    0ccam:
Do I have to put something in each of the Reason fields for a new waymark?  I put "new post" in each one just now, but I can picture that getting old.  Could you default it to say "New Post" if that's what's happening?  Low priority request.

No, the reason fields should not pop up on new waymark submissions. Edits by people who are either A) the original waymark poster or B) one of the category managers will not have the reason boxes either.

    0ccam:
    Meanwhile, I like this:
"This waymark is presently missing some important information. During your visit to this waymark, were you able to determine the answers to any of the following variables?"

    That's cool.

    Glad to hear it.

    Re: Waymarking Release Notes 10/29/2009

    bootron:

If I am not mistaken, these edit boxes do not show up when you create a new waymark. Only for editing waymarks. We figured that in a vast majority of edit cases there would be one or two edits to make. We don't want people to completely rennovate waymarks, we want spelling, punctuation, factual and formatting errors to be corrected. If you are having to fill out too many of these edit fields at once, you may be doing too much.

Yes, when creating a new waymark, either by going to the category directly, or using the "Post a New Wayamrk" feature from the Home Page,  the edit fields show up:

Provide a reason for change (required):

This is the same when editing one's own waymark, or doing and officer edit.

    bootron:

You can still post waymarks exactly as you used to, by visiting the category first. We will look into better ways to drill down into the user categories for future updates. We are certainly open to your ideas about this as well.

Hmmm.  Well, I'm not sure what would work better.  Just brainstorming - is there a way to allow multiple options such as:

Select a Categroy      Create a Waymark Without a Category

    A. View All Categories   B Category Search   C Choose a Category

A = The category tree that is available at the bottom right of our page now

(could be made better, I think)

B = The current category search function

C = The "burrow down" method currently in place

And, I suppose you're right, the load on the reviewer may not be as great as I think it might.  It's my fault that I'm overextended.

Thanks for the great responses!  Once the kinks are worked out, it may be okay.  I just hope I can get some of my own waymarks posted today!

Don't think we don't appreciate the work you do. But you have created quite the load for yourself.

    Re: Waymarking Release Notes 10/29/2009

Some variable-related side effects I have noticed:

Yes/No (used to be a single checkbox defaulting to No) has been changed to Yes/No/I don't know radio buttons. If I make the variable non-optional, it offers just Yes/No, but there is no default. Waymarks posted in the past have this variable set to Not Listed instead of No.

Dropdown boxes and ratings now default to "None Selected".

URL links used to have a constant description (the variable description text), now there is the URL value, which looks ugly for the long URLs.

I got my emails, but they stopped after my Groundspeak Update. Now I checked my queue and there were new waymarks I didn't get notifications for.

I accidentally introduced the email problem back into the mix when I pushed the hotfix. Was in too much of a hurry I guess. It should be fixed now. Sorry.

Why are the Waymarking emails coming from Waymarking [noreply@geocaching.com] instead of Waymarking.com [noreply@waymarking.com] like they used to? Is this by design or a byproduct of the email problems introduced with the site update?

And, by the way, thanks for the responses.

um, five minutes ago i could click on 'nearest waymarks', filter out my visits and download a loc.....

now, when i submit 'filter out my visits' it takes forever, and finally 'all waymarks' are returned.

I thought titles were locked from editing by other waymarkers. I hope it doesn't turn into some edit wars.

Actually, I'm glad titles can be changed too.  I know of one waymarked statue that was identified as the wrong person!  Despite e-mailing the owner and the category and providing resources stating who the statue really was, it hadn't been changed.  So, I like the new update, and the ability to change titles.  Sometimes, it's important for having the correct information.

re: updating unanswered variables in a PM visit/comment:

if someone logging a waymark, and as a PM gets the option to fill out an unanswred variable, uptades one of the, shouldnt it be included in the log notification sent?

    ie:
You are receiving this email because you are the owner of the Nails Creek
    Baptist Church waymark.

Lat34North visited Nails Creek Baptist Church on 10/30/2009 9:53:57 AM and
    posted the following comments:

"By the time I got to Nails Creek Baptist the fog had lifted and it was a
    beautiful fall day."

Lat34North gave the waymark a rating of 4.

    ******[ADD]******
Lat34 also updated the following variables:
    Hours (from XXXX to XXXX)

Visit this log entry at the following address:

Visit the 'Nails Creek Baptist Church' waymark at the following address:

The owner of this log will have one hour from the time of the initial posting to
edit this log. After this hour has expired, the posted log will no longer be
    editable.

    Happy Waymarking!

A minor problem but if you put a zero in front of the longitude in the coordinate search box ie. 084 25.238 instead of 84 25.238 it will not work.

Thank you for all the bug reports folks, and thanks to Bootron for responding quickly with the hotfixes. We're now at a pretty stable point today which is encouraging when you consider how large a change this release was.

