HTML? Add a pic to the listing
I've added a few pics to my geocaching listing but for some reason I can't find the right html code to copy/paste my img code into. Can anyone help? Is there a quick and easy way to center the text too? Swizzle

Re: HTML? Add a pic to the listing
It is all standard html. My advise is to use one of the various html editors available. If you use Firefox you might want to use Xinha which is a free add-on. Make sure you put the check mark in the box indicating that you are including html in your listing. A photo is listed using following format
"<img src="your photo url here" height="xx" width="xx" various other attributes here />"
"<strong>Bold text </strong>"

Re: HTML? Add a pic to the listing
JimmyEv used to use photos from his waymark gallery in that same waymark's long description.
That was pretty cool sometimes.

The re-sizing thing doesn't seem to be working on the message board. Maybe on the submittion page? Swizzle

Re: HTML? Add a pic to the listing
Take a look at your html on the posting you will see you have an extra img tag and remove the extra quotes around your first image tag. The size works fine here

That is how I do it. I design the waymark using unfilled code then add the photo link after I have uploaded it to the gallery. The only time I don't do this is if I have already crossposted the location and I use the link from the other waymark to add the photos.

Re: HTML? Add a pic to the listing
There I reset the height and width to 440. That seems to fill it out as big as possible without the extra scroll bar at the bottom. Now what about centering text. I think it would look a little more professional to have the text center when typing in sign info. Thanx for the image help. I think it came out pretty decent. Swizzle

Re: HTML? Add a pic to the listing
That's all there is to centering the text? Seems like there's got to be more to it then that. Now if I want to add a slightly larger text do I add the code inside or outside of the center html?
I guess I'll try it both ways just to see.
Must be the centering only works in the submittion page? Swizzle

Re: HTML? Add a pic to the listing
Check out this page. The list on the left hand side will lead you to all the code you could ever need and variations as well. I refer here often. Bruce recommended Xihna. I use it as a plug in and it helps some but for some reason all of the functionality doesn't work for me. If it did it would be perfect for any situation. It would be worth a try.

Re: HTML? Add a pic to the listing
I went on another HTML training site before. I'll check that site out too. I'm just looking for really basic stuff right now. The pic, (which I've added successfully to 2 listings now), the font color, (confusing), and I already have the size down, it adding everything together. I'd like to have centered, bold, colored text with a pic in the middle if possible but I don't see that as being a simple copy and paste. I'm learning. It'll take some time and I think the pages look a lot better with a large pic of the subject for a header. Swizzle
Just checked out your link. That's the same site. Do you think it would be cool to add a video link to the page as well? This would be reserved for the more scenic areas, waterfalls and such. Swizzle

Re: HTML? Add a pic to the listing
ok, how about this point?
'youtube' the phrase 'waymarking'....what kinds of results do you get? last time i did it it was mostly slideshow tours of someones historic markers in an area.
search 'geocaching' and you get millions of results--some are good quality and informative....
everyone wants a good FAQ section. why not make them in the form of youtubes? sometimes words can't express the meaning, where a pic (vid) says it all.
just an idea.

Re: HTML? Add a pic to the listing
May the waymarking video section of youtube could use a fresh video or 12. Something more then just a slideshow of signs. Why not some video's of waymarked waterfalls, funky junk art, bottle trees, some of our more unique stuff. Cars in high places, beautiful statues, I'll work on a short video to add to youtube but I don't think I should be the only one to do this.
I also noticed when you type in geocaching to youtube you get a lot of crap. I saw one group of kids trespass across some property for a half mile only to find a cemetery and a road on the other side of the tree line. The cache was in the cemetery and video's like this make cachers look bad. I'm thinking about using my photobucket account to download video's and add the link to my pages. Swizzle

Re: HTML? Add a pic to the listing
I think in some cases a video can be very effective for a waymark submission. To bad we can't embed them. Here is one using both still pics and video that I did for the Mosbey Creek Covered Bridge. Here is another for the Wildcat Covered Bridge. I think in both cases if the person who visits the waymark takes time to view the video it gives a overall impression of the area much better than the simple still photos. I think it was Team Farkle7 that once made the point though that once someone clicks through to a vid or another site it is often likely that they will never come back. So there are drawbacks.

One thing that might help would be to launch the link in a new window. You can do this by adding target="_blank" after the URL in your opening tag. Your video in a new windowBut I agree, I'd rather see embedded videos.

Yeah, it was probably me. A few years back, when I was living in Lowell, MA & working at the public access TV station, we were working on our website and our boss brought it up. It wouldn't be a big issue amongst those who are members. They'd click, watch the video, and hit the return button or close the window. But if you're talking about people who are simply browsing along and find your waymark, they might watch the video and then start looking for more. So, instead of that person learning about and possibly joining waymarking, they've gone and spent hours watch youtube.

Cool I've learned two things now today. the control+wheel trick and this one. Pretty soon folks will think I am computer edjumacted and will stop calling me ill it er ate. I did have to remove the first " in the code to get it to work though. It at least keeps your page tab open. Thanks.

Re: HTML? Add a pic to the listing
Ok, I'm getting some of the basics down pretty good. Now how do you add 2 pics side by side? A couple days ago I took 2 pics of the Auriesville shrine and I'd like to see how well the match up. Swizzle

That depends on the sizes of the two photos. When they are side by side and less than the total span then you can do it easily.
Otherwise you need to use a Table.
 BQ
Code = (change { and } to triangle brackets to make it work)
{table cols=3}{tr}
{td}{img src="http://www.groundspeak.com/images/nav/geocaching64.gif"}{/td}
{td}{img src="http://www.groundspeak.com/images/nav/waymarking64.gif"}{/td}
{td}{img src="http://www.groundspeak.com/images/nav/wherigo64.gif"}{/td}
{/tr}{/table}

Thanx, I'm trying to resize it in photobucket before hand. Is there a way to add the height and width adjustment to this formula or should I just resize it in photobucket? Swizzle

{img src="http://portal.groundspeak.com/Themes/default/images/common/title.gif" height="250"} gives
whereas {img src="http://portal.groundspeak.com/Themes/default/images/common/title.gif" height="100"} gives
or {img src="http://portal.groundspeak.com/Themes/default/images/common/title.gif" height="125" width="600"} gives
Height="x" and Width="y" can be fun, but you only do this if you are needing to do it, it is best to save the image at the size you want displayed. Notice in the first two examples that all I changed was the "height" tag, and width automatically changed the same proportion...

<table cols=3><tr> <td><img src="http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n35/swizzlenutz/IMG_2279-1.jpg" height="200"></td> <td><img src="http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n35/swizzlenutz/IMG_2280-1.jpg" height="200"></td>
Why can't I get the HTML to work in here. This is a copy and paste from one of my waymarks and it worked just fine. I've tried this at least 5 times in slightly different ways and it still won't work here. Swizzle
