Spring Update for Waymarking.com
Hit <shift> + <refresh> to clear your browser cache if you have formatting issuesWaymarking.com is being updated! This update is primarily about navigating the site and searching for waymarks more intuitively. It is quite a large change, but all of the functionality from before is still intact, along with a lot of new enhancements to make your searching easier. Patch notes in brief: Search/Navigation- Search has been removed from the map, and is now found on the home and categories/waymarks pages
- New waymark search from home page "[keyword] near [location]"
-includes Ajax search control to access saved searches, region search (new), and search by coordinates (also new) - Significant changes to the backend result in quicker searchers, particularly paging (page 2, 3, 4, 5, etc.)
- Saved Searches now include a link to quickly run the search (from My Saved Searches page)
- New "Filter" added to search results for advanced searching (works on images and waymarks)
- Javascript open and close various sections of search results (filter, categories, waymarks)
- Searches no longer "sticky" when navigating to other areas of the site to prevent getting stuck with a particular search location without realizing it
- Quick searches or "lists" are now basically a customized search which can be recreated in the filter
New Category Page- Designed specifically to help people find categories
- Redesigned department section - only top level categories now displayed
- Entire category hierarchy available in text format for printing
- Recent Category Activity displayed to show what's happening in your favorites
New Waymarks Page- Designed specifically to help search for waymarks
- Most Viewed/Recently Viewed/My Recently Viewed displayed
Groups- Premium Members may now create as many groups/categories as they wish
- Tabs on My Groups page to separate your Officer groups from regular groups
- Create New Group page now contains more helpful directions and a definition
Misc.- Page views recorded and displayed on individual waymarks
- Color coded navigation: categories are orange, waymarks gray
- Site stats added to Home/Waymarks/Categories pages
- HTML fixed for Waymarking Stats icon on the My Page
- Waymarks visited and posted on the same tab on My Page
- Map added to My Page for US waymarkers, international maps to be added in the future
- Waymarking logs displayed with a single link (as opposed to the old [visit log])
- RSS feeds for each category
As always, thanks for the continued support! If you find any bugs, please report them in this thread.

Re: Spring Update for Waymarking.com
Wow! You guys have been busy. I've only looked around a little while, but I like what I see. The "waymarks" tab is a nice addition. I also like the tab function for the searching by waymarks vs. categories, instead of the radio buttons.

Re: Spring Update for Waymarking.com
OMG! The map is an awesome idea! Umm... I'm not sure how it works though. Mine is showing different colors of blue and some in white. It's showing blue in several states that I've never waymarked or geocached in, so I don't get what that stands for. Will there be some kind of key?

It looks like the visits on the map aren't working properly at the moment - we'll work on that. Eventually we plan to have a key.

Re: Spring Update for Waymarking.com
I think the page views will prove a very interesting toy. I've had hit counters on some Waymarks for a while and it's interesting to see what people look at (and don't ever look at). Are these unique views?
When I go to my page, Waymark list and click on the number for my McDonalds (or any it seems) I don't go to my McDonalds Waymarks. I guess I go to my complete list. Maybe a filter or something I'm missing. Maybe it's just me, something I don't understand.

Yes, your "view" only counts once, even if you come back (unless you start a new session). When I go to my page, Waymark list and click on the number for my McDonalds (or any it seems) I don't go to my McDonalds Waymarks. I guess I go to my complete list. Maybe a filter or something I'm missing. Maybe it's just me, something I don't understand.
This is a bug! Workin' on it.

Re: Spring Update for Waymarking.com
hey guys, i felt the update while making my posts today...
and all of a sudden the pages looked different and a note was on the home page....
i saw the maps were quirky....
and the searching is a bit awkward, like clicking nearest waymarks from a cache takes you to the category page, not the nearest list.......and wheres 'hide the ones i found'?
at any rate because i noticed that my banner stopped working. it made it through the last update, however, i could no longer find where they were located......but now its not working......they were cool, can we have them back?
then, also on my 'us state map' there are a few states 'lit' that ive never even been to.....look forward to the new explorations......
sorry if this is OT, but i didnt see a bug thread near the top.....
who knows, i might get around to reading this soon.....

