Help me find a waymarking home for this.

I found an interesting piece of interactive art in Wilsonville Oregon while waymarking this past weekend.

To share its unique qualities I created a video of it and put it on YouTube.

    Where might it go?

I believe this could be submitted to the Figurative sculptures category as it it appears these are all in human forms but no specific human.

Re: Help me find a waymarking home for this.

I started a group a while back called Moving Artists for art pieces like this (and this would be a perfect fit), but it never got off the ground.

"This group manages the "Kinetic Art & Sculpture" category. Kinetic art is art that contains moving parts or depends on motion for its effect. The moving parts are generally powered by wind, a motor or the observer. Kinetic art includes Mobiles, Wallables, Gyros, Wind Art, and other art that moves."

I know there are other art categories for stuff like this, but I think these pieces could stand alone as a distinctive subset, and could be better highlighted in its own category.  Maybe there's interest again?

If you broadened it to Interactive Art, you could capture those audio sculptures from another recent thread.

Well, I guess I would be interested. The figurative sculpture cat would possibly work but doesn't highlight the fact it is interactive/kinetic

I don't remember that discussion can you elaborate on what an audio sculpture is?

Thanks, I didn't post a link before because I couldn't find it.  Now I have to! Smile

I did finally find it.  I misremembered, though; it was a science display, not a sculpture.

ETA: I originally said science displays should be separate, but I'm kind of torn.  I could see an outdoor display being included, but not every display in a hands-on science museum.  There are some lines to be drawn if this is going to be a category (which I support).

Ah yes, I do remember that one now that I see it again.
I think your suggestion for interactive art is a good one. The idea that it be art would limit the category to what the category is looking for and still give the audio dish thing a home.

I agree with this as long as it does not include the interactive sculptures which are in the Sit-by-me sculptures which require interaction.

Right. Those are not kinetic or they do not produce a cause & effect. Sit by me sculptures have a home and should not be part of this category idea.

I think you used the right word when you referred to these as kinetic as opposed to interactive.  But then this brings up the question whether you want to include wind kinetic sculptures in the new category, and I hope you do.

Re: Help me find a waymarking home for this.

Kinetic Art sounds right so long as you're not including things like the audio mirror.  And I'd agree with Bruce that if this is the name, it should include wind-driven art.

Hmm, but would it accept the second waymark ever, Sound Garden?

Re: Help me find a waymarking home for this.

I don't know if the Sound Garden should go into it even if it is considered kinetic.

Then art cars are considered kinetic and I wouldn't wan to see them in the category either.

The wind ones maybe but the art cars no. I would prefer items that are stationary but kinetic.

How is that for an oxymoronic statement.

What about festivals that focus on kinetic design? Yes, no, separate thing, or could they be included in a Kinetic art category?

I would not include festivals.... let them be listed in the Festivals category... which by its nature is temporary/seasonally scheduled.

So Dopey Duck. are you going to move ahead with your idea?

You have a good start over in the groups page.
