    Waymark creation and requirements

    Hello,
I am wondering about how to go about submitting a Waymark that one isn't able to obtain some required information for.

Specifically the date/month of birth and death for an author. I have the years, but I have not been able to find the rest of the information that the catagory requires.

The author is James Macgillivray and he authored the tales of Paul Bunyan. His headstone only lists years and web searches yield very little beyond the stories he wrote.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

If you are talking about the Grave of a Famous Person category (one of the categories I manage) just use January 1st for the date and month. In that category, lack of exact dates (especially birth dates) is a fairly common situation.

Most excellent. I will finish polishing up the Waymark tonight and submit it.

    Thank you very much.

I think you meant to say he was the ghost writer for Paul Bunyan's autobiography.  It is pretty obvious that Paul was better with an axe than he was with a pen, but he was not without talents.

Paul certainly was a wonder with his axe. In Mr. McGillivray's case though, he is recognized as the first author to put sir Paul's name to ink when he published the story "Tall Tales" back in 1906. Other authors then came along and put Mr. Bunyan's name onto other tall tales, folk tales and legends and spread his fame. As such, the story that began the legend was actually based off of a logger in upper Michigan. See you on the trails.

You might consider submitting to the Dead Poets Society, which is open to all authors, not just poets.
