I've Been Working On The Railroad Group

Hello I've created a new group and in need of officers.

    description/mission statement:
A group for railroad maintenance of way "MOW" equipment on display. To create a category for equipment that maintained the rails for the safety of its passengers and employees. Speeders aka.(Putt-Putts), track inspection cars, ballast cars etc.

No engines, cabooses, passenger/baggage/dinner/sleeper cars. See these separate categories.

(unless they were used or modified exclusively for rail maintenance or crew)

You can join here if interested.

Re: I've Been Working On The Railroad Group

How's about a category that includes all railroad parts on display?

I found these things not too long ago:

Re: I've Been Working On The Railroad Group

Hmmm what is it you have there and are they actually on display or remains of what used to be there? It almost appears to be some type of generator or motor.

I have thought some too about different railroad equipment. I know of a restored depot in Alabama that has several types of signals on display outside. I don't believe they have any markers or signs telling what type or how old they are. I'm not sure if they should be included in this category or not. It has not been created so if there is interest in including all MOW equipment and operational equipment it might be possible.

Thanks for joining BeanTeam! What is your take on the matter?
Everyone is welcome to chime in and give their thoughts.

I'm still in need of a third officer. I'm only going to have the three minimum for now till we get the category up and running. Then we can add more officers.  It's just a lot easier that way.
    Thanks all! Big Smile

Your welcome. I am a sucker for the rail related cats.

I think a category for rail related equipment on display would be fine to pursue but not include in this category proposal. MOW equipment is specific and different enough to sustain its own category. The MOW equipment would be lost in the midst of signals etc. that would be submitted in a larger category.

The difference in my mind is MOW equipment  moved on the rails while the other items were static.

My main concern is prevalence.  These are not nearly as common as locomotives and cabooses.  Do you see these outside of railroad museums?  Don't get me wrong, I love railroad museums, but other waymarkers may not like the fact that you have to visit a museum to find one.

I think they are more prevalent than we realize. I have a feeling most people just don't know what they are looking at and move on by.

Here are a few examples of MOW equipment on display in Dunsmuir CA.

    Snow Plow

    Speeder and trailer

However y'all decide to do it, I think it will be good! I'll be looking for it in Peer Review! :)

I believe the category will only be for MOW related equipment, that which actually maintained the rails. Signals and what you have there (still not sure what) were stationary. Perhaps a separate railroad operations category could be created for these. Signals, baggage carts, scales etc. Objects used in the daily service of the railroad.

If you were interested in getting a separate category for them, I'd be glad to help. Big Smile

LOL!!!  I'm going through the photos from a waymarking and geocaching trip I took through southwest Wisconsin last October trying to catch up on posting the waymarks from it and discovered I have a photo of a speeder!  It was in the yard next to a locomotive.  I didn't realize what it was at the time - I guess I thought it was a toy train or something.

Let's get this category going - I have a waymark to post!
