well, as far as i can tell, the existence of a WAYMARKING GEOCOIN warrants the ability to drop in in waymarks? if not, why it is trackable with a geocaching icon? ive seen one in person (they bought it for a lot of $ on that auction site), and noticed that there was abounty for one in seattle. i think some waymarkers even got one for 'special circumstances'.......

What is the logic behind adding hitchhikers to Waymarking?

Actually, they could work similar to my Car Travel Bug in geocaching.  It won't fit in a container, but I keep logging it into and out of caches.

Could do the same thing with travellers in WM:  Except you don't actually LEAVE it.  You just include it with the visit, maybe, and that puts a record in the traveller's log.

There are some Waymarkers that don't geocache.  This would allow them to play with travellers if they so wished.

[FEATURE] Bring back the waymarking favicon. It used to a part of the website years ago. On my work computer where I bookmarked waymarking.com a long long time ago, it still shows up. I guess because it was grandfathered, for lack of a better term? However when I got my new laptop and bookmarked the site, it just shows the generic blank page favicon. (This is all using Firefox, but I think IE is the same.)

Re: [CRITICAL] - These are the major feature requests or bugs to be fixed.

you mean the red 'w' logo that appeared next to the web address? we have an ipod touch, i saved the home page to the 'desktop' and it has this logo. though geocaching had a 'webshot' of the home page.

i havent been in the store in a long time, but are there any new swag items for sale? i got the stickers before they 'had a use' and the tshirt has come in handy many a time when someone questions what i am doing--case in point: at disney world, i hadne even made it to the epcot gate when i had a plainclothes approach me and question my 'odd behavior' [let me see you find the benchmarks in the parking lot]. i got to point at my shirt, show my gps and camera/pics i had just took and explain that 'hey man, im just playing a game'.....

i would like the 'w' on a shirt (can i get my custom WMcode for my sticker printed on it too). what about a signal waymarking shirt? how about dropping my shirt in the waymarks i visit Wink

i have always seemed to be way ahead of the waymarking curve--i asked for the 'stats' on the home page, like, a year before that was a good idea. Snail

You're a man ahead of your time.

I'm still not on board with Waymarking hitchhikers. I do think we need more shirts and hats. There was some discussion in this thread about ideas for t-shirts.

Re: [CRITICAL] - These are the major feature requests or bugs to be fixed.

[bug]  - sort of.  When updating one's profile, there is no confirmation that the update has been completed.  Instead it goes back to the default screen asking for the password again.  I did this several times before I realized that the update actually did go through!  It would be nice if, instead, a message popped up that said something like, 'You have successfully updated your profile."

[Feature] request for a batch upload  of photos feature.  An ability to upload three to five separate photos at one time would be very helpful. (Did I already request this? If so sorry for the repeat).

This made me think of another T-Shirt idea.
They have a shirt that detects and displays the strength of a wifi signal dynamically.
They have a shirt that displays the audio spectrum of an input source, dynamically.

We need a shirt that displays the wearers current GPS coordinates.  DYNAMICALLY.
Or maybe a hat.  That'd probably be easier on the technology.

Then to waymark something, just a get a shot of yourself standing next to it.

[FEATURE] - My GPS and My Camera fields in the user profile similar to the new My GPS field over at the other famous GPS game.

    [bug]

Waymark should not be allowed to be voted on/denied/etc by a manager if it's been pulled from the queue.  Same way a waymark should not be allowed to be published/denied multiple times as mentioned earlier.

I use my geocoin to track miles I have travelled geocaching. TBQ8KR . I guarantee that allowing Geocoins to be dipped into a waymark would increase visits.

P.S. I also have a Waymarking Geocoin. It was a Christmas gift from someone who knew I would love it.

Re: [CRITICAL] - These are the major feature requests or bugs to be fixed.

[FEATURE] - For "icon hunters", in the Category Directory view, have checkmarks by each category with at least one approved post and visit (separately).

    Example:

                                                                    Posted  Visited

    Alpaca and Llama Farms                            X

    Ancient Traces and Roads                                        X

    Animal Hospitals                                                        X                X

Where the two X's could be different icons, if desired by wm.com.

The category grid and waymark lists do not give indication of what challenges yet remain to be found.

It is possible to see photo metadata with plugin for Firefox. search add ons for EXIF.
Opera natively shows metadata in Image Properties. In both cases open photo in new tab.

Re: [CRITICAL] - These are the major feature requests or bugs to be fixed.

Having spent the better part of an hour trying to upload Visit logs to only three of the 20+ Waymarks I went to yesterday....

[BUG] - Image Uploader times out and didn't do anything...

[BUG] - Image Uploader tells me that the site is not available or might have moved

[BUG] - Image Uploader just spins and spins and spins... but nothing happens.

When it actually does work, which is about 20% of the time, it takes FOREVER to upload a 400kb file. Since a lot of Waymarking is about the images, this feature seems pretty important.

    Cool BQ

Opera doesn't show Exif GPS IFD. At least not the Opera version I have. But it shows quite a bit of metadata.

In Firefox I use Exif Viewer 1.45 (well, that's what's current at the moment).
I like FxIF too, but it shows a little less information.

