We made a fairly large change to the site today in the form of a brand spanking new custom search engine. You'll notice that your keyword searches will return much more relevant results than they have done in the past. In addition we added a number of new filter options to the blue filter on search pages. Please check it out and let us know what you think!

Some other changes:

- Optimized browsing between categories. This should be a lot faster now.

- Added a new waymark status: Archived. Now you can archive a waymark or delete it. Archive would be used for waymarks which are seasonal, for instance. You can always unarchive a waymark, but you can't undelete one. You may find that some previously deleted waymarks have been resurrected as archived.

- The Grid has been split into blocks now. This should help you find certain icons quicker and opens up more chances for bingos.

- Images are now cropped to a smaller size on the waymark page instead of shrinking them (improves quality)

Sean had a little extra time after working on the search functionality to tackle just a few other bugs as well. Here they are:

Fixed breadcrumb trail on My Account page

6027: Waymark unaccessible

Fixed bug that restricted access to WM3M9B

6636: Link to profile on group history tab results in null profile

Removed link to promoted or demoted user in Past Activity tag as it was showing a blank profile. Future updates will see the return of the link to a proper profile

1338: Vote on category in Peer Review retained after a retraction and resubmit of original category

Locked down the category once entered in Peer Review

Hah, it's technically true. If you aren't on the office IP you can't see the site. I think that message should be changed though.

Well first I got the official down for maintenance screen but later I also received the unauthorized IP notice. Had me worried that there was a glitch blocking me out. All is up and running again. Can't wait to check out the new search function.

i only have 2000 marks in 'my waymarks'. i was going to check out the 'archived' marks feature.

no new medal for those above 5000? but i dont have that one yet.....

it appears that 2000 is the max any 'search' will return.....

i did a saved search. filtered out my visits (got a bad request at first, refresh worked). the results are 2000, 80 pages. the 2000th mark is 92.4 mi, however there are a large # posted 'on those coords'; therefore, there must be more than 2000 results.

im sorry, is this the [bug] thread, or is that in the works? am i supposed to pake a new thread for each bug? sorry, its been a while, i dont know what the format is supposed to be here.

I really appreciate that you would take the time to report these bugs, but could you please be a little more specific? I have a really difficult time understanding what you're asking sometimes. I think here you mean you right click on an icon and select copy, then paste into a spreadsheet. I just did that and it worked for me.

This has to be the limit for the searches to keep the site zippy. For some people it won't encompass all your placed waymarks, but you can use the filter to narrow down the results. I'm sorry we can't show you all of them.

I think you mean the link in the email when a vote is called? Yes, that is broken and is a bit annoying, I agree. We'll work on getting that fixed.

Hadn't notice a new grid layout....Now I gotta go look. 

Edit to add:

I went out and checked out the grid. Looks nice but now all the links there are also giving me the same error as mentioned above. 

If I select a square in the grid where I have a waymark placed the link works. The squares that are blank lead me to the error page.

It appears that the "waymarks i've visited" link works for some and does not work for others. I will look into this and try to hotfix it either today or tomorrow.

I do like the various ways I can search my waymarks.

My Waymarks Approved Unfinished (Saved) Pending Approval Sent to an Approval Vote Denied Archived

I haven't been able to test each way to use it but the Pending Approval  search works and was much needed. I placed a waymark just to see if the search worked.   The archived search seems to work as well also and was a much needed search capability. I think I will compile a list in my profile of things that once were but are now gone.

I don't have any denied to search for because I recycle all of those into another new waymark that does fit a category. Apparently I do not have any out for approval vote since none came up in that search.

The one thing that is missing is when a category is not visible yet the waymark disappears altogether if you create and submit one before the category is released. It doesn't show in the Pending approval search.

But how do I delete one of my waymarks? I see where to archive, but how do I delete?

Also, what is the function for the "make visible in directory" checkbox now? It doesn't seem to do anything, but I could be wrong.

There's a problem with the vicinity alarm when reviewing waymarks. Nothing is showing up when there are other waymarks from the same category with 0.09 miles.

Please allow to to gush with glee over the return of "Filter out Waymarks that I've Visited"!

I am SOOO happy that I can once again with ease gather a list of things for me to go see.

I also noticed that you can no longer see accepted categories that have not been made available (like my U-Haul one)... which is excellent! That loophole being closed makes me very happy. The search does seem to be missing "region search" but there is a spot where it might be and a new item of 'close window' so it might be a rendering issue in Chrome. (edit: It has moved to the main search screen... even better! WOOT!)

