Here's a couple of ideas:

An extra feature for peer review would be a "notes to reviewers" box, just like there is on Waymarks.  In here the category originator could deal with possible problems that they can foresee with their category, and meet the counter-arguments half way.  For example explaining how a category that may appear redundant at first sight is not really redundant.  Often you just *know* that people will raise a particular issue, and it would be great to read their minds and explain it to them.

Allow a category to have a gallery of its own.  This would enable category owners to upload pictures for use on the category page only.  At present you can illustrate a category page with pictures from waymarks once it is up and running.  But when you first create it you may have to rely on pictures from external web sites. (Perhaps this is already possible and I just haven't figured it out).

both these ideas would make things work more easy :)

I agree with the former.

As far as the latter, it might not have to be fake. Stick extra photos in your Waymarking Sticker Seekers entry or in your Bloggers entry...

I agree that the category description should "sell" itself and if the need is felt that that you wish you could present more information to the peer review with a note, then work a little more on the description.  To put this into perspective, let say you put  up a category with description which is lacking and less than convincing of the merits of category, however you put some very convincing information in the note and the category passes.  Six months from now when waymarkers go to the category and wonder "How did this category ever get through peer review?"

As far as a place to load photos, I load them to my Groundspeak profile gallery, I don't know the limit there but so far it works.

Not a bad idea, but you don't really need another feature to do this.

Just put a section in your proposed category description, that you could label "Note for Peer Review:"  Once it passes, you can edit this out.   Although, you might want to incorporate some of this material into the actual description for clarity for potential waymarkers.  Some cats have included photos in their description to illustrate what is acceptable and not acceptable.  I'm not sure about the gallery issue.

I can see the counter arguments against the notes to reviewers and I won't bother arguing about the itsy bitsy points where I disagree.  Life's too short. It was just a suggestion and I'll leave it at that.

As to the category specific gallery - what I have done on Geocaching to create a cache specific picture is to create a log (maybe on a working cache I never intend to sumbit), upload a pic, take its URL then delete the log.  The pic stays on GC.com and can be referenced on the cache page but no longer hangs off any log.

I must admit I don't understand any of the waymarking suggestions.

Huh? I don't understand.  I don't have waymarks in either of these categories and, having just looked them up, I don't suppose I ever will (no disrespect intended to the categories  - I'd not heard of them before and they are neither relevant to me personally)

I still think both my suggestions do have some merit, but there are ways around them both so they aren't screaming out for change.

The note to reviewers can be done by putting in a bit of text before review then editing it out. 

The category gallery can be done by the dodges with a "fake listing" described above.  A bit like the geocaching dodges I described.
