NCP- Misc Bronze / Metal sculptures

I was hoping to find a category for this guy. Its a large bronze statue that the congregation of the church bought in memory of their priest. Its really beautifully done but he doesn't appear to be a historical person and I'm not sure if he really fits in any other category. He was made by the Henry-Bonnard bronze co founders ny 1898. A nice granite base and the statue is about 8 feet tall on top of a the rock. I'd rather just find another category that will work Square Peg, Round Hole, Big Hammer style. Any ideas on where to put him? Swizzle

    Ayup.

But you gotta give us the skinny on him. Some information about why he's important... and there'll be something since they made a statue of him.

I've had the pics of him for 2 weeks now and only see a mention of his name amongst thousands of other priest. That's the only thing that's holding me back on this one. I searched the company that made him as well and I even have the name Laurie 97 and the W.E. Hennessey company name all on this one and I'm coming up with squat. Swizzle

If the internet fails you, I strongly recommend calling the church office and asking what the history is on this guy. If they don't personally know, ask to speak with the Deacon or the Priest to get more information about this individual and his importance to St. Mary's. Tell them you'd like to write about this and publish the information on the internet. I've seen memorials erected for priests who made substantial changes to a parish... and also who made a strong personal impact on the congregation. Also ones who were the first vicars for the parish. You might end up writing about what he meant to just that group of people... and that's okay.

Re: NCP- Misc Bronze / Metal sculptures

Well he preached hard enough to get his sermon mentioned in the New York times.

A JP McIncrow is listed as a private in Company K, Fortieth Regiment, New Jersey Civil War records.

    DISCHARGED.
    1 McIncrow, John P Private Mar. 28, '65 Mar. 28, '65 1 Yr    Recruit - Discharged at Trenton, N. J., May 19, '65, S. O. 229, Par. 82, War Dept., A. G. O., Washington, D. C., May 15, '65.

Wonder if it is the same man and what he was discharged for?

He is listed here as one of the first trustees of the Amsterdam Savings Bank.

The Rev. JP is mentioned here for a donation to a shrine in New York

    The internet archive has a title digitized that has brief mention of him in the obituary section. Page 84.  The site you mentioned earlier indicated he died expectantly in 1896 and this book was published that year. But this site lists his death  or that of someone with the same name as;
    McIncrow, John Jan 24, 1885
Finally the best that I came up with.

He was the founder of St Mary's Institute in Amsterdam.

You may need to grab this 1909 post card from ebay for a Then & Now photo waymark.

TEACH ME!!! How did you find all of that? That is just awesome. After all of that work I'd better do a good write up on the Good Reverend. Now which link to click on first. Swizzle

Re: NCP- Misc Bronze / Metal sculptures

I think I'm gonna wait for a bit on this one. There's a St. Mary's hospital just down the road and I know there is several different bust in there. Maybe I could find one of him and get a pic of that and St. Mary's Institute as well. That post card is pretty sweet. Honestly, how did you find all of that so quickly. I spent hours and found squat. Should I switch to google? Should I use different search terms? I'm a little dumbfounded here. That's some pretty amazing research in my opinion. Thanx for the help. I'll be posting the good reverend fairly soon, I just want to make sure I do this one some justice. Swizzle

Re: NCP- Misc Bronze / Metal sculptures

Thanks for the kind words but it is really just Google but with some tricks.

    I googled variations.

    Mc Incrow
    McIncrow
    J.P. Mc Incrow
    John Mc Incrow
    and
    John McIncrow Priest.

I did focus on the Google book search for a few of the searches. That is where the internet archive digitized books turned up. You should Google Amsterdam just to see what turns up. There are different settings in the advanced search such as a date range that you can set  if you want to look for a certain era.

When I saw an obscure reference in one of the old books to St Mary's Catholic Institute I Googled that and turned up that he was the founder. Odd that it didn't come up sooner in the searches.

There were several books that referenced him that were not available for previewing but there is probably a lot more information out there about the man.

This is one of the things I like about Waymarking. I like the challenge of finding information and I like sharing it with others.

Re: NCP- Misc Bronze / Metal sculptures

That's what I was trying to do.
    Rev. John P. McIncrow
    Rev. John P. Mc Incrow
Rev. J. P. Mc Ingrow (just in case it was a g and not a c)
I must have tried his name 10 different ways. I've never checked google books before though. Maybe I should have about 3 or 4 different search engines? I know where there's a few libraries and archives and whatnot. I'm kinds putting those off because its nice out and I want to do the field work right now. Once it drops down into the 20's I'll be hitting the libraries more. Swizzle
