Waymarking Feature Requests
It has been suggested that we start a topic for feature requests to the Waymarking.com site. Whether it's pocket queries or a request for a waymarking breakfast every morning (j/k, please no joke requests) this is the place to ask.
Many of you are aware that the site is currently being redesigned, so any new features will probably not be implemented very soon. But it would be a good idea to have them on paper for the future and perhaps in some cases can be incorporated into the new version (Pheonix).
So, what would you like?

Re: Waymarking Feature Requests
Two things:
For officer review I'd like the same setup in peer review. When you click on the link in the email, you have to go back to read the category. When it's like it is in peer the category is there AND you can write comments.
I'd personally like to see the breakdown of waymarks per category. For instance Waymarker X has 112, Waymarker Z has 100 etc...

Re: Waymarking Feature Requests
Oh gosh, where to start... Just kidding.
1. My biggest dream would be an ability to search by a "type" variable. It could be a specific variable that you could choose when creating variables for a category which is a drop-down list that is filterable. This would allow a person who is interested in a specific subtype within a category to just pull up waymarks that match that. Example - a person is interested in the totem poles of the "Outdoor Wood Carvings" category, but not the chainsaw art. They would be able to filter out only the waymarks that have "Totem Pole" chosen as their type by the waymark poster. This would help with categories that are more general. I think we would also see a decline in ultra-specific categories that tend to be regionally focused and non-global in nature.
2. I'd like to be able to do a filter of my waymarks that have been submitted but haven't yet been reviewed. Right now you can search for waymarks you haven't yet submitted, but not for ones that are stuck in a category review limbo.
I can't think of much else on the spot like this, but I will ponder it.

Re: Waymarking Feature Requests
One small change I would add to the category creation workflow is to add a final step of making category visible rather than having to look in the edit settings area to set this. This step would only be available after the category has been approved in peer review and Groundspeak review.

Re: Waymarking Feature Requests
Make the same functionally available as in "Download all my waymarks" for other waymarkers in addition to my own. I seldom really want to know where I have been (I was there, so I know ) but am curious about others travels. edit: (maybe I don't want that... then people would laugh why I would go to Texas via Missouri, Arkansas, Tennessee, Mississippi, Louisiana) ... ya I still want it. (I came back more direct Texas, Oklahoma to Missouri)

Re: Waymarking Feature Requests
Feature Request: GPX files!
I guess I'll make it official:
Feature Request: Pocket Queries! Because I want a GPX of all the waymarks in a category.
Feature Request: Edit Text around Gallery Pictures I don't like having to delete the photo and reupload it to fix a typo.
And speaking of photos: Feature Request: Display the date the photo was TAKEN, not the date it was uploaded. Or let me edit it.
Feature Request: read EXIF GPS data from uploaded photos. I'll limit that request to the GPS data, because waymarking is about GPS. If you have to license software though, then it's pretty low priority.
Feature Request: Let me upload a photo one time, but have it show up in multiple waymarks if I so choose.
Feature Request: "Clone" a waymark, at least the basic fields, (Name, Quick Description, Detailed Description, Coordinates, Gallery), from one category to another.
OK, I can't think of anything else right now.

Re: Waymarking Feature Requests
One dumb thing that bugs me. When you edit a photo, there's always the plaque area around it in the thumbnails below the main default photo. It's not really important, just a small pet peeve.

Re: Waymarking Feature Requests
In relationship to Feature Waymark:
I know this has been discussed before. Either a rating system for individual waymarks or a nominating system to nominate a waymark for Feature Waymark.

Re: Waymarking Feature Requests
I would like to be able to see people's visits and photos much more easily than at present. The same sort of thing as on geocaching (especially with Firefox) where I can list all logs and see small thumbnails of the pics, and click for an instant slide show.
At presnt the log is a small insignificant link at the very bottom of the page after two dozen (mostly) irrelevant map links, so I click, watch the blue background, get the text and a bit of a pic, click on 'see gallery', watch the blue background, get the gallery thumbnails, click a pic, watch the blue background, pic loads - nice!, go back to gallery, watch the blue background, choose another pic, watch the blue background, pic loads - more nice!
If more people join waymarking, visits will be more important as a) potential new waymarks become limited (I've logged Kendal's one and only Odd Fellows Hall) so visits will be a significant way of playing the game compared to now. b) visits are fun to read, to hear people's reactions, contributions and thoughts about the spot. It's much of what drives geocaching - without the logs it would not be half as much fun.
If waymarking is to grow, visits need to have a much higher focus.

Re: Waymarking Feature Requests
I thought of another one.
Feature Request: Send to GPS button on each waymark's page I use Garmin.
Don't you just love these easy ones I request?
Feature Request: Photo source: Allow URLs, not just local drive specifications. In case I've already uploaded the photo to flickr or somewhere.

