How can I post pics in the forum?

I have 2 questions that I'd like to ask but I'd rather post pics with my questions. There must be a way to add pics in the forum. I have a large cemetery monument with a lot of family history written all the way around it but I'm not sure how to go abouts finding the proper catagory for it and the dang grey box when posting a new WM is always in the way. Another one I'm wondering about is a stone bench/headstone? Weird but cool. Swizzle

Images can be added to forum posts using the BBCode [img] tag, like this:

The large gravestone is a zinc grave stone and can be submitted to the Zinc Headstones  category.  I have submitted one that I have submitted which looks very similar to the you have pictured (Mowry Headstone - North Smithfield, Rhode Island )

Re: How can I post pics in the forum?

I could be wrong and in this case I hope I am but I think that big monument statue is stone. I was hoping that I could WM the anchor. If that's zinc then that makes this one a lot cooler. I should be back up that way next weekend so I can check it out for sure. Is there a way to test it without damaging it? I recently read about a glass headstone or marker and I want to plan a trip out to it soon and I'd love to waymark it but what would that classify as? Would an odd or unusual burial marker catagory be to much? Swizzle

I should have checked your link out first. That is awesome. They must have been done by the same person. How far is yours from Northville, NY, 12134. Swizzle

Re: How can I post pics in the forum?

Yours is definitely zinc.  You can tell by the raised letters and if you look at the plates you will see the screws (one is partially hidden by the flower)  which actually are used to attach the plates with the names to the monument.  If you check it close you will find the founders mark, often something like "White Bronze Co." or something like that.  It will be on the base.   There were only a few manufactures of these types of gravestones.  They are hollow and fairly light thus shipping was less expensive.  Most likely the two monuments were created from the same manufacturer.  They are about 206 road miles apart.

Sweet, I'll post it in the morning. Thanx for the help BruceS. Does anyone have any idea about the bench and maybe I should post the grey box problem in features and functions? I also found another stone with what looks like a copper plate on top. Any ideas on this one? Swizzle

Another way to tell, is to rap your knuckles against it. Because it's metal and hollow, you'll get a bell like sound you won't get from stone.

There is an artistic seating category, that can be a bit subjective so I don't know if the bench is quite artistic enough for there.  You could check with the leader of that group.

Seems like there should be a misc. for uniquely designed headstones and monuments. Swizzle

    <long groan>

I know how you feel, but such a category is just not workable.  We've discussed a number of these ideas on the forums before.  How do you define "uniquely designed?"  Like an earlier post in this thread about artistic benches - very subjective.  It may seem unique only because you haven't seen one like it before.  This happened to me in the Mailbox category.  I was in a different part of the country, saw a cool mailbox that I'd never seen - but, found out they were sold in the stores in that area.

Catch-all, categories with subjective criteria like unique, interesting, artistic, outstanding, etc. are destined for trouble.

Categories must have a clear focus, with clearly defined, objective criteria.  That's the ideal, though in many cases one can't eliminate subjectivity entirely.

    Satellite Imagery Oddities

'awsome' is a very, very subjective term....

    readable from above

is very, very specific--but also not exactly easy to visit is it....

Re: How can I post pics in the forum?

Yes I can see where "subjective" can be a big problem. Swizzle
