    Groups and deadbeat officers

    Hey all,

what do you do when there's a group that has 3 officers, one of which hasn't logged on in like a year, the leader, only every so often, and the third who does just about all of the reviewing. Open enrollment is off, so you can't join and lend a hand. The one officer who's maintaining the category can't get a majority vote to dump the dead wood. What are the options? There are a few categories like this, I've noticed. Any thoughts?

Unfortunately there's not a lot they can do. I'm in a similar boat in one of my groups and have tried on several occasions to oust the leader, but can't get the 100% votes to do it. Has the only active officer tried to contact the leader to see if he/she would step down to make them the leader? That was my first move, but I never got a response back after 2-3 tries. It would almost seem that this is something that Groundspeak needs to get involved with.

    Thanks Rayman,

Yes, from what I gather, the leader isn't responsive, though does log on from time to time. So there is a pulse, it's just pretty weak. I hate to have to involve TPTB, but there doesn't seem to be any other options.

Yes, I have two categories that I am involved in that have the same problem. Very frustrating.

It would be great if there was some information on what to do on the Group Management FAQs page, but there isn't, at least not in this situation. I'm hoping maybe someone influential will chime in.

I can't believe how often this topic comes up with no response from groundspeak.  This has got to be one of the major threats to the hobby.  Is anyone home at groundspeak?

I think this will be a good topic for the next "town meeting" chat session.

Anybody have any idea when that might be?

Let the dust settle a little on the other site, they did a big release yesterday and then will see when one can be set up

I was just checking it out. It looks great! You know one day, I might actually have to go and find a cache. Perhaps this one, as it's just up the road. N 42° 47.585 W 083° 37.698

Although touted as a "significant release" I believe this is far from the major restructuring that has been expected for some time now.  There is no real new user functionality (only change in payment options) and everything else is bug fixes.  There is no claim to enhanced performance.  It's what we would call a "minor release" in the IT business.

I would disagree on it being a minor one.  It was not a major restructuring of the site however fairly significant changes were made.   If you read the forums over there you would think the world was coming to an end because the location of things changed on a page. (I too understand the IT business Smile having been in it for several years)

What I was referring to is that I know certain key players are involved on that release and won't be available to discuss another chat session until some of the bugs are resolved.
