it was mentioned in the other thread about how 'one cannot assist ones own waymark'.....
    opinionate:
    silverquill:

So, what is this?? A backdoor way finally to clone a waymark into multiple categories?

    Wink
You cannot clone your own waymark
if this is the case, why does "This waymark is incomplete. You can assist us by helping to categorize it. [link to]Assign Category to this waymark" appear at the top of the uncategorized waymark?

You can categorize your own uncategorized waymark, you just can't categorize it in more than one category.  Another user could actually categorize your uncategorized waymark in multiple categories.

Once you select a category for your own uncategorized waymark it becomes just an unfinished waymark until it is submitted.

    Re: Waymarking Release Notes 10/29/2009

    ok, how about this?

i submit a Smithsonian Art. it gets denied (i need more pics)

i uncategorize it. Sfwife adds a pic and 'recategorizes it'.....

i get these emails from her:

"I categorized it and put a couple more pictures in. then I resubmitted it. It is showing I posted it, though and that you assisted. Shouldn't it be the other way around?"

Congratulations! Your new waymark, 'The Florida Keys Memorial - Islamorada, FL' has been approved and can be found here: http://www.waymarking.com/waymarks/WM7JPX_The_Florida_Keys_Memorial_Islamorada_FL

    ----------
so, shouldnt i still be the poster? it is in 'my assisted' search. does it appear in 'her waymarks'? it is not in mine.....

is this the first mark to be assisted?

    Re: Waymarking Release Notes 10/29/2009

I've been getting some odd emails since last week.   I'm getting emails saying that there are edits for my review that I need to approve, but when I click on the link, it goes to a blank page.  What the heck is going on?

Another member of one of my groups is having the same issue - and yet another one got a notice that many of his waymarks were being archived.  I don't think I like these new features very much!

What's with this new ability to change a category's department?

    change/remove category

    re: edit emails:
i have already posted that the link takes you to a 'blank page'--much like the vote called links were 'bad' for a while.
no reply has been made on the subject.

since the link is 'dead', these edit reviews are only accessable from your waymark review que. the new format there is : new marks by time submitted, resubmitted marks by time stamp, and proposed edits by time stamp.

currently there isnt a way to know who has proposed the edits (but it is not the owner, nor an officer).

archive notices? never seen one of those. sure would be a great function though. but i think all officers would send a message before archiving someone elses mark.

    -------------------
    re: change category......

i really have no idea why you would change the category on an existing mark (shouldnt the option go away once approved?)

BUT, for denied marks it is quite handy.
-it allows you to 'move' the declined mark to the proper category (you lose all variables, so if you want them, copy/paste BEFORE clicking 'ok')
-it allows you to move declined marks to the 'uncategorized' section (so maybe someone else can help fulfill requirements to get it past approval)
-as as someone else mentioned, you could 'strip' the info and create a new waymark for another category [something completely different], presumably from a declined mark.

    [new BUG]

ok, it was reported earlier that clicking 'log this' on a waymark you had already visited resulted in an error.

and that someone could not upload pics on a comment.

    situation:
    http://www.waymarking.com/waymarks/WM65XE_Airstream_Ranch_Dover_FL

i have visited. i have posted a note.

i click 'visit waymark'. the screen has the 'you have already visited this' disclaimer.
i post what i thought was going to be a comment.

    i upload my pics.

when i look at the waymark again it says:

    10/30/2009 ChapterhouseInc visited it
10/12/2009 ChapterhouseInc wrote comment for it
    7/16/2009 SM741 visited it
    8/27/2008 ChapterhouseInc visited it

    --------
i do not know my #s prior to this. did my visit stats go up? shouldnt it have then defaunted to a 'post comment' form?

was i able to upload pics just because it was classified as a visit log?

Just a friendly rant at our neighbors: when entering a new WM, why there is Germany at the top of the country list and Czech Republic is not? There are 1844 Czech waymarks and just 1643 German ones.
Not to mention Brazil (3778) and Netherlands (3655). Smile

Maybe it's by the number of waymarkers. I know that for Brazil, there must be only 10 people who have posted Brazilian waymarks.

    Here's a bug I haven't seen mentioned (but maybe I missed it)...

When I click on "edit waymark", I'm given the opportunity to edit people's "private" comments to the reviewers.  It seems like if they're told that only the reviewers will see it, I shouldn't be able to.

Was it a Zippy one? If so, it was a change to the correct state. I approved it.  I does bring up some good points. Why can't other group officer reapprove it? Why do only the editors get a email notification when it's approved and not the waymark poster?

    Re: Waymarking Release Notes 10/29/2009

but the blank page is found across the board: wether the edits have been approved or not.

from the structure of the link, it looks as if you are supposed to go to an 'edit review que', not the mark in question.

but as i mentioned before (was that page 1?), it would be nice to know if it was already approved/denied. and MORE IMPORTANTLY, who suggested the change.

as for notifications. i awoke to find 5+ proposed edit changes. (no use clicking the link) in the que, only 1 was left. however, i had no 'edit approved' notices.....

I archived it because you sent the group officers a message requesting it.

    Re: Waymarking Release Notes 10/29/2009

We're checking on a number of things that have been reported in this thread.

