    Magazine Covers?

    How about Magazine cover locations?

I was at an antique shop this weekend that said they have been on the cover of "Country Living" twice, and it got me thinking it might make an iteresting category.

    Re: Magazine Covers?

This month's Sunset magazine features a scene on the California coast - there's a waterfall there that dumps straight into the ocean - Bernd das Brot has that waymarked in a couple of categories and I featured his photo of it on Wayward awhile back.  Julia something State Park?  I was meaning to post something about it in the forums but forgot.

    Interesting category idea.

would it be for things on the main cover or the upper blurb section of the cover.

I'd suggest that it be places pictured on the magazine cover.  If there are multiple pictures, then that particular cover could have multiple waymarks associated with it.

    Re: Magazine Covers?

Would these be national magazines or would regional and trade magazines be allowed as well?

What about real estate magazines? If you do not exlude those some folks will have waymarks for every cover home in their area. Devil

    Re: Magazine Covers?

So would a requirement be to submit a picture of the cover as well as pictures you took?
    Would this violate any copyrights?

National Geographic is global and has been in circulation for years. It could almost be a category to itself!

If  they were current national or international magazines it would probably have to be first come first served on posting waymarks.. That would make it a game of sorts wouldn't it?

    Just some thoughts. Big Smile

I like the idea. I agree it should be a subscription-based magazine cover not a real estate guide or other freebie zine.

There are a lot of National Geographic magazines but I don't think they should necessarily be excluded.

    Re: Magazine Covers?

Yes - include NG.  I subscribe to NG, and a good chunk of the covers are portraits, picks of animals, etc.

What about creating the category so it is similar to the "Photos: Now and Then" or the "Ansel Adams" categories?  The photo you take of the place would need to be taken from the same (or nearly the same) spot.  Just a fun twist, and easier for officers to know that it's the same spot. I think Opinionate may have suggested this earlier in the thread, but can't remember.  If he did, he got the idea from me. Wink

And no, taking a photograph of a magazine cover  is not a copyright issue.  I think that our friendly, Canadian copyright specialist posted something about photographs of art, etc. on another thread about that.
