other then that, no plaques or dedication that can be easily seen. Swizzle

This is a cement factory.
What category, though? At home I'm sure it would be a roadside attraction.

Where is it located? Do they have some type of roadside attraction website there? Maybe under another name? That is absolutely, wickedly awesome. I love it. I want it for my backyard. Swizzle

As it is used as advertising for the cement company I think you can submit it to 3 Dimensional Art

I'll try ginormous and 3-D. Do you think the soldiers are water towers?
This is in Czech Republic.
I found a Napolean Monument nearby, but it had already been waymarked. Also the Statue of Liberty was waymarked,

The towers are probably not water towers. If it is a concrete plant they probably contain cement and aggregate.

If it will not work in the other two categories try the Giants of Commerce cat. It may be that the old curmudgeon of a category leader might allow it to slip through even though it is a squarish peg and not rounded.

Yes, this is a well known concrete mixing plant near Brno city and the Austrelitz battlefield from the Napoleon wars. The company has several creative factories around CZ, and their trucks are also a piece of art. See more pictures at www.zapa-beton.cz.

I don't believe it has been waymarked yet. It is in North Hollywood at Vineland and Burbank Boulevard. it would be a great addition to the Artistic Neon category. Night time photo of sign.
