miatabug:I used this information to locate a couple of
our new waymarks. Thanks for organizing this. It was really useful.
You are very welcome.
ODragon:I looked at the list, especially the page for
Delaware.
I found the strip
here and I have no idea why this is considered Smyrna...
Also, 08/06/04 is
Shirey's not Shirley's. And I'm told the Amish statue blew over in a storm.
I appreciate the list, if it's not hard, you might want to add zeros to the month and dates so that people can just cut and paste the date into the search engine on Zippy's site.
The information I included in the list is directly from the Zippy site but organized in a different way. I had no clue as to why that strip is related to Smyrna but a Google search turned up
this at Roadside America. It says it was at one time located across from the Smyrna rest area.
The artist has a running total of locations the character visits that he keeps fairly up to date on his site.
Real Places in Daily Strips. This list in chronological order goes back to July of 2001. There are earlier locations that are not included in this list.
I dropped the information into an Exel spreadsheet and broke it down by state/country to try to give another resource for locating something without sifting through the list. I would have liked to have kept it on the waymarking site in the forums but the forums do not allow editing of posts so I added the list to a blog.
There may be additional information that I missed, lost, or is simply out of date or incorrect. Unfortunately, it is what it is.
I will update the Shirley reference but will probably let anyone looking for these waymarks add the zero to the date when they are looking them up. There would be around 1500 zeros to add and I don't see it happening with the current schedule. (Note: I did add zeros to the Delaware listings and will add them whenever it is easy to do so if editing other state lists.)
In the case where the statue blew down I am open to having the place waymarked anyhow as long as the history of the location and why the item in the strip is not there any longer is included in the long description of the waymark submission.
We already have
one example like this in the waymarks that are currently listed.
I appreciate your comments. Hope you were able to find something to list.
