I for one am a US taxpayer who is enraged by your use of my equipment and demand that you pay me 32 cents for each time you turn on your GPS receiver from here on out. . Big Smile

No it doesn't bother me a bit that you get some enjoyment out of it.

Hope the democrats don't read this forum or they will figure out a way to tax us.

I would suggest keeping politics out of the forum. Having said that...
Yeah those democrats, always taxing and spending, taxing and spending. As opposed to those Republicans always taxing and keeping it for themselves and their cronies. Can't understand why anyone not a billionaire would hand over their vote... Cannon Fodder & Sheeples...

Agreed that we shouldn't get into a useless banter about the politics..... but it is interesting to note this headline in my home state.

Oregon governor looking at GPS-based mileage tax to fund roads

In short he would like to fit each vehicle in the state with a GPS monitor to tax actual miles driven. ConfusedAutomobile

    Can anyone say "big brother"?

For once, I'd be HAPPY not to get a satellite lock!

Absolutely! I'm sure we've all seen a time where our GPS got confused and there is a spike on our route because it thinks we went 'off course' for a few miles.

Here, we have one "express toll route" and through the use of transponders and license plate photography we are charged for where we enter and exit the ETR.

It's funny though, Big Brother that I assume as the government, it wouldn't bother me if they were able to track my movements... but there are other groups that I would rather not be watching Wink

    Cool BQ

As my real work involves a project which uses GPS technology coupled with cellular technology along with engine diagnostic information to track a very large fleet, I would say the governor idea is quite possible.  Now depending on what information the devices are set to send back it could be very invasive or more benign.  But to achieve what the governor would want probably more information would needed to be sent back to determine what roads were traveled along with distance on them instead of just total miles for a period.

But to get an idea of the type of information that can be captured and sent if desired include:  location, speed, direction, engine status (from as simple as engine off/on to  rpms,  coolant temperature, battery voltage) along with any other sensor type data.    By combining things like determining if the vehicle is idling with the engine on or sitting with engine off.  Or combining with GIS applications and data it can be determine things like whether a vehicle is speeding at the location and for how long the vehicle was speeding etc.
    But to give

A friend of mine writes GPS cell phone software applications in Slovenia.

His "fun" web site is http://triptracker.net/

but I can't quite remember the name of the professional site, its somthing like Klika or Krika.

The app he was showing us a couple of years ago showed the path he took going through the city, with the narrower lines representing when he was on the bus, and wider lines when he was walking.

    It's all so cool

Although the US of A is kind enough to permit use of its satellites, I feel there is a selfish component to the decision. By providing the technology free-of-charge it reduces incentive for a competing military to fund their own system, thereby ensuring the selective jamming method mentioned above has the desired effect when it's truly needed.

So, I guess I can blame the USA when I get a DNF on your brother's game Wink

    Wonder if I can sue?
