After waymarking, I download my coordinates into the mapping software that came with my GPSr (Garmin Mapsource).  I would like a way to paste in coordinates as a whole (N42 27.511 W83 41.785), instead of me having to parse them into N/S, E/W, longitude degrees, latitude degrees, longitude minutes and latitude minutes.  It would save me a few minutes.Smile

You can, just export your latitude and longitude as decimal degrees and then on waymark page change how you enter the coordinates to that format.  Or do it like me and paste coordinates to the short description area temporarily as one paste and then I can enter or cut paste from one place.Smile

That is how I do it.

That's how I do it too, but wouldn't it be nice to paste it in all in one?  It would save a bunch of highlighting Ctrl-C, Ctrl-V repeatedly, over and over, again and again...etc. etc. ad infinitum (it seems).

When reviewing waymarks I see evidence of many others doing the same, but accidentally leaving some bits behind (which I've done as well).

Isn't it great when great minds think alike or is it feeble minded flocking together. Smile

All undoubtably worthy ideas, but just a friendly reminder to keep site performance at the top of the priority list.

    Well said.  I second it.

    Re: Waymarking Feature Requests

I thought of this while driving down the road the other day.

There are some categories that feature locations that are available only on an annual or seasonal basis.

There should be a reminder button that can be triggered to remind the waymarker that a particular waymark needs to updated.

For example a festival might occur yearly but on different dates depending on where the weekend or a holiday falls.  A reminder 2 months prior to the event in the coming year to verify that the waymark is still available or updated would help insure that the information on seasonal submissions not will not become dated or stale.

I have a corn maze that is only available a few months out of the year. I almost forgot to update it this year. It is my third update of the waymark. A reminder would insure that the database and waymarks are up to date. If a category is seasonal in nature then perhaps a yearly review of those waymarks would be in order as well.

I'd personally like to see the breakdown of waymarks per category. For instance Waymarker X has 112, Waymarker Z has 100 etc...

right on, saopaulo! um, not that it's about the numbers...

    saopaulo1:
a rating system for individual waymarks or a nominating system to nominate a waymark for Feature Waymark.

When I first saw this thread, I thought it was about Featured Waymarks (sometimes I'm a little slow). But once again, I gotta agree with Saopaulo on this one. It would be nice to let TPTB know about a particular waymark. This might even save somebody some time looking through recent submissions. Time that would be better spent reading all the emails saying "Hey I like this one, you should feature it." Hmmm, I still like the idea.

    It's been said already, but...

VIDEO!!! how cool would it be to paste a short clip into a waymark?

    Re: Waymarking Feature Requests

Yes, for Neon signs and for other kinds of waymarks that move, like sculptures and windmills and such.

Flickr just added a video capability...90 sec or something.

What I like to see is:
1: a more stable waymarking page
    --- without crashes.
--- the country to stay after being added instead of disappearing or giving you "You need to add ...
--- the $ amount of admissions not disappear 75% of the time.
---. when updating or at other times (before submitting waymark)  to get the next page instead of that dreaded "Error" page.

I totally agree.  It happens EVER time I post something.  GRRRRR.

    Re: Waymarking Feature Requests

I agree with this one.  I have to go to the following website to convert my lat/lon to the correct format.

    http://www.rcn.montana.edu/resources/tools/coordinates.aspx?nav=11&c=DD&md=83&mdt=NAD83/WGS84&lat=41.495282&lath=N&lon=-82.088556&lonh=E

    Re: Waymarking Feature Requests

For the map in the profiles, how about a waymarks posted and viewed tab (maybe as a default) Kinda like the grid is.

    Re: Waymarking Feature Requests

The number one feature for me would be to download ALL the locations for a given category.

I travel often and try to keep my gps loaded with current category locations but I dont have the time to look up waymarks in new locations before trips.  Therefore, I just want to download ALL points for the entire category.   An easy way may be to allow premium members to select up to 3000 miles from current zip-code (that should get me most of North America).  The current 200 miles is too restrictive.

Second feature would be ability to be notified of changes/additions to my favorite categories.

Third feature would be Pocket Queries like Geocaching.com

There is no mileage restriction on the categories.  Go to the category page and they are organized from newest to oldest.  So if you are interested in the a particular category you can start at the oldest and get those and as new ones are added just download those.  Might be tough to do the first time through but after that it is just downloading the newest.  Really don't have to worry too much about archived Waymarks very often.

You can already get the new waymarks to your favorite categories, just subscribe to the rss feed for the category. On the category page is on the bottom right with a rss icon and Newest...

    Re: Waymarking Feature Requests

You can also download the entire category in a KML file that can then be dropped in Google Earth if you happen to use GE. On the main category page there is a button for the GE file on the right hand side of the page.