Re: Waymarking Feature Requests
Following 0ccam's format: Feature Request: On a waymark page where five photos are shown add a button that allows the viewer to scroll through all of the gallery using the thumbnails.
Feature Request: Allow the user to upload more than one photo at a time. Feature Request: I do not want the all the logs on the waymark page but would like easier access to logs. It would be nice to have them all on one page somewhere for viewing. Try to eliminate the number of clicks to see logs and photos.
Feature Request: Clone feature to list waymark in another category easily. Even if this was only the coordinates and location information it would make the process easier. Feature Request: Waymarks along a route.
Feature Requests: These have already been mentioned but I will add a second nod to them in case you are adding up votes.
GPX files Search by variable Photos may be used for more than one waymark Search for submitted but unapproved waymarks Gallery Photo edit feature.
Thanks for asking.

Re: Waymarking Feature Requests
I'll add one:
Ability in Peer Review voting to offer up potential duplicate categories based on keywords in the new category's description. This same control can be placed on the 'create new category' page as well to halt duplicate creations before they go too far.
If you're gonna dream, why not dream big?

Re: Waymarking Feature Requests
My esteemed colleauges have hit upon my wish list items, but here goes
1. I want to click a button and see ALL unapproved for whatever reason (Not finished, Denied, Submitted but not approved)
2. Cloning from an existing waymark as a starting point
3. Video uploads
4. Gallery Space for my photos.
5. Option to link to gallery for waymark, instead of uploading new
6. Show visits without clicking in
7. Slideshow of recently uploaded pictures

globetrotters.us:8. Track geocoins through waymarks
I second that one!
Would it be possible for only Waymarking coins or would that be to restrictive?

Nate, in this regard, please see my post here where I talk about the "stacked waymarks" concept.
Besides that, my biggest "wants" are GPX file downloads (individually and in batches like pocket queries) and a better way to carry "in the field" an up-to-date, complete electronic version of the waymark creation requirements for each category.

Re: Waymarking Feature Requests
When logging a benchmark on the geocaching benchmark area, checking the
box called "Add a waypoint to the log" causes an instant re-formatting
of the "Post a new log" form.
I would like it very much (and so would my backlog) if the "Add New XXX
Waymark" form would have a box labeled: "I will be uploading [ ]
pictures", and BINGO, it reformats the page and makes room for
identifying and captioning all the x pictures right in the same form
without having to play pattycake with the site to put multiple pictures
in.
(I did notice that there is now no picture input on the form. This is a backward step in my opinion.)

Re: Waymarking Feature Requests
This one is probably an easy request that may even be able to be done now. I just got a shiny new laptop and while recreating all my favorites/bookmarks in both IE and Firefox, I noticed the waymarking.com favicon is not showing up. The geocaching.com and many others work fine, but no waymarking. It must have been there at one time because there's one on my old laptop and my computer at work.
Thanks!

Re: Waymarking Feature Requests
As someone who spends half their week on a dial-up connection my main wish is to do with the uploading of photos. I have most of my photos stored on flickr and it annoys me that I have to download the photo I want to use to then upload it to waymarking. I feel that there should be a url link that can be used like in blogs.
I also have photos that I wish to use for several categories and again it annoys me that I have to upload the same one each time for a category and not be able to select one already in my own gallery on waymarking.
Editing of the photo description you have uploaded should be allowed. I have discovered typing errors after the upload and other than deleting the photo and starting again there is no way for me to correct those typos.
Because of my dual connections I tend to start a new waymark from the ADSL connection and upload the photos then save it all and work on filling in the details later when I have more time (which is usually from my dial-up connection), what I would like to be able to do is set up a very basic start, upload my pics then save it all for finishing later. At present I have to put in all sorts of details so that I can advance to the save for later page. Actually the URL method of pic uploading would solve a lot of the time limitations in getting the basic new waymark onto the site.
Uploading more than one pic at a time is a great idea.
As I am in Australia I have found it very difficult to work out how to just show which waymarks are in Australia. I have worked out how to do it for individual categories after much trial and error. The 'Help' on the site is not intuitive.
I am pleased that I can have the Maps turned on or off. They take forever to load when I am on my dialup.
I would like an easy way to find other Australian members on the waymarking site.
And I wish it would stop crashing please. :)

If we're asking for pocket queries, I want the complimentary bookmarks so I can create custom pqs.

Re: Waymarking Feature Requests
Add a section on the review queue page for waymarks awaiting votes. If the email is missed then it is not easy to find which waymarks are up for vote.

Re: Waymarking Feature Requests
Since you are asking, how about the ability to serach for waymach by WM number similar to searching for caches by GC number. Maybe add the box at the bottom of the page to goto the next waymark once you have posted your visit.
