    Logging of Waymarks No GPS

I have been waymarking for a few months and purchased a new vehicle with GPS Nav System.  I do waymarking as a family time acivity.  At times I waymark alone if everyone else is busy.  This makes it extremely difficult to log the photo with a gps when it's mounted in the vehicle.  Usually there is no one around to ask if they can take my photo. I have been logging the vists and explaining in the log that the GPS used was in the vehicle.  I hope that the criteria for logging vists utilizing gps units get's revised on some waymarks as technology advances such as I phones and blackberry phones with gps ability.

Unless there is a specific requirement in the visit instructions for a GPSr-included photo, then it doesn't matter if you have any at all.  I think the trend has been AWAY from requiring GPSr photos, even for visits.  Some that may still have them, may say that only because no one has changed it, but visits are usually accepted without such photos.  And, actually, it is up to the individual waymarker, NOT the category managers, to monitor visit log entries anyway.  I'd never delete a visit log for ANY of my waymarks because of this.  So, I say, "Enjoy!"

I'm fairly new to waymarking and with 114 waymarks approved I for one wouldn't care if you took a pic of your gps or not. Personally I think it could distract from a potentially good photo. The whole reasoning behind the added object is to prove you were there. If your afraid of a log being deleted because of the lack of a pic of your gps then email the waymark owners first to see if there would be a problem. A lot more people will be encountering these problems soon. so people use a signature item. A piece of paper with your user name should be proof of a visit. Swizzle

In your visit log, say your GPS is mounted in your car. Most waymark owners will accept that with a good photo. You could take a pic of your GPS in the car.

Re: Logging of Waymarks No GPS

We have 1 "real" GPS between two geocachers/waymarkers and a GPS enabled blackberry, so taking a picture of the GPS isn't always feasible. We have over 500 visits and not one picture of a GPS in the shot and we've never had a log deleted (I assume the system notifies you like GC.com).  As long as you put some thought into your log, maybe a complete sentence or two (not just TFTW!), I don't think you'll have a problem about not having the GPS in the picture.

    Welcome to Waymarking!

Re: Logging of Waymarks No GPS

There are a few sticklers about a GPS receiver photo but they are very few. I wouldn't worry about it and would post all of my visits without it. If someone deletes the visit forget about it and make a mental note that visiting that individuals waymarks may not be worth your time.

I usually have the GPS photo because I use a photo to record the lat & long but if I don't have the photo I don't sweat it and if others do not have one I don't worry about that either. GPS photo shots are relics from the old locationless cache photos where they made a little more sense as proof for the find. Here they don't prove anything other than a photo of a GPS unit is just a really ugly photo. A picture of my GPS unit with me included as some try to require is an even uglier one. Wink

Lately, even catagories that say they require a GPS shot haven't been asking for them.

Without looking I'm thinking compass Roses and Disguised cell towers.

I like to believe that this could be considered a "Legacy" item from the early days that no longer applies in the game terms of today.

I'm not investing any of my free time chasing down people that didn't provide something that really doesn't affect me at all. I tend to go with "I believe you when you say you were there"

I think the only categories that really need a GPS photo is the Coordinate Palindromes and Confluence Spots

dont most waymarks have the address on the page, so you dont really need coords to find them....
