    Gauging Interests in anew Category

While doing research for a waymarking  recent trip we were on I found that a category I had been interested for some time was really quite well documented online.  The category would be defunct amusement parks. These are widely documented worldwide through wikipedia and I found 3 or 4 other sites as well. I thought this might be a bit of a nostalgic type category to look back and remeber what used to be here.

To post you would have to have some type of picture, web link,or internet documentation for verfication as well as a current use photo ect. I am just now starting the group and kicking the idea around so comments are welcome please.

The defunct Amusement Park Managers Group is now forming. Enrollment is open for anyone wishing to join and help out as officers.
    Thanks

Not meant to you in particular but as a general request as many times there will be posts asking for this or that or asking for 'Officers for a Category' or just looking for some information.

If the links are added it means just a click and no searching needed ........ Wink

    Abandoned Clown Train remembers you!

Sounds like a cool category!  I love urban ruins.  The town I live in used to be primarily an amusement park, with a train coming here from Detroit and then boats to take people to different attractions on the lake.  Unfortunately, I don't know of any remains, other than a few street names.

There is a minigolf course near me where, back in the woods, the remains of some old holes that were discontinued in a redesign years ago still loom.  It's creepy!  Would that fit the category, or are you looking more for ride-type attractions (not to mention the fact the the place is still running, just not those holes)?

When you make a forum post you copy the desired URL using a right click of your mouse. Select copy in the drop down menu that appears.

Next, type in whatever text you want to be the link text in the forum message. Highlight the text you enter.

Now look just above the box you are entering your message in. This has some options for you to use if you wish. You are looking for the symbol that has a chain link design in it. Select this and a dialog box will show up. Paste your URL into the box and the text you highlighted becomes a link.

Re: Gauging Interests in anew Category

Here is my version (for to-day)

As you are reading this page - depress left button on the mouse behind -->http://portal.groundspeak.com/forums/AddPost.aspx?PostID=15622<-- on top of the page dragging it to the left, until it turns blue .Then right click   on "Copy"
.... then click on reply (or post new message) until the "Compose" box  opens.

Look below, where it says   "Design" & "HTML" click on HTML & type the code posted in red <a href="http://portal.groundspeak.com/forums/AddPost.aspx?PostID=15622">(and add the words) Top of previous page </a>.. or a name for the link. (don't forget to add the </a> to close the link description)
Place your cursor between the red highlighted printing    and right click & hit "Paste"
The blue part is what you saved before with your mouse "Copy" click.

--- Maybe someone else can explain an easier way Confused

Re: Gauging Interests in anew Category

This will be a fun one.

I looked it over. The first database you linked to is pretty raw and filled with inconsistencies (for our area at least). I sent them some corrections and links. This category will eventually be a resource for them rather than the other way around. I found Wikipedias list more global and helpful.

    Some interesting links I found.

    Dark Roasted Blend
    Neatorama
    PDX History
    Standing But Not Operating

Edit to add that I hope all of the variables are not required. Some locations will not have easily accessible open dates, etc.

Another thing that is difficult is the use of the date box that forces you to enter mm/dd/yy. If I know that a park opened in 1950 or 1951 but cannot find the exact date I would rather put in "The park opened sometime in the early fifties" in a short text box instead of the forced incorrect date that is required by the variable.

Also the address variable should be optional in my thinking. Of the two locations nearby that have closed I know that one is an empty field with no current address.
