    Another thought here -

Groundspeak has, in the past, already allowed a number of categories to be adopted on the Waymarking site. This was done without the original category owner's specific authorization.

I'm referring to the time when a number of locationless caches were migrated over from Geocaching.com (if I remember correctly, Groundspeak didn't bring them over - the original owners were given the opportunity to bring them over, and some did), but for some of these categories, their owners never followed up the the creation of groups to manage them. For these orphaned, group-less categories, Groundspeak took the "loosers-weepers" approach, and let others step in and take control of the listing. We didn't even have to modify the original category descriptions as brought over by the original owners, although many did make modifications.

    the blue quasar:
What I mean is that currently it takes 100% of ALL officers to vote out a Leader. I think it should be 66% of those that cast a vote. I'm the only active officer in one group and would like to make some enhancements. The leader (a dearly departed friend of mine) did not set-up permissions. The only way I can do anything is to vote them out. There are three officers in total: The leader, myself and one other non-participant. As it stands under the current system I do not believe I can assume control. Cool BQ

On a personal level, I'm sorry to hear of your loss, BQ.

Are you sure it's 100% of all officers and not just 100% of those who'll vote? If it's just you and one other, and they don't vote, then won't the leader be ousted? Worth a shot, anyway...

Is the Beatlemania! category defunct?  I submitted a waymark over a month ago and have since contacted each officer individually, but there has been no action on my waymark.

The last waymark was approved in that category about a month ago, but this category looks to me like it is still active (most of the officers have signed in within the last month, and at least one of the officers participates in the Waymarking forums on a regular basis, and is a very active participant in other waymarking categories).

Perhaps your waymark has been hung up in a vote. Every once in a while, a waymark goes to a vote, and never seems to come out.

That's exeactly what happened. I check your link it was saying pending. When I went to past activities it said approved, and that some how fixed it.

Actually I have a question about Beatlemania -

Would it be alright if I found the company (Harmonix) that made the Beatles: Rock Band game and submitted it to that category? Also is there any place already for video game publishing companies in Waymarking?

I don't think there is a category specifically for video game publishing companies, but if the location you want to waymark is the company headquarters, and the company is publicly held, you could try the Publicly Held Corporation Headquarters category.

If the video game company is a publicly traded company then Publicly Held Corporation Headquarters.  I would email one of the officers of the group for the other one.

Re: Abandonned Categories Hall of Shame

Well there is one near us in the town of Irvine called "Blizzard" they do the Starcraft, Diablo and Warcraft games. But in the last couple of years they merged with another company called Activision. Together they formed Activision Blizzard. Activision is publicly traded on the NASDAQ with a ticker of: ATVI. So I was curious if that still would count?

Re: Abandonned Categories Hall of Shame

i thought there was a thread--at the old place--of a NEED TO BE ADOPTED CATEGORIES.....

the crossovers didnt participate--about when autoapprove died--and their groups handed out. i know i got a few that way.

i think one category was 'probationed' a short while.

so then, all you need is officers. no other requirements. and as evidenced (sorry math teacher), if you no longer are a PM you still keep your officer status but cannot be promoted in any new groups (trust me, i want to promote him in several).

so then. hom many officers out there are no longer PMs AND are nonplayers?

Yes NASDAQ traded companies are fine as long as it is overall corporate headquarters. (Microsoft is a NASDAQ company)

I would accept it, but you might have to run it past the rest of the group.

Slip me a copy of it with the optional Beatles guitars and no sweat. ( I wish the guitars weren't add-ons).

yea, i saw the whole band kit, it wasnt cheap.

to clarify: must it be the main office of the parent company? or can it be the main office of a subsidiary?

For public corporations it must be over headquarters of the parent  as that is the entity for which the stock is issued.

    Marginally similar.

That's just someone refusing to go along with current thought on what should be necessary in a waymark. How holding a GPSr out in front of the camera proves you were at the location is beyond me, but if he wants to be that anal, let him. He doesn't get any waymarks from me.

The category was far from abandoned.  Two of the officers are quite active in other categories.  I don't know how often the leader checked in but with two active officers it is not abandoned.

my experience is in categories where the LC crossover 'leader' was a 'nonparticipant' and the group was restricted from making changes to the group......

active officers is not totally unabandoned, merely keeping afloat. yes, functioning, but what when an issue arises, clarification is needed, and wording/requirements updated?

I guess I have to agree. There are other cats out there in which the leader has disappeared and the remaining officers have no access to make changes.

In this, at least one officer, very likely more than one, disagrees with the GPSr requirement, but the leader refuses to budge.

Re: Abandonned Categories Hall of Shame

to which i say there is a leave group button....
i can only see officers, but the group says there are 18 members.....maybe he can find 2 with the same line of thought....else where i alluded to the fact that the remaining officers can attempt to play the numbers game with willing participants. at that point the current leader might not have any place to complain about anything on the matter--unless he just wants to make it public; which it already is.....

yes, it seems as if he is the only one not adopting the already adopted waymarking protocal about gps pics.

Re: Abandonned Categories Hall of Shame

I wanted to post my reply in the topic about Minor League Baseball Stadiums (or whatever the exact name is, sorry) but it is locked. So since it fits here, here it is.

Did you ever think that maybe SBELL11 is trying to preserve the original format of their Locationless Cache? When LC were forced, and I do mean forced, to migrate over to Waymarking they were told it was a direct transfer. The owners, now leaders, were given the choice between move it or lose it. Less than 300 Locationless were ever successfully created and those that got them listed likely feel that they are special.

If I had owned one, I would be damn sure to preserve it.

It makes total sense to me that the owners of Locationless caches that had to move here should want to preserve their listings as close as possible. Further, this whole thought has showed me why EarthCaches do not belong here. They contain a required "proof of educational experience" that goes beyond a simple "photo taken at the spot"... and since Waymarking does not allow "email answers to validate a visit", then EarthCaches do not fit with this schema. Locationless Caches converted over however meet this schema because they are simply "a photo of your GPS at the posted" and the GPS was considered proof it wasn't someone else's photo.

    Cool BQ

yes, and how few kept them? how many yet to be converted LC categories are still out there? there were several lists on the old forums.....move it or lose it, take it or leave it....i know lots of people who live in the past in thrir own little way.....i am/was a leader of categories simply for the fact that the LC owner didnt want to move it or manage the category when it got created (ie: autoapprove ws no longer an option)

what about best kept secrets? they require you to have a verification question as part of being approved.....and ive had to delete a visit that ditnt fulfil the obligations--i had to jump through hoops and cut red tape to post the icon, sorry, but you must do the same to log the icon....

but technology has came a long way since the 'gps pic' days.....now when i upload a pic, there are those with programs to right click the pic and see the data imprinted on the pic field (camera model, date, time?), if i read another thread right (the panorama pic theft one?)....
