    Coat of Arms

Dear colleagues waymarkers, we are working on listing of new category which is devoted to "Coat of Arms". Our idea is to pursue you to find all interesting static manifestations of heraldry connected with aristocratic families (noble family coat of arms), burgher arms (used by famous commoners), church and knight orders, towns and (maybe) regions. State and country seals and coats of arms will be excluded (they are on every state building...).

The manifestations would be static (not on movable objects), not on flags or on infoboards (town signs) close to the roads. Probably only on well defined outdoor structures (buildings, bridges, statues, graves or tombs) and not on metal infoplates at entrances to official buildings...

We will be glad, if you share with us some creative ideas about the proper and acceptable defining of the category...

Coat of Arms for families and personal...?  I like that idea a lot, and not including government CoA is perfect!

That would be a lot of fun!

    Cool BQ

    Re: Coat of Arms

Nice one.  I'd recommend providing a lot of global examples in the writeup -- people might be skeptical of the prevalence.

Looooove the idea! Count us in. There is a lot of it all over Europe but we bet that many Eurpean families brought their hraldry to the new world too. Truly international category!

    Re: Coat of Arms

This is one of those categories I really would like to see and waymark in a future. There was another attemp of making this coat of arms category over a year back so there is a group named heralds. I joined there ,  but we never managed to produce category.. So I hope this new group will finish this. So please carry on your work and idea.

Then there was idea from the heralds group leader that there would be a task or extra misson to learn about the blazon of the coat of arms..Ie. the meaning of the symbols in it. This could be a bit difficult task but sometimes these can be found writen in somewhere. I think that would be intresting to know about. could be optional atleast.

    Re: Coat of Arms

The idea about blazon is great, we will try to introduce it in the category listing - probably as optional field, hoping that waymarkers will try to find some details about the origin and meaning of the coat of arm...

    Re: Coat of Arms

I like the idea.  It was suggested a while ago, but never got as far as a category proposal

You might find some interesting discussion in this thread:

...so after unexpected delay in a category listing preparation :) it is finally in peer review process.