Please continue to report any problems you find and we'll get to them as quickly as possible. Thanks!

it said 27. i approved 2. it still says 27.

ah, approving the 3rd mark lowered it to 26.

    Re: Waymarking Release Notes 10/29/2009

Attempts to view the 'Past Activity' for a group, after accepting someone's waymark edit suggestion for a waymark in the category managed by that group, results in a Server Error in '/' Application runtime error.

    Details:

After accepting a proposed edit to a waymark in the Waterfalls category (typo in Quck Description), I tried to view the 'Past Activity' for the Waterfalls group and received the error mentioned above.

I am not seeing the error when I view the Past Activity for other groups.

    Re: Waymarking Release Notes 10/29/2009

i get a edit proposed link, but it takes me to a dead page? is it still in the 'que', was it approved/denied already?

You can review the edit suggestion(s) here: http://www.waymarking.com/cat/waymark_edit_review.aspx?f=1.

also, it seems as if i did not recieve several other 'edit suggested' AND 'edit completed' notifications in the GHM cat....

They DO show up when I go to post a new waymark, straight from the category.
I did it last night, using this "path".  I clicked on My Page, then Waymark Lists, then the number under Waymarks Posted for Texas Historical Markers, showing the list of TxHMs I'd posted only.
The Reason boxes were there, and this time I tried not putting anything in them. The site took it okay, so it was fine.

And, when I checked just now, the reason boxes are NOT there, so thanks for fixing it, whenever you fixed it!

Reinterating the bug report by chapterhouseinc is not online. Last active: 11-01-2009, 7:11 AMchapterhouseinc on 10/30 12:21.  If I search for nearest waymarks (which does not allow for smaller distances than 100 miles as I only want those within a couple of miles) using the filters out my waymarks or filter out my visits, then get 210238 hits and 211508 hits respectively.  And the lists are not ordered by distance away so that I could just ignore the gross excess of search.

Next bug report - or I thought I used to be able to do it:  Upload pictures on a comments post.  Trying to visit a WayMac today, but it was gone.  Have photo evidence as proof.  The comment has a "View Gallery" option, but no way to upload a picture.

So is this situation another inadvertent change?

    first bug notes:
sometimes search results sort differently--yes you clicked 'nearest', but ive seen it result in ABC....

i wondered why you didnt have a pic of the window you talked about in your log (see below)......
i trust your judgement anyway (shoutout, this is not the first waymark in the immediate area, VH has let me know is gone)....

-so then, i use the link to go to his log. notice its been edited to add more text (no mention of pic issue).

-to waymark page, so that i can
    -archive waymark.

[BUG] first click gets runtime error.
second click gets 'you really want to archive' warning. 'yes'=runtime error.

    i cannot archive this wayMaC.....

"Bad news. The WayMac is gone. McD's and Wally World have split this
partnership in several locations. Found the space. Not the "window" in the

    Unfortunately, needs to be archived."

    Re: Waymarking Release Notes 10/29/2009

Re: above post about approval 'icons'.

i have had several others 'complain' about the notes in '[]' before the waymark que. so yes, some sort of icon for 'new', 'resubmition' and 'edit proposal'.....

also along these lines, why not some more 'log' icons.....we already have 'pics', so how about a gps for 'coords included', a star for 'PM variables added', etc.....
    ----------------------
    re: loc files

other that the issues stated above, i will say that this is the first time that i got the 'message' in the file (actually the waymark name) transferred in an xcel sheet POI import......
    -----------------------
    re: edit proposals

the link still does not work (in the few notes i have recieved)

i took lat34 two days to figure out that I was not suggesting edits, they were being suggested to my marks......why is the proposers name not included on any part of the process?

why isnt the 'proposed edit' in the notification [from - to]?
    ----------------------
    re: vote bug

group votes can seemingly still get stuck in the nexus--or at least votes called prior to the update have been stuck.

SQ: did you get that flood of 'vote' notifications this morning (EST)?
    ----------------------
    re: assisting waymarks

someone (i want to say odragon) assisted a mark of mine. however, this happened during the time span where emails were not going out. it has been a few days now, is that a lax category that hasnt noticed it in the que?
    ------------
re: Calling a Vote on a Waymark

when a mark you posted is called for a vote, can we not recieve a note, so we know to keep a timer on it to see if it gets stuck?

also, isnt there a 'icon' for 'my waymarks' that have been sent to a vote? i know prior to the update you had to click to open the mark (with the 'not approved yet' icon) to see 'this mark has been sent to a vote'.....

it was mentioned in the other thread about how 'one cannot assist ones own waymark'.....

    opinionate:
    silverquill:

    So,
what is this?? A backdoor way finally to clone a waymark into multiple
    categories?

    Wink
You cannot clone your own waymark

if this is the case, why does

"This waymark is incomplete. You can assist us by helping to categorize it.
[link to]Assign Category to this waymark"

appear at the top of the uncategorized waymark?
