Just found out this was going on.  I commented on my photos and will be sending an email shortly.

Re: Find Your Waymark Photos on Panoramio or Google Earth - But Not Posted by You

I went into the Panoramio forums last week to look around and saw several topics where theusers were upset that Panoramio team was not being responsive to issues and basically missing in action.

The promise that these things would be taken care of promptly in their FAQ is proving to be hollow.

Well my photo has finally been removed. Most of the others remain however. I think it is just a matter of time now until his account is deleted. I wonder what will happen to all of the photos he has posted. Will they leave all of the ones that are not reported as stolen or will they remove all of them. Time will tell.

Bump.  I just checked my photos, and they're still on Panoramio.

Re: Find Your Waymark Photos on Panoramio or Google Earth - But Not Posted by You

Mine was removed after several weeks and comments. I can see that the Panoramio Team isn't really concerned about theft as their TOS states. If they were they would have dealt with this user long ago.

I left another complaint on their forum.

Re: Find Your Waymark Photos on Panoramio or Google Earth - But Not Posted by You

I finally reported my two known stolen photos yesterday. It wasn't a huge concern to me since it was only a Tim Hortons and a Star Wars costume display in Disney World, and I saw how quickly Panoramio has reacted to removing everyone else's (of course I'm being facetious). Hope you guys eventually prevail!

I have found some of mine here and there but at least this guy left a credit and a link to the waymark.

One guy emailed and said he wanted to use some photo's in a book for free. All I ask for was a copy of the book when printed.

Just noticed this thread this evening after venting about another subject. It didn't take me 5 minutes and I found atleast two images... I am sure that I will find more.

    Good original catch!!!

Re: Find Your Waymark Photos on Panoramio or Google Earth - But Not Posted by You

I sent in an email after going through his 45 pages of photographs. This guy is truly an international man of mystery.

    My email was:
I am highly outraged that someone would steal my images, and quite honestly cannot believe that someone would do this, but after being on the forum from waymarking.com, I found out this was happening.

Within five minutes I found that someone had stolen my photographs. The honest truth is, what was the point? I would appreciate the photographs removed, and the person banned from posting photographs from your site.

I realize this may seem drastic, but this person seems to lack the ability of originality and lacks integrity that I would imagine your site demands.

Since I did not upload these photographs, I did not authorize paramio.com or goggle.com to utilize my images, and would hope that you can send me a quick response to these issues.

    The images are:

Re: Find Your Waymark Photos on Panoramio or Google Earth - But Not Posted by You

I wanted to share something I experimented with this evening that everyone else may know but me.

This eveing I went into a directory of pictures I intended to edit, selected all and edited under the details tab the Author, copyright and comments adding:

© Gregory A. Parkes 2009 All Rights Reserved

I was curious if this data would survive editing for size, and then the up load to the internet, which it did.

I looked at putting that statement at the bottom of my photograph, but it just looks tacky. Not trying to carry over thoughts from another thread, but in general I just don't want to have a photograph looking trashy that I am going to post. Anyone else have an opinion on a better solution? Is there anyway to protect the detail fields once they have been filled in?

Re: Find Your Waymark Photos on Panoramio or Google Earth - But Not Posted by You

Well the photo thief on Panoramio is still alive.

I have started to get under his skin though. I have for the last several weeks spent a few minutes each week putting notes on his photos indicating that they are stolen from waymarking.com.  Devil

He has until last week just deleted my notes but last week I started getting under his skin and he started responding to me directly. It might be because I tagged one of his own photos in which he is included with something like. "This is what a photo thief looks like". Wink

So he started this week tagging my photos. OOPs he can't delete those comments even from his wall. Surprise

So this is the message he left me yesterday. Can anyone decipher it?Huh?

Animal Hell. I have no patience with you for a nation. Damned. Home base. Buffalo. Bad. Ask you to death. Was not to meet again. Hell. Evil nature. People sin. Rough. Bad message. Hate you more.

Panoramio obviously doesn't take its own terms of use seriously.  Snail

I wonder who will be banned first there. The thief or me. Whisper

well, when you see him on the news, after committing his act, make sure to let us know that he will cease peddeling stolen goods.

i know im hard to understand at times, but i make way more sense than that....

Re: Find Your Waymark Photos on Panoramio or Google Earth - But Not Posted by You

I just blogged about it in my waymarking community on LJ.

That in itself won't have much effect...but if EVERYONE that reads the forums and has a blog ALSO blogs about it, it'll start to show up in search requests.

Then maybe that'll have more effect than what has happened so far?

OK, maybe not, but do it anyway.

Re: Find Your Waymark Photos on Panoramio or Google Earth - But Not Posted by You

    Today he is gone.

All traces have vanished even his photos that were not stolen.

     Sad not.

His last post to me was two words.

    "Animal Hell"

I wonder if Panoramio finally removed him or if he finally gave up and removed himself.

Even if I didn't influence the final outcome I have to admit I enjoyed getting under his skin. Embarrassed

Maybe Google picked up a negative comment on LiveJournal and acted or maybe the Panoramio mods finally did their job. We'll never know but at least the stolen photos are no longer listed with that particular user name.

My next step was to take some of his photos that included him in them and start a free web page titled PhotoTheif.com but now I don't get to. Crying

Great Job! I ran out of steam about a month in. Thanks for sticking in there, and letting us know the final outcome.

Re: Find Your Waymark Photos on Panoramio or Google Earth - But Not Posted by You

He still has a twitter account and 58 followers. He keeps his Facebook profile "private but twittered this FB Webcam photo. Smile I liked this shot of himself in front of his computer with a Huh? look on his face.

I wonder if he took this while trying to figure out what to do with his Panoramio account. Cool

I have no qualms about posting his photo here and using it. He explained that all photos are owned by everyone on more than one occasion. I am sure he is not concerned about ownership based on his statements and previous actions. Wink
