A very interesting list.  Thanks, Bruce. I expect to add to the Russia numbers in late summer. We are doing a touristy type trip cruising the rivers from Moscow to St. Petersburg. The caching possibilities are very limited but just about everything we see will be waymarkable. The only waymark I've found in that territory is a MacDonald's in Moscow.

I will add some to your home state list this week.  I have to be there Friday morning to move my daughter home for the summer. Smile

Re: Where in the world are all those Waymarks?

Cool.. Ontario is around #11 in the world and #1 outside of the US...  I had no idea there were that many in my home province.

    Thanks Bruce

Re: Where in the world are all those Waymarks?

Thanks for the list BruceS, I can't believe how many waymarks are in the US compared to the rest of the world. Hopefully South Africa will catch up soon.

Re: Where in the world are all those Waymarks?

Thanks, that list is interesting to study.  I'm proud that Pennsylvania has more waymarks than any other state besides California.  There is a lot to see here.

Sometime if I get really bored, I'll ask Keystone to compare these figures to virtual cache submissions.  My hypothesis is that there are more waymarks in most places, and that they have a 90% plus chance of being published.  In contrast, over the period from 2001 to 2005, the odds of getting a virtual cache published likely averaged out to around 33% in most places, the total number listed in each place is likely lower, and the angst factor was decidedly higher.

These are good number to throw at the "why are virtuals dead?" crowd.  Thousands of interesting places to visit, just no smiley face.

Re: Where in the world are all those Waymarks?

    I could ask Keystone for you if you are not getting along with him.  He once stuck me with the unpleasant task of working with CCCouparAgency {kidding of course... Lynn is a wonderful gal!}

However I do not agree with your comment on "Just no smiley face".  Someone tried that one on me once, until I pointed out that I have earned dozens of really cool and unique icons that reflect my personal tastes and interests.  Getting a smiley for a 'ghost' is sooooo generic.

And like you say, the educational and interest level in many Waymarks far exceeds the joy found in most of the Virtuals that I've done.

Re: Where in the world are all those Waymarks?

Well, I did have that chat with Keystone, and he noted something from his work as a forum moderator over in the old-fashioned forum where people talk about signing soggy pieces of paper.

The latest "bring back virtuals" thread was started by a resident of the Province of Ontario.  Using the helpful statistics provide by BruceS and the information available to Keystone, I can report the following:

Total number of virtual caches EVER listed in Ontario, 2000-2005:  70*

Odds of getting a virtual cache listed in Ontario: less than one in three.

Total number of waymarks listed in Ontario over the past 21 months:  1,439**

Odds of getting a waymark listed in Ontario: somewhere north of 90%.

*The last virtual published in Ontario belongs to BQ.  ** Prolly most of the 1,439 waymarks, too!

    Just for accuracy....

Total number of Virtuals EVER listed in Ontario is 70.. well done you... still active Virtuals 56 (I've found 30 of them so far)

And as for your stats on me....

    * The last Virtual published in "CANADA" belongs to BQ  ** Of the 1439, I created 447 of them.  I have two WARmarks as I call them in NY and almost made one the day I met you too Lep!  There was a "Peace Pole" right outside the large barn we were in playing Scrabble, but I didn't want to insult any of my new American friends by swiping it at Fragglestock.

Re: Where in the world are all those Waymarks?

I was at Crown Surplus here in Calgary a couple of days ago and waymarked a few locations.  Doing a quick check on the home page this "Military Surplus Store" looks like number 45,000 and the number still ticks on today.

A quick check shows that in the last 12 days 1700 new waymarks should be on the list.

    Congratulations everyone!!!
