Yes - I had that concern, and I gave it some thought - It seems to me that two different cultures are involved - those who do the carving, and "us" waymarkers who would show more concern for the living things. Thus, very few, if any "carvers" would ever see a Waymark posting (and few of those would see that as spurring them to do new carvings); and very few Waymarkers would see any inducement to harm a tree for ANY reason. This lack of "crossover" would prevent any trees being harmed by the existence of the category. Also - as mentioned, the category would prohibit any new damage to trees for the purpose of creating a WM. Just an idea; Thanks for the discussion.
