    Some feature suggestions.

If some of these features are in place then please tell me where. A few of the things that I like about the geocaching site that I don't see here is the map. I can click on the map on any cache page and it will show me if there's any other caches close by. I also like the feature that allows me to filter my hides and finds as well as by catagory (which would be tough with WMin'), I can choose to look for any type of cache or all of them. Another feature that I actually think would get people into WMin' a little more is the mileage filter. I personally like to try to clear all of the caches within a 10 mile radius of my home coords, my zip code and all of my area zip codes. Here you have 3 choices for mileage. Can we change any of these things? Swizzle

    Re: Some feature suggestions.

The small map on each waymark page can be searched from and will show the surrounding waymarks, not quite the same as geocaching map.

You can filter by category, those you have submitted, those you have visited, along with several other other criteria.  Just do a search say by a location.  It will at first show all waymarks within 100 miles of that location.   To filter that by a criteria such as those submitted by someone or those you have visited etc click the + next to filter and you can select the criteria  you want.  If you want to filter by category click the + next to category.  It will display a list of all categories which have waymarks in your search area along with the number of waymarks in each category meeting the criteria you have entered above.  If you click the category name it will show you the the list of waymarks.

You can set the mileage of the search radius on the filter listed above, you can select 10, 50, 100, or 200 miles as your search radius.  Once you select the radius it will remain as your default radius until the next time you change it.   For your 3 search centers you can save each of the 3 locations as saved locations and you will be able to search from those saved locations.

    Re: Some feature suggestions.

I tried the map and it appears to only search for other waymarks that are in the catagory that I'm already in. Is there a map that show's all of the waymarks or do I have to do this 900+ times to find all the waymarks close to the one I'm looking at at the time? As far as the geocaching map. Someone mentioned the older mapping system that geocaching use to have and they liked that one better. It loaded faster and was easier to use. I think this is just one of the many reasons its such a hard transistion for me and a multitude of other cachers who want to try WMin'. You've been waymarking for a few years now so its quite easy for you to figure out and manipulate all of the features that still has a big question mark over my head. Like when I'm doing a write up on a new WM that I'm posting the big grey box on the right covers up part of my text. Several times I've had to hit the backspace not knowing if I hit the wrong letter and re-typing the whole thing. I'm not trying to make WMin' conform to just me but maybe making some suggestions that could make it easier on the masses of future waymarkers that are trying to make the transition from geocaching into WMin'.

The catagory filter is still a bit confusing to me because out of the 900+ catagories I've only seen about 20 of them. Where is the catagory list? Sorry if I seem like a slow learner here but like many others I'm a geocacher, a dad, and have several other things going on in my life. So I really haven't done much searching on the site yet. I like the zip code search but I'd still like to be able to filter out by my own mileage and not the 4 that are preset. Sorry if that seems silly but I gaurentee that I'm not the only one that feels that way. It basically feels like the first time I learned about geocaching. I think its the different layout that has me confused. You get comfortable with one site for a couple years and then try to use another one. I'm still trying to get use to it all. I just think its easier to type in any zipcode and choose 10 miles and hit enter and there they all are. I don't have any saved locations and think it's just an added extra that doesn't need to be in place. Just voicing my opinion of course and I'm sure nothing will change but you don't know unless you ask. Swizzle

    Re: Some feature suggestions.

Instead of going to a category first, click on the waymark tab and then enter the location you want to search from.  This can be an address, a city, or a zip code, or by clicking additional search options you can enter coordinates or select one of your saved searches.  This will give you all waymarks in all categories.

As far as saved searches, this should be interpreted as being able to have multiple saved home locations.  Over the years many geocachers have expressed a desire for this feature.  I have a few because I travel for work and often to same locations, I can then just select them from my list.

The different search distances are set but the waymarks are sorted by distance from the center point thus if I only want to go out 20 miles I do a search out 50 miles and only go through the pages until I get to 20 miles.

To get a list of all categories click the category tab on top right of page and then click link View Entire List of Categories.  See below.

As far as something blocking your edit page when entering a waymark, I am not sure what that would be as I do not have that problem unless I have the window too small then the items on right side of page are covering part of the edit box some.  If this is the case just maximize the window and see if problem goes away. As far as hitting the back space key and ending up on a totally different page, we probably have all done that, just make sure that the text box you are in has focus or else the browser's default for a back space is same a clicking the back button on the browser.

    Re: Some feature suggestions.

I started to go through the catagories but I got stuck. I got through about 100 of them and ended up posting 3 more waymarks because I found catagories to some of the places I've been. I'm gonna have a 100 WMs posted before I even get through the list. lol. Well I can see hours of winter time entertainment in the near future. I've only been back at WMin' for about 2 weeks and I have 1 saved and not submitted yet, 5 waiting and 23 submitted but that's counting the one I posted back in 2006. Either way it looks like I'll have to put up with the site until I learn it a little better and you guys are gonna have to put up with me bugging you with a thousand questions. This time when i posted the grey box wasn't in the way? Makes me think someone's reading my post. Thanx for the help BruceS. Swizzle

    Re: Some feature suggestions.

funny i tried to search from center in several categories and it resets to all categories.

and the search function is not as good as it should be.....

searching for 'person' will not return 'figurative sculpture'.....and there was something i wanted last week....i used a word that meand the same thing, but none of the 50 results were it [was it famous, lookig for historic statues?]......

searching for categories CAN be very word specific. i think this also relates back to the 'search terms' the group included in the cat description. man how i like search engines that say 'did you really mean'......

or maybe instead of 50 cats/tree 'branches' [max] returned it could be one or the other....

its almost as if i feel like i am pressing 'i feel lucky' each time i search for a category.....and then , when they change names (funny mailboxes).....
