    Category Peer Review Question

Once a category has reached the end of it's peer review period, how long does it take to find out the results.  My "Maritime Monuments & Memorials" category was supposed to run through early this morning, but I see no indication as to the results.

Also, is it a simple majority vote for approval?  I read the "How Peer Review Works" blurb, but it did not specify.

    Thanks,

    Re: Category Peer Review Question

Once a category is done in Peer Review, it goes in for a final Groundspeak review. Once it's gotten Groundspeak's blessing, you'll receive an email telling you that your category has been approved. At that time, you can go back to your category, make it visible in the directory, and so on.

Once the staff is able to fix the Peer Review Comments problem, you'll be able to follow the link provided in the Approved email that will give you all the comments made by other waymarkers who have voted on the category.

All what Elle said.  Usually Groundspeak reviews a bunch at a time thus it may take a couple days.

It is not a simple majority but more like about two-thirds or better to pass.

    Re: Category Peer Review Question

Thanks.  Thought it might be a super-majority, but couldn't find anything that specified it.

If it had failed the peer review, would it still go to GS or would I get something on that?

    Re: Category Peer Review Question

They all go to Groundspeak and they make the final call and you will get something no matter what.

"Maritime Monuments & Memorials" sounds like what I am looking for as a category for my new submission which is a monument to Roald Amundsen in San Francisco.

How about Antarctic Points of Interest?  That category could use another waymark.

The memorial is for Amundsen's Northwest Passage exploration and marks the place where his ship the Gjol was put as an attraction for many years. It includes a bronze relief of Anundsen, and a plaque, on a pillar, commerating that voyage.

I'm fine submitting to the Antarctic category if you want to accept it there. I'm sure people know Amundsen for his Antarctic exploration.

Email the leader of that group and ask him if it is acceptable there.

Actually, I just posted to that point in the other thread...

It sounds like this would fit with the new Maritime Monuments & Memorials category.

Glad to see my new category is getting some good submissions, already.

    Re: Category Peer Review Question

Every premium member gets to vote, correct? Are there just none to vote on or where do I go to vote? I looked at "Requiring Review" but nothing to review there.

Also, while I'm asking questions, I've joined a couple groups. I'm not an officer. Is there anything for me to do like review or just be one of the indians?

Premium Members can only vote when a Category is in Peer Review. Currently, there are no categories in Peer Review to be voted on. There might be some coming up soon. Usually, when you come to Waymarking.com and there's a new category waiting in Peer Review, a little icon will appear next to "Requiring Review."

The Leader of a Group has to promote a Regular Member to an Officer Status. Once you are an Officer, you can review Waymarks and participate in Group Votes. Groups must have a minimum of three officers, including the leader, to create a Category or keep a Category active. Sometimes Regular Members are included on Group Messages, which are emails sent to members of the Group. If there is a request for input about making changes to a Category or if changes have been made to a Category, Regular Members can be included in this process.

    Re: Category Peer Review Question

If you want to be more active get involved in a proposal discussion early on and show interest in the category and offer to help. This is and creating your own category are the two quickest ways to become more involved as an officer.  Note I said quickest ways not necessarily easy ways.

I have a proposal in the works and if you are interested I will send you an invite to be part of the group. My proposals take a long time to get off the ground but I am pretty close to getting this one up and going.
