    Category Proposal: Soccer Clubs

As the most popular sport in the world futbol or soccer is a phenomenon that people truly care about and show their allegiance for. This group is looking to waymark the locations of the soccer clubs around the world, whether it be in the any number of large world organizations such as AFC, CAF, CONCACAF, CONMEBOL, OFC, and UEFA, or it's just a small part of your local community we want you to find it.

Preliminary variables: Organization, Home Field, Team Colors, Founded, Nickname, Notable Awards

This is just a start so come on over to the GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL Group and let's get started.

    Sounds a good idea.

    A few thoughts

There are a few categories that concentrate on sports stadia, (not clubs) so you'd need to read those categories to make sure yours isn't redundant.

Do you intend to include both pro and amateur?

    School/college or just clubs?

Where would you waymark?  The club house?  The ground?

What about clubs that don't have a home - here in the UK there are quite a lot of clubs that don't have their own facilities (eg pub teams).

Pro teams sometimes separate training grounds.

What constitutes a club?  Does it have to be registered with the sports governing body?

I'm not trying to be negative, just thinking up questions you might want to address.

And lastly ... on a personal note do Charlton Athletic actually count as a club, when they are so depressingly bad? :( :(

    1. pro or amateur - why not have both

    2. schools or clubs - thinking that colleges would be OK, not sure about levels underneath that.

    3. where - the grounds they play on if they are a minor team that doesn't have a field for themselves, if they are a little bit bigger then perhaps maybe the practice field, we can get back to that one.

    4. see question 3, perhaps marking the field they use and talking about the team would suffice

    5. what constitutes a club - that's up to the person making the waymark, if they can convince the officers that they are organized and meet regularly then we would consider it

    6. personal note - that's up to you, you don't have to do it but eventually every team turns it around at some point.

Unfortunately no quidditch clubs (very nice joke though) but we are still looking for one more officer for the group before we can get this one off the ground so don't be shy come on down.

How do you waymark a soccer club?  Their home field?  The club offices?  What if the club has several different teams that have different home fields?

    Re: Category Proposal: Soccer Clubs

In response to your question, I think that you would waymark either the home field of a club if they are lucky enough to have one, the field that a team plays on if they are part of a "pub team", or if they have several then I would leave it up to the poster to pick a suitable location. Let me give you an example:

AC Milan is one of the premiere clubs in Italy and they are getting some press because of the David Beckham deal and being shown on ESPN with their increased soccer coverage. Their home field is San Siro a stadium in Italy which they share with another club in Italy, FC International Milan. Waymarker X could make a waymark for the club by taking pictures of the stadium and marking the coordinates outside. Whether Waymarker X could also waymark this stadium for FC International Milan is something that the group would need to get some input on.

This is all just a thought so join the GOAL group and you can help shape this category.