Colour me thrilled (as I always am when updates are made) and I look forward to diving into all of this over the weekend.

ok, so we are deleting marks that were denied and do not fit in the category: delete is on the right, with 'log' upload pic' etc.....

last night when i was updating me sheet the links would not work. excel gave me a warning box that the site (www.waymarking.com/cat/????????.lots of numbers, letters and symbols) could not be reached.

i just clicked the radio shack icon (pre update copy), and it takes me to a mrks ive visited search in the category with no results--though ive visited several (my own and others).

WOW monuments does the same. Publix too. is this a factor of 'my page', but i clicked to show all icons in grid, not just my posts or visits.

there was one i clicked last night that took me to a saved search (athens, ga, with no results). another that took me to the category page (like it should as if i had just went to the category on the site).

i just didnt want to do a lot of work on it and have to delete them all and re copy (800 copy/pastes is a lot of work in itself)

the 'mines' icon just took me to the category (from excel), however, it is the 'GENERIC' icon the group had before the custom icon was loaded. so it seems, the older the icon, the more it will work.

i think the problem is that the 'link address' is way too long. what happened to 'www.waymarking.com/cat/publix'? i couldnt get any of the random clicks to give me the error message again today. last one i got was yesterday evening just after update.

another thing i just found was a mark i visited had my log disappear (WM5BJX). i have the pic to log it again, but are there any others that got deleted? is there not a notification system for when 'someone else' deletes/archives something? though this was 'noone' (i know she didnt delete my log) and it wouldnt have triggered the note.

opinionate: send me a private message with your email and i will forward the excel file. (when i get back home later)

i can work around the 2000 limit i guess. i will go for the speed over #s.

[add]not that it really matters, but could we search by county? we have lots of other options, seems like county could be one--filter drop downs: country, state, county.

[tweak] can we set the address to not be case sensitive--i got wo www.waymarking.com, click the featured mark to get it's address bar. remove that mark's WMxxxx and replace with the WMxxx i desire to go to. i havent since update, but before they were dead links. CASE SENSITIVE. that other game isnt as restrictive.

[add] any plans for the 'US Map' beta? i have a mark listed in kansas, though ive never been there. i believe its a KY mark mis labeled. if i could go to the 'map' and click on the state and it would bring up the marks posted/visited there (with the 2000 limit, but how do you work around that?) i could fix that one. maybe even have some 'state stats' on the page as well (GA posts: XXX GA visits: XXX).

I came here to report some bugs, and found this note!  I've been off and on all day, so you must have slipped it in during lunch.  Time zone is really skewed here.

Haven't taken it all for a spin yet, but kicked the tires yet.

First the bugs I thought I had.  I was a bit panicky when I could find only 2000 of my waymarks!  I'm really not happy about this feature at all.  Is there any way I can specify a search to return the more than 2000 so I can get to the rest of my waymarks?  It is a handicap having access to a little more than half my waymarks.  There might be other searches where someone may need to have more than 2000 results retrurned.  Seems to me there ought to be a way to make this user selectable for individual searches.

Second, the waymarks I posted today are not displaying in the order I posted them.  No big deal, I guess, but I thought it odd.

Third, my waymark list totals are not being updated.  I added a waymark to a category where I had only one.  The list still shows one, but when I click on it both of them are there.  Several other categories did not update, either.

Now the GOOD stuff:   So thrilled to be able to search for my denied waymarks.  I've got 38!  Now I can revise a few of them and resubmit them.  Then there's a bunch of junk (Whatever was I thinking???)  But, at least its good to see them.   And, I can now see a couple I've archived.  The whole archiving things is a great boon!  And, searching for submitted but unapproved, and those sent to group vote is just so fantastic! 

Nice to be able to see the map again from outside the US (so I don't have to change my location to view it anymore) since I'm working that old backlog.

The country/region count is cool, too!
Wish we could do that within an individual category.

The Grid:  Well, I don't really care for having it divided up.  One of the few things I was trying for on the grid was having all squares touched by at least one icon, and that kind of messes that up.  But, that's just me.  Visually, it is not as appealing.  I'm sure most people will like it, though.

You didn't mention the number of views (when logged in, views on your own waymarks always read 0), but that appears to be fixed since a few days ago.  Whenever that was done, thanks, that's something I've always wanted to work.

The My Categories link does not work at this time and is giving me the same error as the one I reported yesterday.

If there are waymarks that need to be reviewed the little icon that shows will still work if you click it.

Also the My Visits link takes me to a log in page and then the visits. Is this by design?
