    Latest Update

    Patch notes in brief:

    Waymarks and Logs

    • Group Leaders and Officers (with appropriate rank permissions) may now edit waymarks and archive logs in their respective category
    • Group Leaders and Officers (with appropriate rank permissions) may now lock waymarks from new changes being made by the original poster of a waymark in their respective category

    Submitting Waymarks

    • A new "wizard" has been added to replace the current method of waymark submission
    • You may now retract a submission once it has been sent for review, provided there is no active Officer vote in progress

    Miscellaneous Additions/Fixes

    • A new "Grid" tab has been added to the profile page
    • Added a new field at the top of the profile page for searching user profiles
    • The visit instructions on waymark pages have been moved below the variables and above the logs to improve continuity
    • Fixed an issue with the RSS feeds which prevented waymarks from displaying properly when submitted by users with an ampersand (&) in their username
    • RSS feeds now contain images and the long description for waymarks
    • The option to restrict a waymark to only Premium/Charter Members has been removed

    Long description:

    Waymarks and Logs

In an effort to encourage more group involvement and control over the management of existing waymarks, as well as preserve the integrity of the directory data, all groups will now have edit permissions for the waymarks and waymark logs in their respective categories. Group leaders will determine who amongst their officer ranks will have this ability in a given category. We think these changes will provide many benefits, not least of which being that far fewer waymarks will be denied for reasons of syntax, grammar, or tpyos. Waymarks will be approved on merits rather than presentation, which can easily be spruced up by whichever group officer has been tasked with fixing simple mistakes. You are encouraged to use this ability conservatively, as many waymark posters take great pride in their creations.

The original poster will continue to have the ability to make changes to his or her waymark, however
the "visit" logs will no longer be under his or her control. We feel that since Groups determine the
visit requirements for waymarks in their category they should be the ones to monitor the logs. In the
future we will have a flagging system for notifying the Group of inappropriate logs.

    Submitting Waymarks

A new 3-stage "wizard" has been created to replace the old format for submitting new waymarks.

Stage 1: In the first stage you may enter the pertinent information for your waymark, including name,
lat/long, and a short and long description. Once you complete stage 1, your waymark will automatically
be added to the "my unfinished waymarks" list.

Stage 2: Here you will upload images associated with your waymark. Each time you upload an image the page will refresh and you may upload another. You can repeat this process as many times as needed before moving on to...

Stage 3: In the final stage you will have the opportunity to preview your waymark exactly as it will appear in the directory.

Once you move beyond stage 1, you are free to jump back and forth between the three different stages
before completing your submission. If you submit your waymark for review and realize you have forgotten some important information, you can retract the listing and it will be removed from the Group review queue, provided there is no Officer vote on the acceptance of your waymark in progress. After your waymark has been approved, the old version of the edit page will appear in place of the wizard.

All other changes to the site should be fairly self explanatory, but by all means ask if you are unsure of anything. And of course, any feedback or bug reports are welcome. Thanks to everyone for the continued support and contributions to Waymarking!

IMPORTANT: If any of these changes aren't properly displayed in your browser, be sure to force a refresh to clear your browser cache. Most of the time this can be fixed by holding the <SHIFT> key and clicking "refresh"

This is a neat idea. I didn't know there were many cats.out there that I had not added too yet. The grid gives another unique perspective.  A total of the available categories and of the categories submitted to might be a nice addition to this page. Each grid line has a total at the end of it but a total of the totals and how it relates to the entire grid would be cool

    opinionate:

    • Added a new field at the top of the profile page for searching user profiles

This is a nice add but I think that it will confuse some because it does not clearly identify itself as a username search box.

This is great. Continuity is good.
I haven't tried the wizard yet but will try to test drive it later today. Thanks for the updates and for integrating new and interesting ideas Idea into the site as well as user suggested fixes.

    Great Job.

I can't figure out how to do these items. I've checked each page but other than seeing that I can edit content I haven't been able to figure it out.