-Group votes stuck since the release
    -The email notification URL
-Multiple waymark visits (This was done intentionally at Jeremy's request, but the *way* it works may need investigation
-Hide private comment to all but the poster and officers

    Enhancements

    -Show who submitted an edit
-Icons for "new", "edit" and "resubmission" in review queue
-Send email when your waymark goes up for a vote

Please reply if I missed anything. Thanks.

    Re: Waymarking Release Notes 10/29/2009

    huh, what?
i did not send a message to any officers about the mark....

might that be a product of 'edit proposals'....that clicking 'archive' initiates a 'edit request notice'?

so, as a waymark 'owner' we are prohibited from archiving our 'own' marks?

edit: it would be nice for nongroup members to have a link to send a message, much like you say i sent, to all oficers 'at one time'--similar to how officers within a group can sent 'mass messages'....

but i have yet to see this function on group membership pages...

    Re: Waymarking Release Notes 10/29/2009

in post 23536 and seconded in 23658
    - I asked for 'uncategorized waymark' variables so that others might know why it is where it is --perhaps a dropdown and a text box for explanation.
    -----------------------
    in 26337
-has this issue, of the edits 'looking' like original text been investigated?
    ----------------------
    in 26375
--what about reworking this paragraph about pics? it seems to give a false impression about pic requirements.
    ------------------------
    in 23678
--what about the excessive clicking needed to search from coords?
    -------------------------
    in 23680
--i have not seen the error mentioned, however, in submitting several marks, the 'rounding' has made one of the sets of coords invalid. i must reenter them. --along these lines, when i get a 'error' message (your coords are not valid), can the 'red' text appear at the TOP, not between 'instructons' and 'waymark form'? thus, when i get returned to the page on an error, the first thing i see is the error note.
    -------------------------------
    in 26402
--the order of the waymark que.....is it to remain new/resubmition/edits--then within those by time stamp? the importance should be: category/new/resub/edits (and those 3 by time within the 'category')
    -----------------------------
    in 26408
adding variable answers in a log.....
must this be the default? it appears that someone logging the mark could fill it in, and it might look like the poster entered it

(in the case of Taco Bell: 'what your ordered' is a variable. if i, as a logger, fill out the field, it looks like the poster ordered what i ate....)
i never understood the inclusion of a 'rating' for a waymark as a variable. I leave this blank. but what if someone, as part of their log fills this out? [note: in these cases the logger will have 2 'rating variables'--one for their log, and another as the waymark variable.....
and if someone does enter something to complete an unanswered variable as part of a log, shouldnt their name appear on that variable as an 'assist'....
    -------------------------------------------
    in 26426 and in 26514
--and i just tried to see if it was fixed....i cannot sort out my finds in a nearest waymark result....
    ----------------------------------
    in 26431:
if someone fills out a variable as part of the log, cant that be included in the log notification, and then associated with that log on the waymark?
    ---------------------------------------
    in 26515 and in 26546
the conflict between visits/comments and the ability to upload a pic.

the bug of being able to log a second visit to a waymark--ie: the disconnect in the splitting of the 2 actions.

i dont really get why this was needed. so that they can be tabluated differently? so that comments (better known as 'revisits') no longer factor into the total visits to a waymark? this 'splitting of log types' seems to work fine on that other site wether i found, noted, flagged, or updated it (if they have many log type choices, why do we have issues with only 2 types?)
    -----------------------------------
    in 26520:
the assisted waymark. seems stuck in the nexus. does not appear in 'UCMs', is in 'my UCMs', is not in 'my assists'

but isnt this missing something? i can see the UCM listing. I can see the ones i posted. I can see 'my assists' (UCMs i pisted that have been assisted by others) but what about 'Waymarks I Assisted'?
    ----------------------------
    in 26529:
    about http://www.waymarking.com/waymarks/WM7JPX

i posted it. it got denied. i moved it to UCMs. Sf wife uploaded the needed pics, and sent it back to the category for review.

it still says she posted it and i assisted. it is not in 'my waymarks'. is it in hers? did it add to her posted stats?
    ----------------------------------
    in 26548
(though i know nothing about this)
the order in which 'countries' are displayed in the create a waymark dropdown

    ------------------------------------

um. i thought of a few more points to make while compiling this list, but they have since left me....

Thank you for compiling your list chapterhouseinc. We're sort of in the bug fixing stage at the moment so I'm not necessarily looking for enhancements, but I'm sure I confused the issue by pulling out those three I posted above. I did that because I thought they would be quick fixes. Feel free to continue posting upgrade requests, I just may not necessarily call them out individually.

Real quick though, the waymark SF Wife assisted you with gets treated as her waymark. That is working as intended.

Maybe it's by the number of waymarkers. I know that for Brazil, there must be only 10 people who have posted Brazilian waymarks.

That might even make an interesting entry for BruceS's blog -- Waymarks by country per capita.

I've wondered that myself as Australia has 1415 waymarks, whereas NZ has 972. The former has 22 million people and NZ has just over 4 million.

It might be a bit till OpinioNate can answer. The development team is a bit bogged down from the recent code release on the soggy-paper side of the site.
