Re: Scavenger Hunt Questions/Bug Reports
I love that the list of waymarks shows the title and coordinates. Very handy feature! But I think it would be great if right under the title of the waymark, it listed the category. An abbreviated category name would work just great for me.
I think this simple add-on would be a really helpful feature.

Re: Scavenger Hunt Questions/Bug Reports
bootron:If you join someone else's hunt that has a waymark that you already visited, you'll have to visit that spot again. Otherwise you would be starting a hunt with an advantage that the other hunt participants don't have.
This doesn't seem to work quite as it should. I joined a Hunt started 1/8/11. I have a visit logged to one of the Hunt's waymarks on 1/2/11 which shows up as not yet found for the Hunt as it should. But I realized I already found another waymark in the Hunt on 1/2/11 as well. When I logged a visit I got credit in the Hunt for the visit even though my log date was 1/2/11!

Re: Scavenger Hunt Questions/Bug Reports
Maybe, just asking, is this because you clicked on the waymark THRU the hunt page, and that's why it gave you credit? I"m just wondering.... it probably doesn't make any difference whether you access the waymark thru the hunt or normal means, logging a visit would still get you credit for the hunt visit?

Re: Scavenger Hunt Questions/Bug Reports
Peter and Gloria:I believe that adding the same waymark more than once resulted from the use of the Back button. When on a new waymark that gives you the choice of adding it to a hunt as a wildcard, after clicking to submit it, if you use the Back button, you can click to submit it again. Apparently the system only checks the validity when it displays the waymark, NOT when the Submit button is pushed. This has also resulted in another problem. I had several new waymarks open that I wanted to add to a SH as wildcards. I clicked Submit on each waymark but I wasn't paying attention and after I added the last needed wildcard to give me 100 waymarks in the hunt, I clicked Submit on 2 more waymarks resulting in "wildcards required: -2 and after visiting each waymark, my Hunt Statistics are "waymarks visited: 102 of 100". The worst part is that it doesn't consider it to be Completed. Here is a screen captureThis is a link to the private SH
Bump Will it be possible to Complete this SH or do I lose the all the effort that went into creating over 80 wildcards for this SH?

Wow, this situation would bug me to death! I sure hope there is a way for you to get credit for the SH. What a mess!

Is there a way to filter the type and waymarks. I would like to create a hunt a specific type of location within certain area.

There is not a way to do it directly however with a bit of work you can get there. For example when I did created the Missouri History Hunt, I wanted to include only waymarks which fell in the History department in the state of Missouri. First I started by temporarily ignoring the other 14 department by going to each department and clicking the ignore button on top of page (thumbs down). Then went to the scavenger hunt page and created the hunt with a sufficiently large radius to cover the state from the center I selected. To restrict it to just Missouri as my did touch into other states, on the scavenger hunt page you can select country and then the state/province drop down will appear, thus I selected US and then Missouri. Then I had it select the waymarks, to get an even spread across the state I had to generate my list a few times. Once I had saved the scavenger hunt I went back and un-ignored the departments I had temporarily ignored. Does sound like a lot of work but really was quick. You can get down to the individual category or just a couple categories if you so desired just by ignoring more.

Re: Scavenger Hunt Questions/Bug Reports
What to do???
I ran a scavenger hunt for an area I'll be visiting tomorrow. 5 Lucky 7 waymarks showed up on the hunt, and I didn't realize till just now that I've already visited every waymark in the several Lucky 7's I've checked so far. So even though I clicked to ignore all waymarks I've already visited, in order to get credit for the Lucky 7 waymark I have to visit those 7 waymarks in each Lucky 7 again? That would be 35 waymarks instead of 5.
Would it be considered cheating if I just re-visited one waymark in each Lucky 7 before claiming a visit on it?
If I had gotten three Lucky 7s like this in a 5 mile/3 wm scavenger hunt, I'd actually have to visit TWENTY ONE waymarks in order to get credit for the hunt, not the three waymarks I set for the parameters. That's a huge difference!

If you have visited all the waymarks in the lucky 7 I don't really think you have to visit any of them again. But if you wanted to visit one location I think you are fine. If you are concerned about getting Lucky 7 waymarks in your hunt (or any other category for that matter) just temporarily ignore the category and they won't show in your hunt.

Re: Scavenger Hunt Questions/Bug Reports
The funny thing is that I DID ignore a bunch of categories in order to restrict the location of the hunt, but when I saw the Lucky 7's I mistakenly thought they'd have new wm that I hadn't visited yet. My bad! Now I know better. I won't visit every one of the wm in the Lucky 7 again, just pick one from each (which is super easy to do). Thanks for the feedback.

Bump AgainIt's been almost three months since I first reported this problem. With no response, I guess that since I can never finish this scavenger hunt, the only choice that I have is to delete it and start a new one.

Re: Scavenger Hunt Questions/Bug Reports
Just a crazy thought.... but can you delete two visits, bringing the total to 100, and then maybe it will count the hunt as complete? Might be worth a try, since you plan to delete the hunt anyway. I know it sounds dumb, but so is the situation you're in with 102 of 100 visited and the hunt still not complete!

