haunthunters:Geocachers are concerned about image. The number one unspoken rule in the entire geocaching kingdom is that you try your best not to do anything that would give Geocaching a bad name.
The physical aspect of geocaching makes it more prone to regulation. This is the biggest reason why geocachers are so concerned with negative stereotypes about the activity.
Do you believe there is an image concern for Waymarking? Not just
from Geocachers who are still mourning Virtuals, but from people not
involved in the activity... from people who might be having their place
of business or home waymarked.
The short answer is yes. We should take into account privacy concerns about waymarking and I also expect at some point that a category could bring black helicopters to Groundspeak's HQ. So we'd probably frown on new categories like "where my ex-wife lives" and "critical points of failure for a nation's infrastructure."
How do you explain Waymarking to someone who's asking? "Treasure hunt" doesn't really work in this case. ;)
I always thought of it as a photo scavenger hunt. I feel a bit like Ford Prefect writing the Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy too, although the entire database of locations will eventually be edited down to "Mostly harmless."
