group know which category it is and we will see if anyone is interested in assisting you with the problem. I think if you can promote one or two new officers then vote to demote the other lower ranked officer first you can then get the 100% vote you will need to demote the leader. If your open enrollment is off you may be stuck though.

If open enrollment is off, then he can still put the other officer up for vote. (2/3's of the votes are required).  Once the category is at two officers open enrollment should be turned on automatically.

I recently put up an inactive officer (not leader) for a demotion vote.  This is a fairly active group with seven or eight officers who log in regularly.  I was the only one to vote, and the demotion went through! 

So, I'm not sure how well the current process is working.  It presupposes that the officers are active and do indeed vote.

And, the real problems are categories with NO active officers who are unresponsive.  It seems to me that the only way to deal with most really problem categories is for SOMEONE, whether it be a Groundspeak staffer, or someone designated by Groundspeak, to be given the power and authority to access these categories and make demotions and promotions.

Geocaching.com has volnteer reviewers who can disable caches, etc. so this approach is not without precedent.

So, here's hoping they won't wait too much longer before implementing a solution. . . . .

 

 

How voting works.  The total number of votes is the sum of the yeas and nays.  Abstains are ignored for voting.  In your example if you voted to demote and no one else voted then 100% voted in favor of the demoting of the officer.

So if I am a lone active officer will my lone demote vote get rid of a leader who has been gone for over a year?

If you are in this situation then you could attempt it and give me your results.

Well, I tried it. I called for the vote and voted to oust the leader in a group of inactive officers (BruceS  is in the group but I recently promoted him). I sent him a note and asked him not to vote since I was testing it out. He had received the email to vote and was just about to cast his ballot when I tampered with his ballot with my request.

Results......Nothing. I never received another email detailing if the vote failed or passed but the AWOL leader is still there.

I just checked the past activity tab and it does have a note there that the vote failed.

Here is a group that has 1 Leader  and 2   Officers- -->  Web Camera Voyeurs where only the Leader signs in occasionally with 2 absent Officers and 33 Regular Members   with 490 Waymarks and NO help.

I just joined the group in case the leader wants help.  I've only done one of these, but I think they're fun!

I would not worry too much about this category considering who the leader is and who the officers are.  Two of the members are the same person and the third is an active person in the community.

What makes you feel this category is abandoned? Have you heard of or had an experience with the group where there has been no action on waymarks that have been submitted?

I would not worry too much about this category considering who the leader is and who the officers are.  Two of the members are the same person and the third is an active person in the community.

Mtn-Man is a great guy, and if someone wants me to ask him to pop in if Jeremy(2) is busy.... just ask.

The problem with helping out a group like this is there needs to be at least one active member who can promote other users to officer status. As it is now this category is dead in the water with no real options.

I wonder if the profile is based on the last time he logged into groundspeak (IE, if he logged in geocaching, it updated his profile with that date on waymarking) where has the second date is actually his real logging into WM date.

I'm on day 111 waiting on an abandoned category.

After 147 days of waiting, my oldest waymark in this category was finally published.  It looks like there is a new member publishing them!  I had 7 of them waiting and 2 have been published so far.  Thanks Ernmark for joining this group and getting things moving again!

I joined the group a few weeks ago to see what happened to my submissions & sent an email to the leader about them w/ an offer to help out - didn't hear back, but did get a Groundspeak promotion email today...so as far as I'm concerned, the Cat's back in business!!    ..except for mine that are in the queue!

 

 

I guess this "Leader" (a regular member only)  signed in and promoted one to be an Officer.

BTW: Seeing that a number of "Leaders" are only Regular Members and still owning the Category, I think I will NOT pay my 'Premium Membership' any more either.

Perhaps if Odragon joined you could then vote to promote him and he could do some reviewing.

You might also want to consider voting out the folks who haven't logged in since 4/16/2008 or 3/18/2007 or 5/17/2006. Delaware deserves better.

..looks like I can review & invite someone to join the group (which already has open enrollment) - that's pretty much it!

The queue is officially clean - save for my lone submission from October. Was 2, but someone had the same one in the queue from about 2 weeks earlier...at least I have photos for a visit!

Anyway, we can remove this one from the "Hall of Shame"...unless I get hit by a bus!