Re: Spring Update for Waymarking.com
The state view should be working now. The darker the color, the more waymarks posted/visited in that state. I'm still trying to figure out how to add the key, which I'm sure will be helpful.

Re: Spring Update for Waymarking.com
I really miss the feature that sorts the waymarks as to newest, oldest, A-Z, Z-A, etc. It appears for a split second and then disappears. So I gather it is still there but not there.

Re: Spring Update for Waymarking.com
My map is showing that I've waymarked in Alabama and Oklahoma, but I've never been to those states before. Hmm... I wonder if I have a couple waymarks with the states chosen wrong. Another thing: waymarks that I've created, but not sent for submission are showing. I know this because I did prewrite-ups for several waymarks in states we'll be visiting on a June road trip. Those states are showing up in blue and I don't have any other waymarks in those.
I like how you did the varying shades of blue for how many waymarks you've posted/visited in the state.

Re: Spring Update for Waymarking.com
Nicely done, guys! Everything looks great. I'm especially fond of the 'page views' feature. It gets me to wondering who's viewing my waymarks that are a year or two old. A waymarker? Someone doing a Google search?
Here's a possible type-o. On the My Groups page, if I go to the Regular Groups tab, it says "You are not an officer in any groups." Should this say "You are not a regular member in any groups"?

Re: Spring Update for Waymarking.com
I am having that trouble with a created group redirecting to the Waymark Home page when I click on the link to it.
It is the same thing the Truck Stops was doing a while back.
I don't know how to fix it.
Help...................
OH it is the Trail of Tears group.

Well done guys, a fantastic update! My only complaint is that it's not Spring for us down here in the Southern Hemisphere.

Yes probably the case. Maybe 10-20% of all waymarks listed in Alabama are really some where else. Now there is an easy way to find your waymarks listed in different states. Click My Waymarks ->Show on the filter bar at the top-> Post with in, pick all dates-> click Change location->Region Search (select country and state) Yours in Alabama must be one of your prelisted ones because I can't see it (neither can you as you noticed above). Yours in Oklahoma is really in Oregon - Timberline Lodge.

Re: Spring Update for Waymarking.com
HTML coding seems to not be working on the category listing page anymore. I just checked a new category I sent live, and a few earlier ones that had been fine, and they're all looking like the HTML code was stripped out of 'em.

Same here. html is checked but none appears. It is just one line after another.

Okay, I fixed the Oklahoma (I suspected that one was an Oregon mark) and then found 2 Alabamas along with 1 in West Virginia in my unfinished list. This, along with you (Bruce) finding a couple of my recent waymarks where I had transposed coordinates made me realize that I need to slow down. I also need to be more vigilant when reviewing waymarks to first check their google map before I hit approve.

Re: Spring Update for Waymarking.com
I cannot find my declined waymarks. They would normally show up if I selected My Waymarks and exlcude my visited waymarks. Now I can't see them at all. What I am I doing wrong? Also, shouldn't these go under My unfinished waymarks. RSS feeds for each category
Also, thank you for this. I've been wanting a RSS feed on a per category basis. Now I can let my RSS reader tell me when my favorite categories have new waymarks. Great!

Re: Spring Update for Waymarking.com
After trying to hack my way into some people's accounts {Sorry BruceS, Hikenutty, Team Farkle 7, OpinioNate, and to a much lesser degree... The Leprechauns and Rayman}... {psst Bootron, can you reactivate them? Take your time on the last two} I really wanted to see this MAP of which you speak, especially since there are blue areas. Okay here is my real question... is it that I'm not the US that I don't have a map? I know you said that above but here is really why I am asking... I've visited a few Waymarks on the US side of the border and I thought maybe I would at least see New York lit up. The other item I would like to bring up is something I hear from Geocachers all the time whenever I bring up Waymarking... "It too hard to find things" now, this I don't understand because I've at this so long but is this improved for those that are new to Waymarking? I have no problem at all, but new people just don't see to get it. Maybe a linky to demonstrate how to find things with a flash kinda thing would be a good addition. BQ
