    E-mails from Africa - a way out

Is it only those of use that have elected to show our email in our profiles that get the SPAM offering us our lottery winnings or looking for compensated help for facilitating large cash transfers.

Perhaps Groundspeak could modiy our emails to show the leading text and the server by changing my email to display as

    kevanswildwood at gmail dot com

It might stop a bit of phishing that happens out there.

When I stopped showing mine, the SPAM from Groundspeak accounts stopped. I can't tell if I've gotten SPAM based on my email having been visible for a long time and gmail does a great job of protecting me from the SPAM monsters. Speaking of monsters, the worst I've ever been SPAMmed has been from signing up on Monster.com.

I get probibly about 10 emails a day offiering to send me my winnings, of one sort or another.

I got the biggest upsurge by posting on craigs list.

On groundspeak, try logging out, and then see how many email addresses you can see. It appears to me that you can't get to the profile screen that shows your email unless you are logged into waymarking.com. I would think that might minimize some of the spam email address gathering spiders.

My e-mail address doesn't show, and I can't tell that any of my SPAM is Groundspeak related.

I find Gmail does a great job of sorting things out for me as well.

    Worst spam sites, imo:
    1) Monster
    2) CareerBuilder
    3) craigslist (until you delete the post)

Personally, I've only had one spam message (that I'm aware of) from Groundspeak, so I'm not concerned about spam coming from any groundspeak site.

Mine isn't shown either, but I noticed that the same people seem to get spam where I am on someone else's mailing list that has been milked for addresses.
--You don't have to be 'visible' to get those e-mails as long as you are in another Waymarker/Geoachers address book. Crying
