    Waymark, GSAK and DeLorme

I have been sending waymarks to GSAK where they have have there own icon. But when I send them to my DeLorme PN-40 they are simply waypoints. This does not leave me the ability to log on my GPS that they are found. Am I missing something? As an organizing tool it would be nice to upload find right from my GPS.

By the way we are new to waymarking and enjoy using it to get my kids to look at things and places; not just drive by.

The reason you are seeing that is that here is not a Waymarking icon on the DeLorme so it defaults the icon to the waypoint icon.   I don't know what macro's are available in GSAK for DeLorme, if you are using any there for geocaching they should help with waymarks too.  For my Nuvi I load them as POI's and the macro I use also loads a waymark icon.

As much as I bow to Bruce's awesomeness, I have to disagree with him here. The waymark icon does show up on my DeLorme GPS, along with all other Groundspeak icons, provided you have at least the 2.5 firmware update (for the PN40). I have yet to transfer any waymarks from GSAK to my DeLorme, but I see no reason why it wouldn't work since I have transferred 1000 caches and they are treated the same. Again, this is provided you have the most recent GSAK beta version which allows for direct transfer to DeLormes.

Thanks for clarifying.  I don't have a DeLorme, it has been quite a while since I have looked at one ... at that time it didn't Smile

    Re: Waymark, GSAK and DeLorme

I dunno... I have an Oregon 300, which I understand is not a DeLorme.. but

When I transfer Waymarks to my Oregon without doing anything, they appear as Traditional Caches. The same is true for EarthCaches, but I don't load those unless my so-called friends want to do one.

What I do is load Waymarks into GSAK then use Global Replace to make them all Virtual Caches. Then I send them down to the Oregon. But I am about to look into options using POI Loader instead, to keep my WMs organized.

    Cool BQ

    Re: Waymark, GSAK and DeLorme

I'm thinking it has to do with the GZAK -> DeLorme process.

OK in that case, make sure you have the latest beta version of GSAK. The most recent public release does not have support for DeLorme GPSr's. I can also suggest to make sure you are downloading the full gpx file from the waymark page instead of the gpx lite or loc files. If you import the latter it may not show up right in GSAK which in turn would not show up right on your GPS. When I get home tonight, if I remember, I'll test it out to see if it works for me.

I will have to try a few things. I'm thinking I was downloading the "lite".

    Re: Waymark, GSAK and DeLorme

Now I'm confused. What do you mean by full gpx file?
chooses are GPX Lite, LOC file or Kml (Google Earth)

    Re: Waymark, GSAK and DeLorme

I just upgraded to 7.6.1.27. maybe that will do something.

    Re: Waymark, GSAK and DeLorme

OK, I played around with all different combinations tonight, and all showed up properly in my GPS.

Regarding the different types of downloads, if you go to the actual waymark page you can get a full gpx, loc, or kml. If you go to a list of waymarks by any method of your choice, that's where you can get a gpx lite. At any rate, all three types show up properly as a waymark in GSAK, as you can see below. They just contain different amounts of data. The first two and third two were imported by gpx lite, the second two by full gpx, and last one by loc.

    GSAK cap

Here are some screencaps showing how they look on my DeLorme.

GSAK version 7.6.1.x does not support sending of data (geocaches or waymarks) to DeLorme GPS', so that very well could be why it's not working. This was a very new feature first introduced Sept 20 and is still in beta testing, so you'll need at least 7.6.2.16. This beta version can be downloaded by anyone, but you have to go to the forums on the GSAK site in order to get it. I've been using it for a month now, and I haven't had a problem with it, so it appears stable. Here's the link to the thread. Scroll all the way to the last post of the second page for the most recent build. Hope this helps!
