and i believe O was trying to get it back into the 'public' UCM que.....shouldnt i get a notification when he is successful at doing that (ie: 'Your categorized waymark was declined and is now a UCM again' your waymark (WMXXX) was c
    .

But, I think one can just "uncategorize" one of one's own waymarks, so it could then be picked up by someone else, including the original poster.

so, are you saying one should 'resteal' a 'stolen' mark? but then wouldnt it have to go before officer review again? and, thus, create 'more work'?

Well, first, I think it is wrong to characterize these as "stolen" waymarks.  If one submits a waymark without a category, then one is actually releasing it into the public pool.  True, one could subsequently grab it back from the pool, but there is no guarantee.  If one really wants to retain control over a waymark, then don't submit it without a category.  Save it as an unfinished waymark.

And, in the case of uncategorizing a waymark and then subsequently assigning it a category (I'm not sure this can be done) I suppose it would go back for review, but until someone actually does this, I'm not sure.

I assigned two waymarks to categories and have them as "my" waymarks.  I'd like the original waymark originator to have them back, so I might try this process.  It would have to be coordinated, though, because once it's back in the pool, it is up for grabs - if anyone is in the grabbing mood.

yes, but the aspect of the public pool that i am aiming for:

a categoryless mark. the aids memorial. now if you all will post the ones you find....

and how long will it take to get enugh to make a category? if it isnt in the public pool, then noone will know it exists....

we all bemoaned this UCM idea. then i (at least) came around and see the potential. HOWEVER, the 'rules' changed, and instead of 'helping' it became 'stealing'....s

eems like they were changed in order to help certain markers 'clone' their stuff--otherwise the system would have stayed as proposed (your post, your mark, i just 'tell' you where it needs to go)

but wait, hold on, theres more....
since the 1935 memorial is no longer 'mine' do i even have the ability to uncategorize it, to reactegorize it, to return it to my possession?

I am assuming that the 1935 memorial is one that you submitted and it was categorized by someone else.   First the one you submitted still exists and it still belongs to you and it is still uncategorized, you can do anything you want to it.   When your waymark is categorized it is actually a clone of your uncategorized that is being categorized.

The one that has been accepted and categorized you can not do anything with but the original you can.

It would be nice if there was public information on the edit pages of waymarks (ie, denial + cat + reason).  I can see an uncategorized waymark getting sent to the same group multiple times because multiple people don't know it is denied.

IE, if someone sees the AIDs memorial in the uncat list, thinks it would be a good disaster monument, they don't know that has already been tried and failed.

I agree.  An uncategorized one that has been categorized does list all the waymarks that have been approved but does not list the failed attempts.

Even on categorized ones, sometimes I lose the denial e-mail, sometimes e-mail isn't working, etc.  It would be nice if that data were available online somewhere for the way-owner.

    Re: Waymarking Release Notes 10/29/2009

ok, i just visited a McDs wifi. the McDs has been rebuilt since i posted it, years ago.

i click nearest marks on the WiFi mark.

the McDs is the second result. ON THIS PAGE i click 'log it'. = error form.

last i heard, pics were not able to be uploaded on comments, and multiple visits are possible (i have logged a second visit, see above?).

now, if i go to the McDs waymark, i click post log, i get the 'you have already visited' message, and it looks like i am on the post log page. (it IS the post log page, i just looked at the post comment form. is there some way to not make them look the same?)

so, if on a waymark i click post a log to a visited mark, shouldnt i get the same result when clicking log this from the waymark search results?
    -----
    edit addition:
ha, i searched from the map center to find a nearby cemetery to post a log with more pics, and the above mentioned error box did not appear. so, was the box from another sort of error?

    Re: Waymarking Release Notes 10/29/2009

well, now i just had it happen on a GHM, which i was posting a first visit.

thought it was the 'open in new window' process. but, it did not work in the same window--'nearby waymark' results--clicking 'log it' resulted in the error box.

clicking the waymark, and from the description clicking to post a log works.

    Re: Waymarking Release Notes 10/29/2009

I couldn't find where anyone else had talked directly about this:

I hate the message that says "you have not made any changes to this waymark" when you click "update waymark."  In the previous version, if you selected that button, it would scroll to the next page.

I see from the comment above where it would be useful in troubleshooting as you are resubmitting, but perhaps an answer would be to add the same three buttons that are on top, allowing you to go to: 1)Edit Page, 2)Upload Photo, or 3)Review Waymark.  Maybe that sounds rediculous to some, but it is frustrating when you are going back and forth just to get an error, that in all respects takes you out of the waymark.

Yes this is frustrating, however when it happens if you click view waymark and then edit on the waymark page you will be back to the 3 tabs again.

The Abandoned Train Stations category showed up in the grid this week.  Is it reactivated?  Only one of the officers has logged in this year.

The category is Converted Train Stations (E9 on grid).   I think this was released by mistake and have notified Groundspeak.  The current train station category accepts these.
