How to control which 5 pictures display

If I upload a dozen pictures with a waymark, how can I control which of the five picture display on the main page for viewers to click through without visiting the complete gallery? For example, I have some smithsonian sculpture, with some pictures showing damages to the works. I'd prefer that these be secondary pictures in the gallery and the nicer pictures display in the headline five pictures.

    Good question.

I have had some success with changing the default photo then changing it again and again then changing it a final time to the one I really want. This has sorted out the photos in a fashion to get rid of the one I didn't want on the page and include the ones I did. That said I don't know if that method works now....I haven't done it in a long long time.

Re: How to control which 5 pictures display

originally i think it was the first 5 uploads that showed. now i think its the last 5.

someone complained of some of my night pics on a visit log, so i think the last 5 pics, no matter the source are displayed.

it would be nice if one were able to choose the 'friends' displayed on their profile (wait, thats another social website Wink).....

and as someone else posted, when there are 'more than 5' pics in the gallery, can the waymark not have more than 5 displayed--as a key indicator that the gallery is 'large'......what about 10, 15, 20? how many is too many?

I would strongly support such a feature (and may have mentioned it before).
I'm sure the concern is load time, but I think that for the smaller percentage of waymarks with over five images in the gallery, that it would be a small price to be paid.  I think another row of five would be reasonable.

Of course we need to keep in mind that photos from visits are added to the single gallery.  In some ways this is nice, and in some ways not.  There seems to be no way to tell which ones belong to the original waymark and which ones are part of a visit.  Sometimes that makes it look as if the waymark author submitted crappy photos!  It would be nice if there were some sort of marker to label a photo as Visit Photo, or Added, or somethingl

    At the very least
, there should be something to indicate that there are more photos in the gallery!  Few people will click on the gallery to see if there are more.  As a reviewer, I try to do this, but sometimes miss it, and other times feel I've taken the extra step for nothing, since five is all there is - no way to tell.   Somewhere, somehow there should be an indicator to show how many photos are in the gallery, or at least a light, icon, or something to indicate that there are more.

There are other long-standing issues with the gallery, though, such as the inability to edit labels and captions, and this one - inability to specify order.  It is hard to plan, and there seems to be no convenient way of changing display order.

there is one way to see how many pic in the gallery--look on the left after then number in the gallery. though this becomes an issue since sometimes the counter doesnt count--kinda like how the visit counter doesnt count sometimes.....

If there's no default, then the first photo uploaded is the default. After THAT it's the latest FOUR (or less).

Re: How to control which 5 pictures display

yes, the first pic uploaded is the default (unless you change that in several ways).

so then, the default pic is always one of the 5 (a good thing),

and the other 4 are the last pics uploaded (be they from the poster or visits)......

kinda reminds me of the bug that time where someone would upload a pic to their log, then that pic became the default for the waymark--i know i had to edit quite a few to remove the 'gps pic' from the visit as the default pic for the mark....

This appears to be correct. The default, then the first four images uploaded. I've checked my WSS entry and image 2,3 and 4 are the first three "visitors"

    Cool BQ

I'm not finding that to be completely true. I had six pictures for a waymark I wanted to upload, one a sign that I wanted to the the unshown picture. So I uploaded the headline (default) picture first, the sign picture next, followed by the four pictures I want to be displayed with the default picture. The sign picture shows as picture number three in the gallery of five.
