Re: WoOhOo!! My very first one ever

    WM77ME

A lucky seven with double 7's in the name to boot. Great job.

I noticed when I visited that the link error that sometimes pops up was affecting the page. Do you see this as well?

I have had some success making this go away by adding a return at the beginning of the long description before I start my text. I wonder if it is in my head of if it might be a partial solution to this intermittent problem.

By the way. I really like the tree eating the rail photo. The chimney photo is pretty cool too.

    Thanks for sharing.

Re: WoOhOo!! My very first one ever

This is what I see everytime I look at a waymark, set up a waymark or click on a link to a waymark. Everything on the right is cut off and 9 times out of ten the only way I can read the whole thing is to copy/paste into notepad. Swizzle

Re: WoOhOo!! My very first one ever

On this particular item, try turning OFF the HTML check box.
I think that the site will then create a bunch of (*link*) things where you have URLs.

    I think.  Worth a shot?

And good job on the Lucky 7 and the cool WM code WM 77 ME!

Re: WoOhOo!! My very first one ever

I like it.I think the double 7 is an omen. I have a location that has 8 different categories and I'll be adding some more waymarks all within .20 miles. I should have enough for 2 lucky sevens in the same spot. I want to find as many waymarks to add as possible to add to this spot and I know of at least 5 more. Oh and what html box are you talking about? Swizzle

Re: WoOhOo!! My very first one ever

i have this problem with profiles (mine in particular).

yes, it is an html box issue.....

when you check the box, the page loses its original width limit.

i cannot see my 'stat box' or 'ribbon box' (i have to switch to full screen). though, once you get below the stuff on the right of the page (map, my links, etc) you cant see the difference.

Re: WoOhOo!! My very first one ever

The html boxes were already turned off. There is a seperate box for the 7 waymarks. I'm gonna copy and paste the urls into the long description and try to put a name next to each to see if that will create a link to the waymarks. Swizzle

Re: WoOhOo!! My very first one ever

This is a bug that I see sometimes on my pages. It doesn't have anything to do with the HTML box being checked as swizzle pointed out. When the HTML box isnt checked the site is supposed to automagically create visit links but it will not in many cases and the url appears without being turned into a link.

I have a theory I have been testing. I think the problem is connected to the first line in the long description somehow.

Try this with the HTML box still unchecked and before you add any HTML code.

    Open edit
Go to the first letter in your long description
press enter (this will move all of your text down one line)
scroll to the bottom of the page
select the "update the waymark" button

See if this creates visit links for you.

Re: WoOhOo!! My very first one ever

Hmmm. That great sucking sound you hear is my theory going down the drain.

    OK let me see....

Are you sure the HTML box remains unchecked?

Is there text that you added touching the url?

Did you place the index finger of your left hand along side your nose while facing due north when updating the waymark?

Any of these things could contribute to the visit link not working.

    Confused

Re: WoOhOo!! My very first one ever

OK I see it. I went and checked the page source and looked a bit deeper.

The variables apparently do not allow visit links.

Copy & paste all of the information in that first variable to the long description section then go back and remove the URL's from the variable. That should work. Add that return at the top of the long description section and if my theory holds true it should work without a glitch.

Re: WoOhOo!! My very first one ever

another version of this bug is for the links not to work on submition, but when its approved they work properly....

my other comment was more about the width of the text....

Re: WoOhOo!! My very first one ever

Weird. I replied to this one yesterday but i guess it didn't stick. The width seems to be fine now but no links. I might have to find the add a link html thingy again and do a copy and paste like I do for the pics. Swizzle

Re: WoOhOo!! My very first one ever

Did you try moving the links from teh variable to the long description section? I am surprised if this didn't work.

Re: WoOhOo!! My very first one ever

Yup and just to make sure nothing was touching the url I opened another page and went right to the listing and did the copy and paste from there. I'm not sure which one of my waymarks it was but I know it worked on one of them. I'll try it again just to make sure. Swizzle

Re: WoOhOo!! My very first one ever

copy paste from another listing--was it the description page or the edit page?

ive noticed when you copy from the description page you get a crazy '?' at the beginning of the copied section. might that throw html off?

i try to c/p from the editing a mark page.

Re: WoOhOo!! My very first one ever

    OK, lets start over.

Open the edit and turn off HTML.

Copy & paste the text below into the long description. I just put this into a fake waymark and it worked. I removed some HTML code that looked suspicious. I also removed the & symbol from the Swizzle & Family it may be breaking the HTML or links as well.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There's 8 waymarks all in less then a half mile but 2 are in the
same category of Ghost Signs. All of these can be seen and logged
from one parking area and a couple hundred feet of walking. To find
all 8 waymarks take Rt.5 from Scotia into Amsterdam. Once you are
close to the Amsterdam/Fort Johnson border look for the signs for
Guy Park Manor. It'll be on your left across the train tracks.

I was working on another solution while you were working on this one.

If you were to want it all in HTML you could copy and paste in this one.

Re: WoOhOo!! My very first one ever

It took me quite a while to get it the way I got it now. All I did last time was take one of the < br>'s away and I lost 2 links and it took 3 tries to get the links back. I'm afraid I'll screw it up if I keep messing with it. My last reply is exactly what I did. A simple c/p, one for the url and one for the name of the link button. You think I should try to add the catagory and the # in front of each one as well? Swizzle

Re: WoOhOo!! My very first one ever

If you copy and pasted the items between the lines in my last post and got rid of everything in the long description that is there currently it should work just as the example shows.

I think some of your line breaks were the problem. I'm not that HTML savvy but this code <br/> was in the mix and I have never seen it before. I removed those and the ampersand and it worked in my test waymark.

Re: WoOhOo!! My very first one ever

I just looked at your latest incarnation and no I don't think you need numbers in front.

I would only recommend that you remove the URL's from the variable where they don't work as a link and are redundant with the information above.

  •  09-18-2009, 3:07 PM 25309 in reply to 25308

Re: WoOhOo!! My very first one ever

I was thinking about that. It does look rather cluttered but I think it'll be fine with the present links in place. I'll go clean up the variable part and be done with it. Swizzle
