Re: Waymarking Feature Requests
s5280ft:After waymarking, I download my coordinates into the mapping software that came with my GPSr (Garmin Mapsource). I would like a way to paste in coordinates as a whole (N42 27.511 W83 41.785), instead of me having to parse them into N/S, E/W, longitude degrees, latitude degrees, longitude minutes and latitude minutes. It would save me a few minutes.
You can, just export your latitude and longitude as decimal degrees and then on waymark page change how you enter the coordinates to that format. Or do it like me and paste coordinates to the short description area temporarily as one paste and then I can enter or cut paste from one place.

That is how I do it.

That's how I do it too, but wouldn't it be nice to paste it in all in one? It would save a bunch of highlighting Ctrl-C, Ctrl-V repeatedly, over and over, again and again...etc. etc. ad infinitum (it seems).
When reviewing waymarks I see evidence of many others doing the same, but accidentally leaving some bits behind (which I've done as well).

Isn't it great when great minds think alike or is it feeble minded flocking together.

All undoubtably worthy ideas, but just a friendly reminder to keep site performance at the top of the priority list.

Re: Waymarking Feature Requests
I thought of this while driving down the road the other day.
There are some categories that feature locations that are available only on an annual or seasonal basis.
There should be a reminder button that can be triggered to remind the waymarker that a particular waymark needs to updated.
For example a festival might occur yearly but on different dates depending on where the weekend or a holiday falls. A reminder 2 months prior to the event in the coming year to verify that the waymark is still available or updated would help insure that the information on seasonal submissions not will not become dated or stale.
I have a corn maze that is only available a few months out of the year. I almost forgot to update it this year. It is my third update of the waymark. A reminder would insure that the database and waymarks are up to date. If a category is seasonal in nature then perhaps a yearly review of those waymarks would be in order as well.

saopaulo1:I'd personally like to see the breakdown of waymarks per category. For instance Waymarker X has 112, Waymarker Z has 100 etc...
right on, saopaulo! um, not that it's about the numbers...

Re: Waymarking Feature Requests
saopaulo1: a rating system for individual waymarks or a nominating system to nominate a waymark for Feature Waymark.
When I first saw this thread, I thought it was about Featured Waymarks (sometimes I'm a little slow). But once again, I gotta agree with Saopaulo on this one. It would be nice to let TPTB know about a particular waymark. This might even save somebody some time looking through recent submissions. Time that would be better spent reading all the emails saying "Hey I like this one, you should feature it." Hmmm, I still like the idea.

Yes, for Neon signs and for other kinds of waymarks that move, like sculptures and windmills and such.
Flickr just added a video capability...90 sec or something.

Jake39:What I like to see is: 1: a more stable waymarking page --- without crashes. --- the country to stay after being added instead of disappearing or giving you "You need to add ... --- the $ amount of admissions not disappear 75% of the time. ---. when updating or at other times (before submitting waymark) to get the next page instead of that dreaded "Error" page.
I totally agree. It happens EVER time I post something. GRRRRR.

Re: Waymarking Feature Requests
I agree with this one. I have to go to the following website to convert my lat/lon to the correct format.
http://www.rcn.montana.edu/resources/tools/coordinates.aspx?nav=11&c=DD&md=83&mdt=NAD83/WGS84&lat=41.495282&lath=N&lon=-82.088556&lonh=E

Re: Waymarking Feature Requests
For the map in the profiles, how about a waymarks posted and viewed tab (maybe as a default) Kinda like the grid is.

Re: Waymarking Feature Requests
The number one feature for me would be to download ALL the locations for a given category.
I travel often and try to keep my gps loaded with current category locations but I dont have the time to look up waymarks in new locations before trips. Therefore, I just want to download ALL points for the entire category. An easy way may be to allow premium members to select up to 3000 miles from current zip-code (that should get me most of North America). The current 200 miles is too restrictive.
Second feature would be ability to be notified of changes/additions to my favorite categories.
Third feature would be Pocket Queries like Geocaching.com

There is no mileage restriction on the categories. Go to the category page and they are organized from newest to oldest. So if you are interested in the a particular category you can start at the oldest and get those and as new ones are added just download those. Might be tough to do the first time through but after that it is just downloading the newest. Really don't have to worry too much about archived Waymarks very often. You can already get the new waymarks to your favorite categories, just subscribe to the rss feed for the category. On the category page is on the bottom right with a rss icon and Newest...

Re: Waymarking Feature Requests
You can also download the entire category in a KML file that can then be dropped in Google Earth if you happen to use GE. On the main category page there is a button for the GE file on the right hand side of the page.

Re: Waymarking Feature Requests
0ccam:Feature Request: GPX files!
I guess I'll make it official:
Feature Request: Pocket Queries! Because I want a GPX of all the waymarks in a category.
Feature Request: Edit Text around Gallery Pictures I don't like having to delete the photo and reupload it to fix a typo.
And speaking of photos: Feature Request: Display the date the photo was TAKEN, not the date it was uploaded. Or let me edit it.
Feature Request: read EXIF GPS data from uploaded photos. I'll limit that request to the GPS data, because waymarking is about GPS. If you have to license software though, then it's pretty low priority.
Feature Request: Let me upload a photo one time, but have it show up in multiple waymarks if I so choose.
Feature Request: "Clone" a waymark, at least the basic fields, (Name, Quick Description, Detailed Description, Coordinates, Gallery), from one category to another.
OK, I can't think of anything else right now.
I thought of something else. Replace the Topozone link on each waymark page with a MyTopo Maps link.Like on geocaching.com.

Re: Waymarking Feature Requests
My number one feature request is a more mobile browser friendly website. Doesn't have to be WAP, but something that works well on a QVGA (200x320) screen would sure be nice. I am often out in a new area with my smartphone and it sure would be nice to see what waymarks are posted / available, or lookup a category while out on the road.
I can technically download pages using Opera Mobile, but this is a massive use of bandwidth in terms of mobile use, and frankly it's annoying. I find it can take me 15-20 minutes or so to get a fix on my nearest waymark using a mobile browser, and I'll burn through several megs of data along the way.
Many new phones have cameras and GPS units built in, which could mean posting a waymark (or starting one anyway) right there "on site". No more getting home and finding out I needed a particular angle of a particular sign.
I'm aware of the wayward waymarking text files but really, I'd love to be able to look this stuff up in my mobile browser.
If the KML feed was made friendly for Google Maps Mobile, this would be even more handy, but that's a whole other ball-of-wax.
Geocaching.com has a mobile site, but Geocaching.com also has Pocket Queries - so it's like they get TWO methods to lookup waymark data on the road while waymarking.com gets zero.

So you would like something like this but for Waymarking?

DITTO! I wouldn't rule out possibly adding a new image to a waymark I've posted in multiple cats, but I'm inclined to think the cloning (via the waymark code?) would be the more useful, thus the one I would like to see first. Matt

I requested Waymarking for iPhone on the geocaching.com forum that accompanied the announcement of Geocaching for iPhone. Before the geocaching app was ever released in the App Store.

Re: Waymarking Feature Requests
The SuzyQs:Since you are asking, how about the ability to serach for waymach by WM number similar to searching for caches by GC number. Maybe add the box at the bottom of the page to goto the next waymark once you have posted your visit.
That's already possible. Under "Waymarks Search" enter the waymark code in the Keywords field. Perhaps change the label on the field? Matt

Re: Waymarking Feature Requests
I'm inclined to think that such feature requests deserve their own forum rather than a thread, but maybe that's just me.
I would like to see some expanded HTML acceptance, such as Ordered Lists (the <OL> tag).
