    Missing waterfall?

A few weeks ago I submitted a waterfall (Moss Glen waterfall (granville)). Before I submitted it I searched to see if there was already one there by clicking on the waterfall category and looking on the map for an icon. After not seeing one, I submitted it, but it was rejected due to there already being one listed in that location, which is fine, being new to waymarking, I figured that I must have overlooked something.
Even now when I filter the waterfalls category,
    http://www.waymarking.com/cat/details.aspx?f=1&guid=721bd106-4fe5-40f5-8903-2bca766e1704
I see many icons listed by others on the map but I still don't see one in that location.
There is however a properly marked waymark by user FiVermonter and it is clearly there and properly located.

Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong?
Ps. there are actually 2 Moss Glen Falls in Vermont. One outside of Stowe Vt, and one in Granville

    Re: Missing waterfall?

Hmmm.  Well I'm on officer in the Waterfalls category - one of my great loves.

Anyway, I'm not sure what you're doing.  But, here is what I tried.
Filter, the entire category on the word "Moss" and both of these are at the top of the list.
Filter, for by location for United States/ Region = Vermont.  All Vermont falls come up, with both of them included.  Zoom in on the map in the upper right and icons for both of them are clearly there.

Also, when you created the waymark, you should have had a screen showing the existing waymark (I think the proximity is .5 miles now).  That is how I saw the existing waymark when I reviewed it.

    So, beyond that, I don't know what to say . . .

Can you click into the denied waymark and sort it out?

    Re: Missing waterfall?

I am also an officer in the Waterfalls category. Looking at the denied waymark, I see nothing out of the ordinary. From the denied waymark page, if I click the 'Nearest Waterfalls' link, FiVermont's waymark is at the top of the list.

Is it possible that you have additional filtering set? You should have the 'All Waymarks' radio button selected:

In any case, as silverquill mentioned, you should have seen the proximity warning at the time you tried to submit the waymark.

Not if the waymarker filled int he details and just put in coordinates that were the nearest confluence or something and then updated them after they saved it to submit it later. I do this for almost all of my waymarks. Create the waymark then add the coordinates as a last thing.

No proximity will show up if this is the way it is done. I know from experience.

I've had the same thing happen. If I'm around home, and I "know" that there isn't another, I don't bother checking. If I'm not so sure, I will re-check it with the find nearest button.

Oh. Well maybe that's what happened in the OP's case then. Interesting.

This didn't occur to me because I almost always put in the real coordinates when initially setting up a new waymark.

    Re: Missing waterfall?

Ok, I think I have a partial explanation.
What I didn't know is that on the category page is a list of the most recent waterfall additions and it's only these that appear on the map, at the top right.
I still can't explain why I didn't see a proximity warning when I submitted the waymark, but I guess I'll have to pay more attention.
I did read the FAQ,s page, so I was aware that I should have seen one and that duplicates are not accepted or allowed, but for some reason (possibly one mentioned above) I missed it.

    Thanks for the help

    Re: Missing waterfall?

I almost always put them (coordinates) in last. I usually have a photo of the coordinates and add the coordinates when I start uploading the photos since that is when I open the photo files up.

Once I had one denied for one that was posted just a few days before mine and I had even checked but since I am such a slow poke someone else posted it in the interval and since my style of creating what another user called a placeholder waymark isn't helpful for proximity it missed it.

However, my most embarrassing one was for a covered bridge that I posted only to have it denied since it was already posted. I had entered the coords last thing. I thought I would check and see who the new waymarker in my area was and to my surprise the poster was TheBeanTeam. SurpriseIt really confused the reviewer too. I checked out the listings and much of the new one was better than the old one so I merged the two into the older listing and recycled waymark into another bridge.

I had posted it a few years before and forgotten it. Embarrassed Since the proximity check only happens on the initial save I wound up embarrassing myself. Fortunately I am always up for a good laugh at my own expense.

Did I ever tell about when I.....Oh never mind. You probably don't want to hear about going to Dairy Queen while wearing only a hat....strategically placed of course. Oh the folly of youth.

That's brilliant! Never would have occurred to me to do it that way, but now that I've heard this, I think I'll start doing the same thing. Maybe even claim the idea as my own if anyone asks.

    Thanks for the idea! Smile

Not quite the same thing, but back in college (long ago) I walked up to the drive-in window at a Burger King wearing moose antlers, and asked for a carrot, thereby winning the bet.

    But I was fully clothed.

Completely off topic, but I knew of some people who lined up in a McDonalds drivethrough on horseback. One time the attendant slammed the window shut on the grounds of animals and food areas, then the horse snorted all over the window....

Once asked a guy to dance at a costume party. To this day I still don't know if I was that drunk, or he was really, really hot.

    I don't dring anymore

I don't have any interesting stories to contribute here. If i do, I don't remember them.

I have to admit that trying to learn how to navigate through waymarkers makes me want to, but yeah, I'm sure Wink
