The two I can think of are off leash dog areas and wi-fi.

    Are there others?

    Re: No Photo Categories

While I cannot think of any, I wouldn't notice because I always include one.

Ever since Waymarking 2.0 was launched with the new layout, the image became critical to me. So much so that I consider it an unstated requirement much like coordinates are required.

Every now and again, I find myself out without a camera. I thought it might be nice to have a mental list of places where I could still contribute.

The empty photo hole could be filled with a graphic or a sign from another location if the photo wasn't a requirement.

    Re: No Photo Categories

I was just thinking of a couple categories that would benefit from having the picture requirement removed.

The types would be things that aren't 'inventoried' in google, and one doesn't look that much different from another.

My examples would be Tennis Courts and Basketball courts. They are both worthy categories. If you want to find a Tennis Court, an accurate inventory on Waymarking.com would be very valuable to have. It's not available anywhere else (that I know of). I just cannot excite myself over taking and uploading pictures of them (very often). If they removed the photo requirement, I would pop coords and upload the park name and location much more often. In the end the category would be more valuable without a photo requirement. There could even be a default graphic to fill in the hole and make the page prettier if there wasn't a photo.

After just reading a few other threads the fist thing that came to mind was McDonalds  LOL I mean how many diiferent pictures can you take of a Mc D's????? Understand that Im responding to this withut even checking to see what the req. are for that cat (Because I wouldnt do 1 myself)

Im thinking that everyone has their pet peeves for pics. My personal thing is 'if solo a pic w/ your gps.' usually I just forget. I am almost always solo & when I shoot I always try to get something a little different than the usual face front shot & Im busy with that rather than worrying about if my gps is in the pic. Or Im busy messing with my lenses (I often still use my old but trusty 35mm) & dont have the extra hand.

The main point about McDonalds is that there is already a complete inventory on Google, or Yellowpages.com, etc. so just recording a location isn't adding any value, and you need to add a photo to have any sort of an incremental difference from a previous inventory.

My thought is that there are cats where the inventory itself is the value, and we are missing a potential by making not making posting a new waymark easier.

It's possible. I see what you're saying with the earlier mention of basketball courts.

I don't mind making special trips for photos, but I can see where that would be bothersome for someone else. But since I really like seeing photos, even for wi-fi and dog parks, I hope it doesn't stop becoming a requirement.

Totally agreed. I particularly like the photography aspect of the game, and seeing all the "default photos" when browsing waymarks on the site.
