    GWOS Ground Water Observation Stations

There are many of these strategically placed information gathering devices around Winnipeg, which is located at a central point on the Hudson Bay watershed and drainage basin, and recently has been subjected to severe flooding. These units are all numbered and are monitored by Manitoba Water Stewardship. GWOS collect data pertaining to ground water levels. There are two types: one is a small silo-like structure of about 6 ft. These were installed in the 1960s. The newer type is a metal box on a pole which were installed in the 1990s. Geocachers had been using these as hiding places for small magnetic containers, and this is how they came to my attention. I tried to waymark these as weather stations, as I could not find an appropriate category, but my applications were refused. I would like to establish a new category for GWOS.
