Any thoughts as to whether this idea would be of interest as a waymarking category would be appreciated. There are two locations here in my hometown, but cars come from 30, 40, even 50 miles away on a good night just to park at the local drive-in restaurant, listen to some live music spun by a DJ, and pop the hood of their hot rods to show off what they've got under the hood. The local drive-in sponsors Friday night sock-hops two or three times a summer, bringing in hundreds of hot rodders and lovers of hot rods from miles around. As the good times start to wind down for the night, each owner feels obliged to leave a little rubber behind on the stretch of road in front of the restaurant, the local "fuzz" always seem to be on the other side of town at this time, (thats where all the donut shops are)...SO, your thoughts and suggestions are welcome and appreciated here. Thanks, PTCrazy.

It sounds like fun and I thought of a couple places in my area right away, but one of them is a McDonald's and I think it's sponsored by a charity organisation that's just partnered with the owner of that McD for the use of the parking lot during that time (and everybody who eats has to eat McD, etc). The other I thought of is a karaoke place that did all sorts of theme nights, including Classic Cars Night, Bike Night, Christian Music Night, etc. On Classic Cars Night, all the hot rods would come out. I don't know if they're still doing it.

Can you describe a bit more what you have in mind?

Crikey, I could probably submit about 100 of these! It seems during the summer there is a "cruise night" in at least a half dozen various places every night of the week in the Buffalo area. Apparently the middle aged guys here can't let go of there old Mustangs, Camaros, and Corvettes.

Sounds like a good idea for a cat PT. I might suggest that the car show be going on in order to post the waymark, otherwise you might end up with a picture of a parking lot.

My church sponsors a car cruise every Friday night from Memorial Day to Labor Day.  We regularly get 800 classic and custom cars on display, and crowds in excess of 5,000.  Lots of greasy food and loud music.  So, I'd love to waymark all that.  I took a travel bug to the car cruise last year which wanted to see cool cars, and got some great pictures.  This is a category that would get an interesting and varied image gallery.

This would really appeal to the 50-somthing & retired crowd too... and those with the car-mount GPS variety!

 

I agree with brother Rayman, photos at the cruise location should be during an event.

I have been giving it a lot of thought, but have not actually worked out the details yet. I would not have any problem with someone going forward with the idea if they want to, but, if no-one wants to "take the wheel" so to speak, I will get to work on it more diligently.

If you get it started, I'll join in.

We're car junkies so we've started the "wheels rolling" on this.  We've been looking for a good category to create and this one is perfect!  Contact us if you want to be added to the group. And yes, I think the person has to take a picture during the show, so no empty parking lots.