If  you are a member of a category group, the leader of your group can give you permissions to edit the waymarks listed in that category.  Under the "ranks" tab in the group page (only leaders have this tab), a category leader can give permissions to members of his/her group.  Once a group member has the "edit waymarks" permission checked, that member will be able to go to any waymark in the category and change the information of that waymark.  This is useful for correcting spelling errors, removing obscenities or profanity, or adding relevant content to it that isn't already there. You will also have the power to archive the waymarks in the category if it becomes necessary to do this.

Each waymark edit page will also have a "Block waymark poster from editing this waymark? " checkbox for group members with the "edit waymark" permission.  This function will basically freeze the waymark, so that only members of the category group with proper permissions will be able to edit it.

    Hope that helps

Does this explain why I can't update waymark WM14ED, I realized I messed up on the coordinates and need to get it fixed.  I have tried updating twice and it indicates the update was made but the coordinates do not change.

No, it doesn't explain why.  I'll get to the bottom of it and hopefully have it fixed in a few minutes.  Sorry!

BTW... for doing such a great job with this and the previous Waymarking updates, I'm going to talk to Jeremy about allowing OpinioNate and Bootron to have Christmas Day off of work.

But seriously (cause there ain't no way either of you gets a day off), for there only being two guys doing this whole thing, you guys have done some amazing work.

I am looking forward to 'test driving' the new Wizard.  Whenever I stop lurking about in the Portal Forums Big Smile

The really cool thing about the grid also is how you can now find "New to You" categories that you didn't know even existed by looking at the "View all Category Icons".

Oh I and I really like using the Grid page to look at other people's Waymark Visits and Posted (I see they are no longer called "Founded"... thank goodness)

    Cool BQ

    Re: Latest Update

I am entering a new waymark in the wizard and I think it is "hung" somewhere.  The category I was entering the waymark in was Abstract Sculpture, waymark name is Necklace by Linda Fleming - St. Louis, Missouri.   I have completed the "Enter Information" step and clicked whatever button was there.  Now I have a mostly white page and the "Enter Information" tab is still highlighted.  I was expecting it to move to the "Upload Image (s)" step but it didn't.

Also it was not automatically saved to my "Unfinished Waymark" list either.

You might want to clear your Browser data and retry.  The Wizard worked great for me, but I haven't submitted for review yet.  I did all the steps up to submitting, but I chose "Save and Submit Later"

    Cool BQ

edit: Nevermind... it was fixed by the Waymark Staff.  I was just guessing.

Bruce, this is probably not what you want to hear, but I haven't been able to reproduce the error that you were having.  Can you try it again?  Perhaps this latest waymark post attempt coincided with my latest update to the site...

If the problem happens again, can you put the waymark data in a forum post or an email so I can attempt to recreate the problem?  Also, I'd also be curious to know which browser you are using...sometimes firefox has some css caching issues that cause me headaches.  Maybe there's something like that going on?

I just retried entering and I have same result.  Email on the way to contact@waymarking.com.  And yes I am am using firefox so that may be the cause.

One minor error still remains in the rss feeds.  On the link tag it reads

    "<link>http://www.waymarking.com/user/profile.aspx.......</link>"

    It should be

    Re: Latest Update

chestress53, watch which row you choose for that bingo. You may choose a row that has an unapproved category in it. For example - Click on the 7th square from the left on the bottom line.

The whole grid shows 495 blue or filled Category squares with 5 inactive squares. There are only 444 Categories listed when you click on "View all newest categories" That means that there are 51 unapproved (or not shown for other reasons) Categories hiding in those grids.

My closest Bingo is a diaginal missing 6 Icons. I would have to go to NJ for a historical marker. That's better than a Medieval Church.

And the "can edit waymarks" checkbox is not checked but all the others are.

It appears the waymarking editors may need to edit the editing capabilities to allow leaders the ability to edit. Big Smile
