    Google Map

Being new here and used to the geocaching pages, I find myself wishing I could view a larger map like over there.  Of course, being able to select what categories you would like to see.  Can't believe I'm the only one that would find that useful, but suprised not to have seeing anything posted abou it.

I don't suppose I'm just missing something that is already available?

    Re: Google Map

You can view individual waymarks on larger google maps.  You can view categories of waymarks using google earth.  Remember Waymarking is relatively new as compared to Geocaching, many of the features see on Geocaching were not there when it was 3 years old either.

Thanks.  Understand.  Just wanted voice my desire for such a feature.

I have been enjoying waymarking.  In my first week, I've logged 25 visits (got my first ribbon!) and have 5 published and am awaiting approval / working on antoher 9.

    Re: Google Map

Welcome to the game... hope you have fun.

I'm curious about your comments on Google Maps, so I took one of your Waymarks and did some playing in an image editor.

So...  Here is your WM43AH at the top of the page

    WM43AH-1

And at the bottom of the page

    WM43AH-2

    Gives this

    WM43AH-3

    Is that what you mean?

    Re: Google Map

No, actually, I'm talking about being able to pull up a map that shows the results of a search (multiple waymarks) that would be larger than what appears at the top of the right hand frame and pannable so that if you pan off the map you see the waymarks that are on the newly diplayed area.  This would be the same functionality as is available at geocaching.com through the Map It icon at the top of a search results page.

    Re: Google Map

Ah yes, that actually was available briefly during a time when Groundspeak added Waymarks as one of the items on the Google Maps which showed any listing from a Groundspeak site.

    I loved it.

Then it was removed again, not sure why but I found it really interesting both for the reasons that you mentioned and also to compare locations against items that I already had been to.

Have you tried the .KML plug in for Google Earth?  That works GREAT!  It allows you see all Waymarks with a circle containing the Category icon... clicking it will grant access to the listing.  For cluster areas, it even expands it out .... tres cool!

    Re: Google Map

If you do searches, the google map on the screen will include everything in your search. like Nearest Waymark, and my waymarks. The thing is they only show one page of them rather than a physical distance.

    Re: Google Maps

Is Waymarking.com using a version of the Google maps different than the ones you get when you go to http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&tab=wl  ?  I noticed that for some reason the little one in upper-right of the waymark page http://www.waymarking.com/waymarks/WM4HW9 has the privately owned Grant’s Farm mislabeled as Ulysses S Grant NHS, when in actuality the NHS is the smaller area on east side of Grant Road.  Going directly to Google maps has Grant’s Farm correctly labeled though.  Probably not a huge deal,  just thought I’d mention it.

What is interesting there is that  on the regular Google maps they don't even have the Grant NHS labeled at all.  (maybe the little map knows something we don't with take over of AB by InBev maybe Grant NHS is going to expand Wink )

    Ha ha!  Good one, BruceS.

By the way, I wanted to add a laughing smiley, but did not see such a thing.  Is there somewhere I am not seeing that shows what all of the smileys look like, or would I have to just post a message with all of the codes to see what they look like?
