I just read about this project and I think it deserves a waymark category:
In 1993, a Munich artist, Gunter Demnig, started a project honoring people deported and killed during the Holocaust in concentration camps and extermination camps. He manufactures concrete cubes of 4x4 inches which he covers with a sheet of brass. He then addes the writing "Hier wohnte" (Here lived), the name, year of birth and the fate: mostly the date of deportation and of death. The stone is then put down flush in the pavement/sidewalk in front of the last residence of the victim.
By now, there are more than 800 of those little stumbling blocks in over 300 cities in Germany, Austria, Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic and The Netherlands. you can read more about it in English at wikipedia and in German at the Stolperstein Homepage.
I think this project deserves a waymark and I think it should be managed by one of our fellow German waymarkers, which is why I add a German translation:

Ich habe gerade ueber dieses wirklich interessante Projekt des Muenchener Kuenstlers Gunter Demnig gelesen. Demnig schafft "Stolpersteine", kleine, messingbeschlagene Pflastersteine zum Gedenken an Holcaust Opfer. Die Steine werden vor der letzten Wohnung eines Opfers in den Buergersteig eingelassen. Mittleweile gibt es mehr als 800 dieser Stolpersteine in ueber 300 Staedten in Deutschland, Oesterreich, Polen, Ungarn, Tschechien und den Niederlanden. Ich finde, die Idee verdient ein waymark. Und wenn Ihr der gleichen Meinung seid, finde ich das ganze sollte von einem in Deutschland lebenden Waymarker gemanaged werden. Ich lebe in Kalifornien und bin gern bei Uebersetzungen behilflich.
