    Non-reviewing Officers

We've discussed the problems of categories with leaders and officers who haven't logged on for long lengths of time, but I'm seeing another problem of categories where at least some officers seem to be logging on, but are not reviewing waymarks.

I have waymarks in two categories that have been sitting for a week (Land Locked Boats and Specific Veterans Memorials).  Both of these have leaders and some officers who haven't logged on for awhile, but there are other officers who have, yet waymarks are not being reviewed.

In the case of the Boats cat, the leader is listed as an "association," and emails to that address have gone unanswered, so I don't know what's up with that.  The leader of the Vets cat has a lot of other commitments, which I understand.  It would be nice, in these cases, if the officers would really be part of the team.  I'm not sure why one would sign up or stay on as an officer if he/she is not willing to do the work.

Just my personal peeve, I guess.  I don't think there is much to be done, but I can always count on waymarks in certain categories sitting in the queue for a long time. . . .

From what I've understood, this would fall into the same category as people not logging in. The issue that you are raising is more of the actual problem. And it is my understanding that it is one of thing that is already on Groundspeak's "wish list" so to speak.

An issue this large would certainly take a long time to resolve properly and there
would be much to consider in that solution, but it is something that will have to be addressed in time.

    Cool BQ

I'm not sure it would help a lot, but maybe they should add a third row of ribbons for number of waymarks reviewed.  Of course you would want it to be only if you were the first to review a waymark. Other wise I could see getting 6 approvals for 1 waymark. Or worse, 3 approvals and 3 declines.

I felt guilty for the first three months of this year - I was so busy at work that I didn't have time to review very many waymarks.  Of course, I didn't post very many either.  Most of the categories that I'm an officer for have very active officers.  I seem to get about 10-20 emails a day about waymark confirmations, but by the time I check, there are usually only 3 or 4 left in my queue (unless BruceS has been busy posting his own American Guide waymarks - he and I seem to be the most active officers in that category.)

    Re: Non-reviewing Officers

I have two waymarks in the same catagory awaiting review.
    Three officers.
The leader last logged in seven months ago, the two other officers have logged in, but not reviewed.
Looking at the past activity, it seems only one of the two officers is doing all the work!

I sent the active officer a note indicating my willingness to assist. We'll see what happens.

Re: Non-reviewing Officers - What becomes of neglected categories?

What becomes of neglected categories?  I'm having the same problems discussed above.  I am an officer in Vintage Movie Theaters and we as a group are quick to review a new waymark...sometimes multiple approvals within seconds of each other.  Obviously, not all groups are that enthusiastic.
Some of these other "cats" seem thoroughly abandoned and I'm sure those of us who are just merely non-voting members would gladly step up to replace the very absent voting members... the question is how?
As a non-voter, I don't see a way of adding myself to the officers list.  Any suggestions?  Please, I'm getting a bit frustrated when I know I can devote some of my time to managing some of these categories while others do nothing.   I know some of you feel the same way.

Well, this has been discussed at length a number of times with no real resolution.  As you've found out, there is little we can do if the leader is unresponsive.  The existing officers have some leverage, but other than that, the rest can just be locked out.

It would take some intervention from Groundpeak, and they've been unwilling to take any action or even comment on the problem despite tons of discussion on the forums.  There is a group for people willing to help troubled categories, and in a few instances some have been rescued. but, sadly, our hands are still pretty much tied.

I don't know if Groundspeak is working on this, or if they really see this to be as serious a problem as we do.  The whole thing they are proposing about "orphan waymarks" seems to be prompted by the feeling that we are losing waymarks.   That is a supposition that may be true, but I think it is even clearer that we are losing waymarks because of these non-functioning categories.  Who wants to invest the time and effort into creating waymarks only to have it sit waiting approval for weeks?  I think there are a lot of categories we are just learning to avoid.  This equals lost waymarks.
