    Re: Waymarks: Posting vs. Visiting

Many areas of the UK have very few posted waymarks at the moment. In such areas it's quite easy to spot a new waymark as long as you're familiar with a few categories. Once all the obvious ones have been posted it will become easier to visit existing ones than find new ones; so the focus will naturally move to visiting.

Hopefully, waymarks within categories will become more straightforward to download to a PDA which will tip the balance further on the side of visiting.

I've recently posted a couple of visits on waymarks that I thought would be new posts, but turned out to already have been posted. As time goes on this will happen more and more.

    Re: Waymarks: Posting vs. Visiting

What would push me toward more visiting is a way to know about the waymarks AND REQUIREMENTS that are near me when I'm out and about.

Either a way to download waymarks like PQs for a given area that I can load into my GPS, or at bare minimum a mobile phone friendly website. My nirvana would be something that I can enter a GPS co-ordinate into (or use my phone's GPS chip) and it comes back with the 10 closest waymarks. Handy for knowing if that rare waymark you're standing in front of is going to be a new posted waymark, or a visit.

There is a part of me that is looking at the SDK for my Windows Mobile phone, and pondering how to make it do just that for me.

No doubt a more user-friendly site would make all the difference in the desire for visits.  (PQs) And the ability to merge waymarking onto geocaching profiles (numbers and such) would be a much needed draw. I wonder if anyone has ever done a questionaire with geocachers on this?

I post and visit.  I am a retired Vietnam veteran who is writing a book about Vietnam War memorials as I travel across America.  In doing my reseach, Waymarking.Com has been a invaluable source of information for me, so from my perspective the more that are waymarked or visited,  the better. So far my list of Vietnam War memorials has grown to over 450 and Multi war memorials that include a inscription to Vietnam number over 500 so there's no shortage of memorials of this nature since only about 250 have been waymarked thus far.  As far as anyone who wants to create a waymark for these types of memorials goes just contact me and I'll be happy to send a list of memorials in their area or any area they plan to visit.

That's pretty exciting! Good luck with your book!
