No it does not seem to exist any longer.  I have not been able to find any information of when it was torn down.  This site gives a list of the current ones in the US -

History of the American Shot Tower

If you do a Google map street level view or Bing maps street view at Fulton & Clinton you do see a tower there.  I don't think it is the actual shot tower but a smoke stack but I may be mistaken.

It looks like a nice flatiron building, though...

    East Coast Shot Tower

I am totally into shot towers. If anyone is interested, visit the Philadelphia or Baltimore shot towers on Waymarking and search for nearest waymarks. I have a ton for both of those and lots of pictures to boot. I think shot towers represent an important cultural and historical link to the foundation of our country and they should be well-documented, if only to preserve that history.

God, I am such a geek. Sorry everyone.

Why are you sorry? First off, being a geek is awesome. Geek is just was people that are passionate about something non-mainstream get called. Good thing we are the majority.

Secondly, and more important, that is EXACTLY the type of statement that would make me want to visit your Shot Towers... because I would expect that the listings really complement the experience.

    Cool BQ

Thanks BQ. You are officially invited to stay at the geek home if you ever wanna come to Jersey to visit and collect waymarks!

It is not there anymore.  That area is the old "Wolf's Point" at the junction of the Chicago River branches.  Redeveloped many times over the years.  The Merchandise Mart is to the east across the river junction. I can dig into the Chicago Tribune archives and send you whatever articles I find.

    Re: Chicago Shot Tower

Personally, I find the stories of things that are no longer in existance to be just as (if not more) interesting than a picture of somthing that exists.

I have a very creative mind, and with just a little bit of direction I can picture the lifecycle of a place on this earth.

My first failed category was "There user to be a [fill in the blank] here". I thought it would be interesting to show a place today, and be able to read about it's history over the years. A play that I co-wrote started as an oral history project.

Then and now relies on photos of the past object, which may or may not be available. In addition, then and now has a time associated with it. My feeling is that to record a personal memory of somthing gone, the length of time it's been gone doesn't much matter.
