Here are the comments
from the peer review of Zippy The Pinheads category. No real rude remarks. Overall a good review.
Yes votes first. Nay votes second.
Thanks to all.

“What kind of twisted mind would think up this kind of drivel? Who then would
attempt to create a waymark category around it? Me. TheBeanTeam”
Yes, a bit sick and
twisted (quoted myself because I think I am mildly funny on occasion) I amuse
myself anyway
“Sure looks like it will cross a lot of territory.”
Yes I think it will
and for those playing it will be fun to
“Why of
course...and for my favorite Zippy-Quote of the day: "Look! A ladder!
Maybe it leads to heaven, or a sandwich. " :) “
I was amazed when I found out this strip
was the source of the oft used “are we having fun yet” There are a few other zippyisms
out there that make for good quotes as well.
“Freakin' A! “
You calling me names?
“I'll just trust that you know what you are doing and assume this is some
aspect of Americanism that appeals to people. “
Likely I do not know
what I am doing. I wanted to create something out of the ordinary to balance
out the vanilla categories. The Zippy cat is more of a strawberry swirl cat.
“While I think this category is very likely to be
redundant considering I'm sure a majority of places that Zippy has visited is
already waymarked, I think this is a far more creative category than most of
the other stuff that the waymarks will get categorized under. So because of
this and this alone, I give it a yea. Thank you for something different=) “
I agree that there
will be redundancy. Especially with the
roadside attractions cat. But it is a unique approach to those locations. I appreciate your comments and thank you for
the thank you.
“Typo-mismatched quotes: 'titled ""Still asking,
Are we having fun yet?" given' I don't think you should bold all the
instructions for placing and everything below that. Otherwise, this is pretty
cool! “
Thanks for pointing
the typo out. I bolded the instructions
for those waymarkers who try to submit without reading. I figured that if they read anything it would
be the bolded text. Any arguments against this reasoning other than a style
preference?
Again the comments
are appreciated.
“I am voting YEA not for what it is, but what it could be.
Some of the archives state they are based in a specific town, but the strip
itself is generic in nature. You will need to create instructions to
specifically exclude these generic "tip-of-the-hat" strips. I want a
specific site seen or mentioned in the strip (the roadside tour is a good
example) not a vague allusion in the archive's database. If this fails as a
category, I would recommend submitting this as a Photo Goals waymark. For the
record, I do not like Zippy.”
You bring up a good
point about the zippy archives. I will note in the category that it cannot be a
generic location the strip must detail a specific item. In my research for the
category I found that most of the time when a generic location is mentioned
when you look up the strip it is for a specific icon in that city. So if you use the database archive and find a
location near you that says only Portland Oregon for example. When you look up
the strip it is for the Lumberjack in North Portland or the Huge spinning loaf
of bread sign on a bakery there etc. not just Portland in general.
Pssst, I do not really like Zippy either. I do like interesting waymark
categories and thought this would make one. I do like him more today than I did
last month though.
“Very unique and nicely written. The link to the transcript is broken though.
I'll have to go get the Drayton Plains, MI, one.”
Thank much and I will
try to get that link fixed.
“Love it!”
“Good luck! –“
“Looks interesting. “
“I was not so sure, but it looks like fun. “
Thanks one and all.

“1. Prevalence: too few 2. Global: NOT 3. Way too complicated in the
requirements. This category would die from lack of sites, and lack of
participation. It would appeal to only a few people who share your specialized
interest in this rather obscure topic.”
“Limited in Global. Looks like less than a couple of
locations per state (outside of CA) is not going to a long-term sustainable
category. Nay.”
“Global “
“-- Obscure, esoteric, NOT PREVALENT -- Limited
geographically, NOT GLOBAL -- And, although not in the official criteria, the
requirements you've laid out for this category are so complicated and involved,
I, and probably many others, would never try posting a waymark here. Really,
this category has very limited appeal, and so would not be very successful.”
“Obscure with too few to support a category. Requirements
too complicated and involved. Not global.”
“Do enough people even know about this cartoon to make the
category available to enough people?”
“Limited locations.”
I’ll reply to all of
these deny comment together since they are all
similar.
Prevalence and Global
issue: There are several hundred worldwide available for this category. Many
more locations and much more global than many/most of the categories in the grid. I tried to express how global it
was with the links and the description.
Yes, this is obscure.
That is what makes it a great category since it is very location based. It is
not limited geographically in any sense and truly is global. I wonder if some of you bothered to take the
time to try and understand its scope before you made the comments? Those who like a small challenge will enjoy
this category. I feel it will be a very
successful category and look forward to
seeing the submissions.
“The involvement is so narrow it is hard to even describe.
You have to have the comic book, then locate the imaginary carryings on? No. “
No, you do not need
to own any book. I provide many resources
and helps on the category page to assist with locating appropriate locations.
The imaginary goings on happen in real places that are drawn in great detail
making them easy to identify. When/if
you take the time to take a look at the locations available you may see that
this is not nearly as narrow as you believe.
“Maybe I'm missing the "something special" aspect
about Zippy, but I feel this could lead to a dozen other categories based on
locations where comic strips have taken place, which I would not be in favor
of. I've never heard of Zippy either.”
The something special
isn’t Zippy. It is the fact that the creator of Zippy takes the time to depict
real locations in the real world in his art. The art is considered to be the
most detailed of all comic strip art currently being created. This makes the
locations very identifiable.
I also may not
(depending on the proposal) like a dozen other categories based on comics. This
comic is unique in that there are databases that verify where these real world
locations are and they are also easily
identifiable in the strip itself.
“nay “
“nope “
“no way “
Yeh, Yep, Yes Way
Thank you all for
taking the time to share your insights into how this category could be better
or why it shouldn’t be a category at all. I appreciate you taking time to vote.