Re: [CRITICAL] - These are the major feature requests or bugs to be fixed.

[FEATURE] - A query to see only the very newest listed categories.  Sometimes when you look at the newest category link, a newly listed category can be far down the list and sometimes on the next page.  I don't know if they are listed based on creation date, but shouldn't they come up in a newest category query based on active listing date?   The RSS only shows one page and if the newest one is on the second page, it does not show up.

[FEATURE] - A way to only show the categories that we do not have a post in yet.  I want to see only the categories that I haven't posted to yet so that I can see what I still need.

If you go to the my page link then select category grid the grid gives you an option to select the grid type. Select waymarks posted and update the grid. This will give you an idea of the categories you have not posted in and a nice visual of where your gaps are. If you have excel you can highlight the entire grid then copy and then paste with "paste special" using text and the excel spreadsheet gives you the names in place of the icons in the spreadsheet you have created. Then you could track it yourself
grid type: Waymarks Posted Waymarks Visited Combined Posted and Visited View All Category Icons

All great ideas here everyone. I'm collecting these and presenting them to the higher ups for review. I don't know yet how much resources we'll have to implement feature updates but I know at least we'll have *some*. Please continue posting ideas as they come to you.

How about something in Peer Review that clearly identifies an appropriate (potential) category as falling under 'Waymarking Games'.   This might free up thinking of it as a 'game' rather than a stand-alone general category.   Seems to me like the line between the two should be made obvious before we vote - this could change any support or opposition the category might receive and eliminate alot of the belligerent intercourse going on in the forums.

Someone suggested earlier that the requested path should be visible in Peer Review, so if someone selects "Games" you'd be able to see it (also the chosen keywords). I have that one jotted down.

I've been meaning to sort thru these things to approach OpinioNate about some of them.  Initially I had hoped for a collection of the main items that everyone has been seeing or wanting.  Some are in this list and some are more of a perk or nag.  But the basis of this was to get some consensus about key items that everyone has noticed for a long time that could bear some improving if possible.  Not to say that everything can be addressed but to get a collective set of the definitive 'musts'

I think that, without a doubt, the most frequent complaints and request for changes concern photo uploading and management.

The system will NOT accept higher resolution pics which means that a lot of us have to resize our photos before uploading.  Even then they will frequently not upload.  It looks as if they do, but nothing goes through.  A repeat always succeeds, but it is a pain to have to browse again, retype the tag and upload a second time.  This may be due to no fault in the system, I don't know.  Maybe it's just inherent in trying to do anything on the internet.

The most requested feature has to be a way to upload photos ONCE and be able to access them for more than one waymark.  This would save a lot of people a lot of time and hassle.  (Seems it would save on your server space, too, but I don't know if that is a concern).  Close behind this is the ability to EDIT photo titles and tags.  It is frustrating to catch a typo, or have a need to change something, and having to choose between letting it ride or archiving the photo and uploading it again.

[feature] As long as I'm on the subject of photos - It is nice to see the five thumbnails below the default photo.  Personally, I'd love to see another row of five displayed.  Probably the majority of waymarks have five or fewer, but for those with larger galleries, it would be nice.  In viewing waymarks, there is no way to tell if there are more without opening the whole gallery.  Maybe even some way to indicate that there are more would help.  Sure, I suppose it would make the page load a little more slowly, but it would affect only those with more photos.

Anyway, that's my perception as to what is at the top of the list.

Re: [CRITICAL] - These are the major feature requests or bugs to be fixed.

After reviewing the posts previous to this one these seem to be the major items:

    [BUGS]

    * URLs are not consistently displayed in listings.  Intermittently they are only plain text.

    * Photo uploading intermittently fails with different results.

    * Once a listing is accepted or declined it should only be 're-evaluated' using that link, not simply handled as another review.  Remove the option to 'review as new'.

    * Forum links from "Post New Forum Topic" doesn't work.  Side thought: Should officers be emailed about new topic?

    [FEATURES]

    * Bulk upload of photos.  Select photos for waymark from user image gallery pool instead of repeated uploads for each listing.  Allow metadata to be included and displayed.

    * Bookmark listings.  Share bookmark lists. Show/Hide bookmarks on listings.

    * Notify listing owner when their listing has been sent to vote.

    * Show all votes in officer vote not just ones with comments.

    * Optional variables to be labeled as optional.

    * Sticky dates for multiple logging on common date.

These may or may not be addressed depending on various factors and it may take some time to look into these.  It is just a list of commonly mentioned things.  Do these represent the main items? Are there others that are common to everyone?

Re: [CRITICAL] - These are the major feature requests or bugs to be fixed.

I just had a quick read through this thread and would agree with what you've listed here as major items CM, especially the photo uploading issues. Given the importance to the game, photos (and the inherent tasks associated with them: uploading, naming, etc.) should be much more accomodating and stable. It really is the crux of this game and disappointing to me in it's current state.

As a newbie, one thing I would like:

[FEATURE] - The ability to see which specific WM a particular member has recently visited, similar to GC. On the weekend, I went out with Blue Quasar and did many WMs, but had to rely on him to email me a list to ensure that I was entering all visits.