I gave that a try but it didn't help. About an hour ago, I got an email from Bootron. I looked at the SH and the two extra waymarks have been deleted. The SH is now marked as completed. In fact it shows that it was completed on March 30th.

I have mended your broken hunts, true. We will be fixing the back button issue in the next release. Thanks for pointing this out, sorry for the delay.

Re: Scavenger Hunt Questions/Bug Reports - Category totals
If you go to your profile and hit 'view all category icons' it shows a 'total' of 1020 out of 1000

I'm guessing it a bug.

Re: Scavenger Hunt Questions/Bug Reports - Category totals
I'm in a pickle!! I submitted a few waymarks today for scavenger hunt wildcards. Some of the waymarks can fit in more than one hunt, but even though there's a drop-down arrow, the program now will not let me choose which hunt I want to add the waymark to. It wants to choose for me.
I can figure out a work-around THIS time, but why can't I choose which hunt I put my wildcard waymarks in?
In the past sometimes I "create" the wildcard from the link on the scavenger hunt, but I thought in the past I could choose which hunt to assign it to (as long as it met the parameters).
What am I missing?

Re: Scavenger Hunt Questions/Bug Reports - Category totals
I am totally perplexed. I've given a choice of which hunt to add the waymark to sometimes, but others (when it appears to me that the wm meets the criteria), I don't get a choice.

Scavenger Hunt Questions/Bug Reports - Category totals
I remember this discussion when the scavenger hunts first began. There seems to be a discrepancy in the distance calculation (it appears to be different for waymarks the hunt selects and the wildcard ones you want to add).
Here's an example:
My hunt center point is: N 35 56.762; W 97 15.275
A waymark (just one ex.) I'd like to add to the hunt for a wildcard, but can't: N 36 07.595; W 97 03. 867 Distance from hunt center: 16.38 miles
A waymark that the hunt selected: N 36 09.484; W 97 05.034 Distance from hunt center: 17.465
The scavenger hunt will not allow me to add my wildcards (a bunch near the above example). When I ran the hunt, I knew I'd get wildcards, and that was the purpose of creating some of the waymarks. Now I'm worried that I'm going to have to scrap the hunt and run a new one to accomodate the waymarks I've created for wildcards.

Re: Scavenger Hunt Questions/Bug Reports
I have a SH I created that one of the waymarks was archived after the hunt began. Does this mean I can no longer complete this hunt as I no longer have an option to submit a log on that WM?

Re: Scavenger Hunt Questions/Bug Reports
That is a real dilemma! How did you find out that the waymark was archived? If I ran a hunt and found out after the hunt started that one of the waymarked I needed to visit had been archived, I'd be very tempted to "visit it" both physically and online so that I could complete the hunt. For large hunts having to re-do a hunt because of an archived waymark could mean I'd lose all the work I had already done (not to mention wasted time and gas!). What kind of waymark was archived?

I have a similar situation. Can anyone help me? I now have time to work on scavenger hunts, and saw that I have one hunt (Edmond Scavenger Hunt #6) that shows 100 of 100 visited, but the waymark is NOT registering as completed. It's ONE HUNDRED waymarks, so I really don't want to lose all that work!!! I had put off finishing this hunt for so long, since I needed to eat at a certain restaurant for the 100th visit. Today we ate there, but the hunt won't mark as completed. Thanks to anyone who can help.

Re: Scavenger Hunt Questions/Bug Reports
I did a SH once and, luckily for me, it was only one where 20 new WMs had to be created. I quickly achieved that and waited for something to happen but it never did. I contacted the powers that be and asked why that would be. I received a fairly prompt and very courteous reply advising that I then had to "visit" my own created WMs. I did that and the SH was shown as completed!!! I then went and deleted all 20 visits of my own WMs as I cannot see the point in doing that. I then checked to see if the SH remained as completed and it did. This happened around April/May time of this year so I do not know if there has been and SH changes since then. I have not tried another SH since then so do not know if that is still the case. My sympathies are with you if you have to log a 100 visits and then delete them all.
Edited to add: I just noticed that yours were all "visits" so maybe you have to do something else.

I see no point in logging all those visits for a scavenger hunt only to go back and delete them. That's crazy! I am surprised to learn that deleting the visits actually keeps your hunt "complete". Learned something new! You are correct, that all of mine are visited (hunt states 100 of 100 visited). We were told to use this forum for any scavenger hunt questions/bugs, so I'm hoping someone is monitoring it.

Re: Scavenger Hunt Questions/Bug Reports
I have included a screenshot of the one and only SH I did and it shows my visits being 0 out of 20 but that the SH is complete. I do not like to visit my own WMs so would not have been too bothered if this had been nullified by my actions of deleting my visits. I had a search for the email that told me what to do so you could contact that person at GS directly but I must have let gmail delete it after 30 days. ![]() Edited to add: Looks like the screenshot did not come through!
