I have spent a week visiting the former capital of Siam, the city of Ayutthaya, in central Thailand. There I of course waymarked, wandered around taking snaps, visiting places, and talking to people. I met one elderly Thai guy, who spent twenty years in the US of A, thus his English was passable. He lamented to me how much Thai women had changed. Once upon a time they were meek and demure, now they are outspoken and want to be equal to men—except when it comes to paying the bills.
However, I also spoke to some young (early 20s) Dutch backpacker lads. I met them while viewing the temple ruins. I don't object to young people, I will even communicate with them.
They both commented on how much gear I was carrying. I explained what I was doing, thus I thought I should list my appearance here and see if anyone can compare.
When waymarking I walk around with:
i. a lanyard around my neck with my iphone (gps) and my glasses case (dark v normal specs) attached.
ii. DSLR slung around my neck.
iii. backpack
iv. Cambodian silk scarf around my neck (scarf = long story, gift from a lady).
v. crocodile teeth hat (from the land down under).
(My ambition is to die at age 99, at the hands of an outraged husband, not from skin cancer.)
Is this too much?
